Rurouni Kenshin: Meiji Swordsman Romantic Story (2012)

The premise is largely the same, as are the main characters. Expect a lot of mixing of different arcs though as the characters don't all stay in their previously assigned roles. For example, Jim is now the "fake" Battousai and works for Takeda with a few fighters you might recognize from the Onniwaban Group as well as a couple of others that didn't belong anywhere hear that arc. Megumi is still a doctor who gets caught up in the opium trade and Kenshin saves. Zanza is still rather brash and loud, though he doesn't go after Kenshin as much it seems as he did in the anime. Kaoru and Kenshin appear to be the least changed of all the characters, being very true to their original roles and convictions. Not always a fan of the live action versions of different series as sometimes they come off just wrong. This one is pretty decent as far as they go.

Rock of Ages

As my husband put it "it's like a very long Glee episode" just with more music and a better flowing story - if you can find much story beyond the music. It's there, just not the most prominent part of the film, despite protesters  "life lessons," and several other things that get blatantly pulled to the surface. Overall, a good mix of film and musical, especially given they chose rock as the theme throughout - not the easiest with all ranges of emotion. Well done and well performed.

While I typically am not a fan of the invisible wire old-film style martial arts that this employed, the film did successfully draw and keep my attention - a very rare thing for this style of fighting feature. Jason, the young American who gets drawn into ancient China, has to learn kung fu precepts in order to return a fabled weapon to the imprisoned Monkey King and stop the Jade Warlord. Interesting that his very adventure is what results in his "uncle's" immortality. Also glad to see Sparrow at the end of the film - had a feeling about that after the line about immortality. An interesting twist that made the film far more enjoyable, despite still not really caring for this form of martial arts.

This was my husband's pick after I asked to turn of Zombieland as I was not in the mood for flesh eating creatures dreams. Can't say it was much better. While there was no blood and gore factor, there was a lot of sexual advancement, very inappropriate jokes, and more than a few odd scenes that made you wonder if the producers were high at the time of writing the script, let alone filming. In all honesty, this was so poorly done and in such bad taste that I again asked to change it to another movie and we didn't finish the film. That is bad.

Up

This was the first Disney film I had seen in awhile when we got married. Not having been overly impressed with the series of quick release and poorly done sequels they had been doing at the time, I wasn't sure what to think of this new film, more along the lines of Pixar animation. We were both pleasantly surprised and found the film very enjoyable. Unlike several animated films these days, it stays true to the family film ideas that Disney is known for. This is one newer movie I look forward to watching with our little girl.

The Fall

This is a very strange movie. The story itself is actually a tale that injured stuntman a little girl with a broken arm conjure up while in the hospital together. Imaginations run wild and the story takes a turn for the worst towards the end. Not particularly a happy tale or anything that relatively easy to follow.

Danny

An older horse film, this is about the gelding Danny and little girl, Janie, who falls in love with him. Janie isn't one of the rich kids in town and doesn't seem to fit in. Not that she cares as she'd much rather spend her time at the barn learning from Pat. When the local rich girl, Andrea, decides Danny isn't worth her time or attention, Janie begs to keep Danny as her own. A little help from some unknown source, and not only does she bring Danny back to health when he goes lame, but she goes on to win first place in the Children's Hunt at the local competition against Andrea with her perfectly pedigreed mare that replaced Danny. Not overly exciting, but a touching and realistic tale for any horse lover.

Zohan was a special agent for Isreal who only wanted to cut and style hair. He didn't expect to also find love when he moved to America in pursuit of his dream. More than a little suggestive, this has a mix of very off the wall humor and bad accents throughout. Mindless entertainment that is certainly not everyone's cup of tea.

Coraline

This was a rather creepy movie overall. Couldn't remember why I didn't want to see it when it came out in theaters. Now I remember. The "Other Mother" sees the real world through the eyes of her dolls, pulling people into her world and turning them into dolls themselves by sewing buttons over their eyes. She nearly gets Coraline with her charm and games until she realizes the missing girls are all trapped there along with her real parents. With the help of an unlikely talking cat (about the only interesting character in the film) and an un-believing neighbor, she has to find her parents, free the souls of the missing girls (including the sister of her apartment's owner), and get back to the real world before the Other Mother can trap her too. Creepier still, you just think the game is won when it turns out the Other Mother could potentially enter the real world too. Definitely would not be fun and games in my book.

Knight & Day

It seems to be our timing for Mission Impossible films. Surprising how Roy continues to go back to June, despite her supposedly slowing him down and being a liability he's just "using" according to the other networks that are after him. Even more surprising is June's decision to dig into Roy's life a little more and taking it upon herself to see his mission ends successfully. Overall, not really sure what to think about this duo, though I did find the constant references to her out of place boots to be hilarious - that would be me, too.

This one took me a long time to read. I am quickly learning that reading on baby schedule while trying to work as much as possible during the week does not work very well, especially when sleep often takes priority in those few downtime moments that aren't with the family or the office.

While this Nikki Heat story is good, it seems to pale in comparison to the chase for Beckett's old case in the corresponding TV series, Castle. It also ends on another cliff hanger as they find her mother's killer, but are left with Homeland Security and the killer's warning that he was working for someone else and something very big, and very bad, is coming to town. While at least two more characters are known in the current criminal ring, they don't appear to have any hope of catching the perpetrators and certainly don't seem to have any answers to the bigger questions. Captain Irons is as annoying as ever, and his girlfriend's actions leave a reader wondering if maybe she was in on the take too, just like the old lead of the case who ended up dying for trying to warn Heat. Overall, this book seemed to bring more questions than answers and didn't do a whole lot in the relationship department either. Bit of a let down overall as far as the case files go.

Based on the book by Dr. Seuss, this is a short film feature Horton the elephant and how he discovers Whoville. The disc also contains a couple of other shorts, only one of which features Horton in his adventure with Maizy's egg. The special features on the disc highlight several other tales, including The Cat in the Hat, Sneetches, Green Eggs & Ham, and some of Dr. Seuss' early political cartoons during World War II. Supposedly this disc is one that Mercy picked out herself while shopping with Nana Waldo (aka they showed her the movies and she grabbed it off the shelf), so we watched it today to see what she thought of it. It certainly had her attention, though I'm sure it will be a bit longer before she really understands any of it. Still, a cute piece to add to her collection, especially since we do have a couple of Dr. Seuss books already and hope to get more.

Sneakers

This film had an old school Mission Impossible feel to it. Starts off introducing an odd group of men that are paid to steal things from companies in order to prove how well their security system does or does not work. Turns out they have a few troubles with the law of their own and end up in even more hot water when they take a job for the government that turns out to be fake. More than amusing how they turn it back to their favor at the end of the film. Can't help but be glad that this odd group manages to land on their feet.

This is a cute book that I've known from the start I wanted for Mercy. She's still a little young to understand reading, but we're still trying to make it a regular activity so hopefully she'll grow up enjoying it and looking forward to story time. This was her main stocking gift this year for Christmas.

A cute little tale of two rabbits. The baby (or "little") hare keeps trying to think of ideas to measure how much he loves big hare. Of course big hare, being older and much bigger, can out distance everything that little hare can think of. Just as little hare falls asleep, he thinks he's come up with the perfect measurement for his love - only to miss when big hare comes back with the adorable response that is double his previous measurement. A cute, simple children's book with a lovely meaning that's adorable to read to your children.

Trinity Blood

This is an interesting twist on a futuristic war between humans and vampires. The Vatican uses allies to keep things under control. Interestingly enough, their main character in the forefront of the battle is the priest Peter Abel Nightroad, who it turns out is a crusnik (a vampire who feeds on other vampires). That's an odd twist on itself that is confusing all on it's own before you try to make heads or tales of the Vatican itself and how the war is actually progressing. Overall a rather confusing series that left me feeling it was incomplete and lacked something in the overall story line.

First played this game last year with my in-laws. We found the game to be hilarious and lots of fun for everyone. You couldn't help but be drawn in - especially when all you had were crazy answers that made no sense to the question and somehow had to try and sell them. Definitely want this one for our family!

We see the Book of Dragons in the original film, How To Train Your Dragon, as Hiccup is looking for information about the Night Fury. This short film is basically going through the book by dragon "class" and showing their different attributes. Many of the dragons shown are not seen in the movie however. Some have been shown in previous short films or the TV series, Dragon Riders of Berk, but there were a few that I didn't recognize as being additions from either of those medias. New dragons for the next film or possible series continuation? It left it rather open ended with statements that apparently they were finding new dragons still and it was up to the trainers to add new information about discoveries and dragon personalities as they worked with their chosen dragons. Interesting information, but not a lot of new material as far as characters or plot goes.

The story told here is beyond ridiculous  though it apparently does have some base in truth as the legend is proved to be real. Not much is seen or mentioned of the other dragons as this is purely about the Boneknapper. The dragon riders don't even take their own dragons to go looking for the mythical beast - instead rowing on an old Viking boat as they used to before dragon days. An interesting new dragon added to the mix; hopefully will be included in the next movie as well.

I still love Toothless - he totally makes this series for me. This is a cute little short film that was aired last night during Fox holiday specials. Apparently original released in a separate DVD package back in 2011, I'm surprised I hadn't yet heard of it as it is beyond adorable. Hiccup thought he had the perfect idea for a gift to his dragon. While Toothless certainly made surprisingly good use out of it, he had better ideas for their holiday. Talk about an intelligent dragon - he's got this Christmas thing down pat.

Having never finished the book completely, I couldn't vouch for how accurate it is in this regard, though my father-in-law said that other than adding a few small things it was spot on. Apparently there are some parts that you read about in the later books that take place during The Hobbit, readers just don't know it until further down the line. These bits have been incorporated into the film to fit the correct sequence of events. I have, however, seen the animated version of the film as it is a childhood favorite of my husband's and a friend of mine in college. Definitely prefer this film, and really like how they kept things consistent with the already released Lord of the Rings films. The music is beautiful and the scenery is stunning. There are slight differences in some scenes, like the slow motion effects when Bilbo uses the ring, that make it apparent some things we know are coming have not yet taken effect (the wraiths tracking the ring and Dark Lord not yet following it either, so none of the wraith screeching or encroaching blackness when in use). Subtle differences, but very fitting and tell a story of their own if you pay attention to them. Definitely a great addition to an already amazing series. Too bad we have to wait so long for the next installment.

Really wasn't sure how they were going to play this, especially since 3/4 of the book was already covered in part one. Interesting idea how they played out the fight scene then revealed it to just be one of Alice's visions. The assortment of vampires that were brought in were interesting; even recognized one of them as having played a part in 24. Kristen does a much better job playing vampire Bella than she did as a human Bella. Of course Jacob as a wolf is as amazing as ever. Overall, a decent end to the series. Wasn't really sure how it would go with Renesme - CG baby apparently was the answer. Interesting trick.

It doesn't matter which edition of this show is on, be it Home Edition, Holiday Edition, or whatever they want to call it at the time. It doesn't air regularly any more, but it's always good when it does. They do amazing things with these homes and for these families, often previously facing such horrible circumstances or health issues with special needs. It's amazing to see how the community comes together and wonderful things they design and build for these people in need. A touching show through and through.

Ended up watching this more to have some background noise when the baby refused to go to bed after a later-than-normal nap. It was an interesting series, especially as I can clearly recall watching shows like E.R. with my mother as a child. More doctor based than my current medical shows like Bones or Body of Proof, it gets the trouble factor from mob connections and botched theft jobs while dodging the red tape of the hospital's paperwork and legal inquiries. Looked like it had potential, but not really interested in picking up another series actively right now.

Not one that I follow regularly any more, but still an enjoyable show. Loving dance, it's interesting to see what the competitors come up with each round and how well they perform. Sometimes the costumes alone seem to be worth it as they can really be out there. The judges have their own form of amusement as they critique and score the dances - some of them really get into the dancing!

Serenity

Based on the TV series Firefly, this takes place after the series trying to wrap up many of the loose ends. In all honestly, I was convinced they were all going to die by the end of the film, especially as they braved the Reever fleet not once, but twice and intentionally goaded them to follow the ship. Despite her psychic abilities, being grabbed from behind, not to mention the sheer overwhelming numbers, should have meant River's end. By some miracle she saves the day, the truth of the Reevers comes to light (not something I ever expected to be the core of this movie when I heard about it), and the assassin who chased them across the galaxy ends up no longer on the side of the Alliance, though I don't think you can really say he's on the side of Serenity's crew either. Somewhat surprised I didn't have nightmares about these creatures as they are beyond horrifying on an entirely different level than most films (I'm thinking Dawn of the Dead or Resident Evil). Still, definitely sufficiently high on the creepy scale.

The first time I started watching this, it felt too much like a rerun of the original series and I just couldn't get into it. This time I stuck with it, and while a lot of similarities are still present, I also found a lot of changes as it got further along. Not sure that I completely understand why they re-launched the series other than trying to keep bringing in more capital and adding in newer details from the manga that previously got cut out as the series was ended, so it that sense it still miffs me a bit. Ignoring that though, it is still very familiar and enjoyable, so it's worth watching if you really like the series.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Done in a very old school fashion, there are a few problems with this officially being a prequel to the TV series. Firstly, the watcher is killed during the movie, yet he's the school librarian in the TV series. Secondly, the master is also killed during the movie, then is sealed in Hell and rises to be killed again in the first season of the TV series. That doesn't even cover the dramatic wardrobe and attitude change between the characters or whatever happened to Pike. It does certainly answer some questions as to her "trouble" at her previous school before moving to the area where the series takes place, as well as her comments about how she used to be popular, but other than that I just don't see it fitting the timeline. On the other hand, for the time period in which it was filmed, it was pointed out to me that it was actually remarkably well done. Sort of makes me think Grease meets the Buffy TV series as far as how the movie turned out.

Angel

Featuring Angel and Cordelia from the original Buffy the Vampire Slayer, this features the two characters not living the lives they expected to as they end up helping each other and those around them. Surprise, surprise. After my comment about Angel in Buffy looking like Selee Booth from Bones in the previous entry, I looked up the entry. Turns out it is in fact the same actor for both parts. Kind of weird given the similarities in mannerisms and dress. I keep looking at Angel as a young Booth and having to remind myself he's also a teenage vampire in this series, not an FBI agent - weird. I will admit, despite that I haven't completed either series yet, I do seem to prefer the Angel/Buffy dynamic, so I'm kind of missing that in this new series, despite there being several flash back or references to things happening in the original series.

Is it just me, or does Angel look like a young Selee Booth from Bones? Interesting that despite the title spelling, the book that is often flashed upon during the opening and the series itself uses the spelling "vampyr," which I've never seen without the e at the end until now. Said vampires have a rather interesting look, which may lend to how the upgraded station now portrays them in The Vampire Diaries. Instead of just having the eyes and veins changing like in the new series, this series changes the entire face to take on almost a white bat and mas-like appearance. More than a little creepy and understandably disturbing. I have vague memories of seeing a few scattered episodes as a teenager, but it wasn't a series I followed at the time despite many recommendations both back then and still now. Figure if you're still getting references and recommendations for a series after this long, it's worth at least checking it out.

Firefly

I don't really remember why, but I do remember that I had some reason why I didn't want to watch the series when it first aired. Thanks to an evening when hubby and I both needed to stay up to get work done after the baby went to bed, we were searching Hulu for some background noise to help make the time passing a little easier on us. Not finding anything new up for any of the series we do follow, we opted to turn on Firefly. It started mid-first season, but quickly proved it could be very entertaining and right up my alley between both the science-fiction element and the western portion. Now I'm wonder exactly why it was I didn't want to watch this series before as I entirely expect to enjoy the rest of the series now that we're watching it. Makes it a little disappointing to know the series has already been cancelled.

007 23: Skyfall

As Bond movies go, it's fairly typical, though this time the main woman in the film is 007's boss, M, rather than his recent lady conquest. Fairly typical of Bond, he faces impossible odds, barely seems to even bat an eyelash, and gets the job done. My husband made the reference at one point during the early part of the film that it was "very 24-esque." Sometimes the lack of emotion and reaction bothers me, though on the other hand it plays well to Bond's profession. Overall an enjoyable film added to the collection of very long James Bond/007 movies.

Another new find via Hulu - this time ideas for bathroom remodeling. Makes me wish these guys would come remodel our house - their projects always turn out looking so great and are done so quickly. Of course we probably couldn't afford them anyways, but wishful thinking doesn't hurt anyone and in the meantime the show might give us some more great ideas.

Arrow

Based on the comic series, this is a highly entertaining series that brings something new each week. Can't say I was a fan of the original as I didn't know besides the title prior to this show. I do know that I look forward to each new episode however and we watch as many of them together as a family that we can. A good start for a new spin-off. Hopefully it just keeps getting better.

The project are often daunting to downright disgusting, yet the end results are beautiful, and a lot of the work can be done on your own without hiring a contractor. Wonderful way to get ideas for your own home and what you do or don't like without making a lot of costly mistakes by yourself.

This is a fascinating show we found on Hulu that lists a lot of the top home makeover projects where you can save money by doing the work yourself and raise the value of your home above the cost of the makeover. Good information and place for ideas for any home owner. Especially of interest to us as we have several projects on our list of decorating and remodeling that we'd like to do at some point.

I love Green's books, and this one wasn't any different. It's been awhile since I read her last book from this series, but this recent installation didn't disappoint, drawing me right back in and refreshing the characters easily. Makes a lot more sense why Drake made people's skin crawl and grew more bad will despite his supposed "good intentions" by the end of this book. Especially didn't like the insinuations with how powerful he was that he was also the reason why Luke was called off so close to their wedding - good thing they pushed up the time rather than letting him leave and reschedule. Hate to think what Drake might have done on top of his current schemes in that situation. Good for Kennedy sticking to her morals - I like her and Luke more and more with each book. Not as much with Kate and Mark, the original favorites from Haggerty, but Miss Eugenia still has a leading roll. Also struck by the awkward situation with HannaLeigh at the end of the book - could she get any farther off track? Oh well. At least Cade isn't as much of a concern.

This has got to be one of the strangest anime I have ever seen. Ended up finding it by random play on Hulu when Matt was playing around online. Sort of felt like I was watching a warped train wreck the entire time. Part of me wonders if the series ever might get better, but it just keeps getting even more strange (if that was possible). Now I just can't seem to fathom why it's still playing...

This is a cute series and a good way to get familiar with a lot of different Clamp series as many different characters and series come into play as they main group travels across different worlds. Definitely one to pay attention during however, or it's easy to get confused between the same faces, different worlds, and constantly twisting story line. Still, the characters retain their original charm despite their different circumstances. Anyone who enjoys Clamp stories will want this in their collection.

Despite being a movie, this feels more like just a longer episode from the TV series. The art differs slightly, but is overall consistent with the characters feel and creation as it's been through the rest of the production. The Birdcage Kingdom is as strange as any other place that they end up, being an odd melding of different worlds and characters as they often run across faces they already know in different personas across the worlds. Despite growing in confidence in the other OVAs, Sakura plays a very minor background role in this film despite the fact that it's still her feather that is at the core of yet another mess. This series has no shortage of twists and turns, so it's best to pay attention if you don't want to end up rather confused.

These two come together on a single disc as an OVA for the popular Clamp series. A couple of twists bring out the second Syaoran change both him and Fai irrevocably, and bring out another side of Sakura that we haven't seen before. Though short, these two pieces give a lot of answers that appeared to be missing in the earlier series. Overall these fit well and don't seem to leave as many holes in the story line as many other OVAs seem to do.

Walking Tall

Returning home from the service, our lead character lands himself in trouble pretty quickly with his extensive training and quick temper. Proving he's just as slick in a very beating you over the head with his own mentality sort of way, he gets off free of charge for the trouble and continues causing mayhem as he tries to re-teach the people to "walk tall" - a standard that bites him back a few times through the course of the movie. Not the best acting, but decently entertaining.

While You Were Sleeping

I have fond memories of my mother and I watching this when I was younger. It is a rather twisted yet cute love story as a girl first crushes on one brother, than falls in love with the other while he's in a coma after she's saved his life - a large part of why his family accepts her as one of their own while he's sleeping. In the end, it appears to work out for the best as the family sorts things out, though I can't help but wonder what happened to the first brother as he's barely mentioned in passing after the shotgun wedding is called to a halt.

For a short film, this is entertaining and certainly stays true to the original series. However, this also means that it is highly confusing at some points and doesn't really leave you with a feeling of finality or completion at the end. Some of the hallways in the mansion are beyond ridiculous, just as the circumstances for their "party" there and the games the collector plays are both creepy and bizarre. At Watanuki hasn't lost any of his flamboyancy as he objects quiet strenuously to their predicament.

I actually enjoyed this the most of the books in this series so far, despite the fact that it's also taken the longest for me to finish it of any of the books - the result of running on baby time, working, and being called out of town for a funeral all throwing wrenches in reading time. Matthias is very similar to Heron on the surface, but underneath he seems to have a much faster reflex when it comes to figuring things out and making decisions - something which Heron is starting to drive me a little crazy with. His latest decision concerning the flags and Sissy is not exactly earning him bonus points, though I notice the outcome of that wager has been left off for the next book. Mel makes a good contrast for Matthias, so their ending is a nice touch, though I wonder if Matthias will make future appearances as the war continues. Dog's revelation makes a lot of sense with how aware and responsive he's been from day one. Some amusement to Heron's discomfort over that little scene. Overall a better, more cohesive story it seemed. Will have to wait for the next book to see if the series keeps improving for me or drops back down again.

Admittedly I have watched the anime a couple of times at this point where I can't recall ever actually finishing the manga. As with most Clamp series, the art is more angular than many others and the anime takes an interesting turn with it's interpretation. Watanuki especially often seems almost rubber-like as he goes in full wiggling panic mode often. If you like series that are a bit more mysterious and random, you'll like xxxHolic as it deals largely with the supernatural. Yuuko is especially good at talking in riddles, answering one question while raising a dozen more.

Despite being part of the original Superman series, there are definite inconsistencies in the story - like Lois no longer remembering that Clark is Superman. That doesn't even touch on the main villain being "made" using nuclear energy and the fact that somehow Lois survives outer space without any protection - an impossibility for any normal human. Of course it's not a Superman movie without Lex Luther causing a fuss and being caught in the end. Once again, the green screen is very obvious, though it is to be expected with older films. Still, it's part of the collection for any fan to enjoy.

Superman III

Superman III (1983)

Computers enter the scene as a greedy employee starts writing code to siphon off funds to himself from his employers, bringing him to the attention of one of some bigger fish in the sea. His computer program ends up causing some problems towards the end of the film, but of course the hero always has to come out on top. This movie also brought in Lana Lang, would-be crush of Clark's childhood prior to Louis Lane. About the biggest action is the fire when Jimmy breaks his leg and the rest is created more along the lines of a cosmic joke. Not the best for the series.

Superman II

Three other Kryptonians appear to have survived the destruction of their planet, and they give Superman a run for his money when it comes to defending it - something which couldn't have come at a worse time as Lois learns his secret and he tries to give up his power to be with her. Awkward, slow, and graphically not anywhere near the level of special effects as the newer films, this is also dated rather heavily while still being enjoyable to any real Superman fan.

The first of the big Superman films, it is definitely dated by it's era by filming style, clothing, and special effects. Technology has made many of these things appear seamless in recent films, but the green screens definitely stand out in these films. The "alien" costumes are sort of like modified chemical suits, which isn't exactly a rousing endorsement. Regardless, if you like the old Superman comics, or just even Superman in general, it's worth watching the old films and seeing how the series develops.

Kimi ni Todoke

Kimi ni Todoke (2009)

This is a cute series that tells the story of a rather socially awkward girl as she learns to be accepted and identify her different feelings. The art is pretty, but at random scenes will turn to awkward squished chibi-like characters that sort of throw it off as far as continuity goes. The base-line of the story is the romantic development between the previous outcast and the class good boy who is friends with everyone. Somehow these two seem to connect despite rivals and the girl's own emotional and maturity challenges.

Superman: The Animated Series

I can remember very well seeing this series on TV after coming home from school along with Batman, X-Men and The Disney Afternoon. They were my favorites as a child and are still entertaining to watch as the series are very much still alive - proven by the number of times the series has been redone and still does well in the box office as people flock to see the newest addition. Must admit to be glad we have this in our collecting in case Mercy loves the comics as much as we did growing up.

Dragons

Dragons (2012)

I adore How To Train Your Dragon, so it's little surprise that I was thrilled to find this new series. Hiccup is back with Toothless and friends as they go through daily adventures and complications in a Viking's life on Berk. Toothless is as lovable as always, and still reminds me of my cat, Midnight. The other boys are still comedic filler as they otherwise can only really be classified as "losers." Astrid is still the glue that keeps it all together and does amazingly well with her dragon, second only to Hiccup who now runs the Dragon Academy. New dragons are introduced and it is too hilarious to see Stoick, Hiccup's stern and brute force father all excited to be riding a dragon - felt bad for Toothless for awhile there. No new episodes in awhile, but I hope the series keeps going. It's adorable and a lot of fun.

Note: Each season is titled slightly differently, though all share the "Dragons" origin.

Oliver & Company

Oliver & Company (1988)

Not my favorite Disney movies as far as story line goes, but it does have some cute catching tunes mixed in and it is about a lone little kitten in the big city surrounded by dogs. With very little of the overall human aspect of the film, any animal lover is bound to enjoy this film on some level, which also makes it a great pick for kids. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if Mercy ends up loving this one some time down the road.

Inuyasha

Inuyasha (2000)

While I know I had seen random episodes of other anime previously on TV, this is the first show that I recall following the manga and anime actively, collecting all the DVDs. While the anime does still have plenty of filler and includes characters who don't exist in the original manga, it is still enjoyable and amusing. It seems to almost be the staple story line for alternate universe type series. Being my first real fandom, I doubt I'll ever completely loose my love and enjoyment for this series.

Little Wyoming

This book was a gift from my mother-in-law. Fitting as her side of the family is from Wyoming. This last week, she and my husband were there to visit his grandmother. While he was gone, I'd read this to Mercy and tell her that was where daddy was. Some day we'll go see it for real, but until then this is a cute little book to bring part of my husband's family history into our home as we teach her to read.

This is a cute show mostly geared towards children. The main character, Sakura, must learn to control her families power, find all the Clow Cards she accidentally released before they cause too much mayhem all over the city, and decide who it is that she really loves (Yukito, Eriol, and Sayoran all take turns as torn interests). With Kero and Tomoyo always with her, she's constantly in a plethora of cute costumes as they film each new adventure. Had vague memories of a few episodes back when I was in junior high and high school, flipping through TV channels while eating a snack. Never really got around to watching the full series until college after seeing the two movies.

Blue Seed Beyond

While I do think the art is better in this short sequel, the characters are lacking their original charm. Momiji does little but whine and end up in trouble despite attempts to be useful as she's majorly insecure in her relationship with Kusanagi. Kusanagi himself is very withdrawn and unsure of himself, very contrary to his original brass. Valencia is a new addition to the team. Artificially implanted with a mitama in the same method these man-made origami were, she identifies very quickly with Kusanagi. Between that and her rather racy wardrobe, it's little wonder Momiji sees her as competition, quickly acting like she's lost the fight before it ever began. There is also a lack of continuity in the series as it was established 8 mitamas were needed to achieve flight in the original series, yet Valencia manages it with her one red mitama. The man-made origami are also thought to be stronger than the original, sporting red mitamas despite them being imports from Japan. So what has science done in order to achieve this artificial implant that changes it's color and power? We never know.

Mencheres wouldn't be my first pick for a romantic lead in this series, but Kira is a great contrast to him that makes the story more interesting, especially as she not only turns his world upside down, but also digs into his past more than we've ever glimpsed previously. Radje does an excellent job playing the villain as it seems his end can't come soon enough. This story also answers how Bones and Cat already know Veritas on good terms when it comes to the ghoul war. They certainly weren't on good terms after Cat barely managed to dodge a death sentence herself earlier in the series. Can't help but wonder if Ian or Vlad are next the way they're pairing off all the older main male vampires in the series.

This series has some rather strange humor and odd relationships overall. Makes for a very different series than most common anime tend to be. Momiji is a childish klutz that you can't help but feel for. Kusanagi is the hero that's always trying to be a bad guy. The rest of the team each has their odd quirks and situations to throw into the mix. Sometimes it gets a little repetitive  especially once Kaede comes back into the picture and Kusanagi starts acting like a love-sick puppy over her. Still, it's a nice change of pace from all the samurai films especially.

Oddly I enjoyed this book more than the last few books of the main series. It was nice to get some deeper looks at Denise and Spade, and especially to fill in the blanks about their blooming relationship and Denise's species adjustments that are mentioned in the other books. Interesting that Denise seemed to suddenly get over her PTSD so quickly. Other than that, a lot of similarities between her story and Spade's, which is suggested to be why they accept their situation and fall together so quickly despite all the reasons they should be running for opposite hills. Overall, fast paced and enjoyable while still including all the main characters and giving a different focus with more development.

Again, not much in the way of overall development. Tate is demoted, Madden (his replacement), is an over controlling idiot who does nothing but mess things up. Don seems to have accepted being a ghost, or at least doesn't seem to have time to worry about it while trying to figure out what Madden is up to stepping into his old role while withholding information from Cat and Bones... again. You would think he would have learned by now that it was a bad idea, though now that he's a ghost they can't just read it from his mind either. Figured out long before it was revealed in the book that Cat was the last target - a little slow there? The whole fight against a ghost thing was rather overly dramatic and the theme (the Inquisitor constantly spouting nonsense from the witch hunts) is boring by the end as he sounds like a broken record. Very little in the realm of development with any of the relationships except for maybe Justina quitting the government team to leave with Cat - the most support she's shown for a long time since Cat threw in with the vampires indefinitely. Guess next up is tackling the Madden problem?

The New Adventures of Black Beauty

Small wonder I enjoy this series as I've always loved horses and have often enjoyed the full length films Black Beauty and The Black Stallion. Unlike the movie version however, this is the story of Black Beauty belonging to one family, dying, and being replaced by a new Black Beauty belonging to Victoria, the young girl shown on the picture of the DVD case. Not as good as the full length film, but still enjoyable, especially for anyone who loves horses or enjoys old-style films.

Angel Sanctuary

The first time I watched this shortly after High School, I found it highly fascinating. The artwork is reminiscent of many other series I've watched (Knight Hunters, Fushigi Yugi, Mirage of Blaze, etc). The story itself is rather complex and more than a little odd. The language is more course than most anime, and the confusion over the main pair being siblings or not is more than a little strange. They have a rather bloody way of awakening supposed angels or demons too, so I wouldn't advise watching this if you're younger and/or can't stand blood.

Released only in Japanese with English subtitles, this is the only disc for the series that I've been able to find. Disappointing as it leaves the series feeling incomplete and without a real focus overall. Cute artwork, but a confusing story line without completion doesn't rank very high overall.

I first got this because it was a favorite for my neighbor's little girl when I would babysit for them. Now I'm wondering if more of the series will be joining the collection as our own little girl grows. As Barbie films go, this was my favorite of the ones that were asked for at the time. Disney has done The Prince and the Pauper with Mickey Mouse, I guess it makes sense for another industry to take a new spin on it as well. The music is by far the most catching part of this film as the art is computer generated and definitely has that doll feel with how they move at times.

Cat wasn't odd enough absorbing power from vampire blood, now she can also borrow a ghoul's power. The twist with Don becoming a ghost was somewhat predictable as well. Either he'd be turned against his will like Justina, or being a ghost was the only alternative to keep him around. Majestic is as creepy as ever the way she knows things, controls the remnants, and just happens to be there at the right time to become queen over all the ghouls. Here's hoping her strange alliance with Cat continues or they'd be in a heap of trouble. Denise's abilities are also new. That story must be in one of the Night Huntress World books. Would make more sense to the story if they were chronological in the same series. I guess because they don't feature Cat and Bones they are considered a side series. Strange since many of the short stories in the series also don't focus on the main pair. Inconsistent at best.

So not only does it turn out Cat is already married to another vampire, thus supposedly nullifying her bond to Bones, but she also crosses over to officially become a vampire - unlike any other vampire ever heard of before. It makes sense once her differences are analyzed later on in the book, but it's still a strange twist. The fight against the dreamsnatcher to stay with Bones is also somewhat predictable and beyond volatile. Bones loses major points in this book along the way, though he does redeem himself somewhat when it's revealed to have been a ruse, not true action, to hopefully end the war. Makes it sort of sad that none of his grand schemes really ended up working after all. Cat seems to cop out at every corner, first blaming the pills for her erratic behavior and then acting like a child running away from Bones when he's trying his hardest to get back to her - which he then turns around and screws up himself. These two really need to get their act together - fast! Cat got off lucky in this book - in too many ways to count.

This short story feathers Elise, a vampire from Mechaneres' line, and Blake, a human possessed by a demon. Once again, the only time you see Bones or Cat is when they're sent to pick up Elise and Blake in the beginning of the story. Otherwise it's all about the developing relationship between these two and if Blake will have to die to stop the demon for good or if they find a way to save him so they can be together after all. A interesting short, as it does give some demon info that is otherwise lacking in the story, but otherwise doesn't add anything to the main line of development at all.

I remember watching this series on TV after school as a child. Makes it kind of fun having the DVDs now. Batman is a long-time favorite that keeps being re-made over and over. It will be interesting to see if my daughter takes an interest in the series as well - how many generations will watch this? The art isn't overly stunning, but it's a typical Batman series - the Dark Knight always wins. Of course you also get more team ups and a lot more opponents alone or together multiple times over as this series continues.

This series really needs to work on fluidity. They constantly hop between work missions, assassination attempts, and torturous interrogations. It's sometimes hard to remember where they're located at different points in the story as they keep hopping around. Realistically with vampire law and previous circumstances, Patra shouldn't have even been around to be a problem as she was in this book. Bones supposed death and new powers reviving him is also a little far stretched and overly dramatic. The parallel drawn between Cat and Vlad's wife is also stretched incredibly thin - jumping to avoid capture during war after your husband/king is dead and jumping just out grief are very different motivators. Tate is also still stretching the line way too much. Either they need to move him or get rid of him for good rather than just talking about it - rinse and repeat every time conflict arises on that front. Still do like Bones/Cat, but there needs to be a bit more fluidity and actual growth in these books before they'll be really great.

Bones finally catches up with Cat, now known as the Red Reaper among the vampires. It certainly doesn't help their situation that she's unexpectedly tangled herself with Bones' sire, Ian, who now wants her for himself. Didn't see the twist with her father coming and had actually forgotten the mention in the short story I read previously that Don was her uncle, so missed that as the hunt for the contractor continued. Cat seems to finally be coming around and getting things together, but still has a ways to go. It's amazing Bones has put up with her this long, though still can't help but admire his honesty and determination, especially considering what he is and what he faces to be with her. Very odd marriage ceremony stuck in there towards the end. It actually seemed for a moment that Cat was going to completely forget about it and walk away again to get her revenge; pleasantly surprised on that score. It will be interesting to see how that new dynamic adds to the emotional drama.

This books is interesting, but also somewhat disheartening as it pulls away from either of the main characters and instead focuses on Chance, one of Bone's old friends and a descendant of his line. The only time you see Bones is in the beginning when he says he's turning the job over to a friend of his because he's currently looking for someone (hopefully Cat), and at the end when he helps them escape the police raid. Cat is never seen or mentioned at all behind the allusion that Bones may be looking for her, and even that you'd only know if you'd read the first one to understand why he'd be searching for anyone in the first place. An interesting side-story, but it really did nothing to further the series at all. It's yet to be seen if either of these characters will tie into the main story further down the road as neither was mentioned in the first book.

The book was decent, but lacked a lot of information that felt like it should have been here. Bones is a fun character, but Cat feels half-formed like she doesn't really know what she's doing despite her bravado and strength. Their relationship takes very strange twists and turns that often seem unfathomable until you remember these two aren't human, so maybe that attributes to their very inhuman reaction to things. Overall they show a lot of potential for an interesting pair, but it appears a lot of things will have to be worked out before they can even get back together, let alone prove anything to anyone else. Doesn't help that Cat has painted such a nice little target on herself.

This is a prequel clip about Bones hunting two ghouls who are mass murderers in New Orleans. Prior to the time when he meets Cat, he becomes involved with Becca, who of course ends up being the murderer's final victim. Her final state before death that Bones finds her in is especially chilling. Overall not a lot of detail and certainly no huge connection as he only ended up with Becca because she had seen the killers and was more guilty for her fate than anything else. Hopefully the rest of the series will be more engaging.

I actually read this at the end of Gunmetal Magic. Part of me thinks that this should have been in the front of the book to be read in order instead of the back. The other part of me thinks that as a side-story that sort of happens in the middle of Gunmetal Magic, it doesn't really matter where you put it. It does answer a few questions regarding Curran and Kate's exchanges before they go looking for information to hunt down the Pack killers. The end leaves you happy for the boy, angry at the mother, and sadly somewhat satisfied with her fate. There is very little in the way of any relationship progress in this book as it focuses primarily on the necklace and the hoops our main characters must jump through to take it off before it kills the child.

This part of the story focuses on Andrea and Raphael facing down two would-be resurrected Gods as they try to reconnect and decide exactly what they each do or don't want from their relationship. Raphael starts out the book acting like a total jerk, though Andrea certainly didn't help things any before their break. These two dancing around each other provides far more entertainment than the murder investigation. Also must admit that for supposedly being so tough, Andrea sure faces near death a number of times int his book alone. Not sure if I do or don't like the way the confrontation with her past happened, though I did like Raphael's input to the family that sent them scurrying. It will be interested to see how these new Pack dynamics influence future books.

As I'm mostly a Kate/Curran fan, this didn't hold as much interest to me. It was still enjoyable and well done however. This one focuses on Jim and Dali during the time when Kate and Curran are recovering from their latest near death experience and have just barely accepted officially being mates and living together with the Pack. Dali is a rather unique and interesting character; you never know exactly what she's going to do. It will be interesting to see how this new dynamic plays into the next book.

So many series in this book. I'm not nearly as far in Night Huntress as Kate Daniels, so I kind of feel like some of that was spoiled for me, though at the same time it makes me want to go back and catch up on that series sooner rather than later.

Night Huntress 4.5: One for the Money by Jeaniene Frost
I'd actually already read this in it's previous publication, Death's Excellent Vacation, though I'd forgotten as at the time I don't think I'd started the series so the connection didn't click. It was far more enjoyable this time through actually being somewhat familiar with the characters.

Kate Daniels 0.5: A Questionable Client by Ilona Andrews
This short was the reason I read this book in the first place. The prequel to the Kate Daniels series, this little snippet explained a lot about the tension and comments that often bounce between Kate and Saiman. It does feel to be lacking something though as Curran is very noticeably absent in this little snippet. He really does add an element to the series that makes it even more enjoyable.

Curran 3

Curran doesn't seem even phased as Jim rolls out the history he's pieced together on Kate, including her connection to Roland. While it certainly explains just how much hew knew before Kate starting spilling herself (and why he wasn't surprised by any of it), it also shows that he really was planning on attending their dinner date. Otherwise can't say it's as catching as the other two given it just doesn't really give us anything new and there's little emotional value as Curran is determined to play it cool and stoic as Jim keeps hammering at him. Still glad he didn't run screaming, but a little disappointed there wasn't anything deeper in this one.

These short stories span through several of the earlier books following Curran's thoughts as he first meets Kate, then eventually realizes he's infatuated with her and moves into the courtship phase. A lot of this is well implied in the books, but being Curran fan, it's nice to get a change of pace now and then. Especially was amused by his reaction to their first meeting: "Here kitty, kitty, kitty." While the snippets are from several different books/scenes, it has a nice flow as it follows the progress of their relationship.

Curran POV 2: Fathers and Sons by Iona Andrews

Set at the end of Kate Daniels 4: Magic Bleeds from Curran's point of view, this is an interesting little piece showing how he finally wakes up and what his thoughts are as he confronts the other shifters on their treatment of his chosen mate and Alpha while he's been recovering. In his own words "Oh yes, Daddy is home and he ain't happy." Despite having just nearly died, Curran still shows his usual determination and energy and his faces down even his own adoptive father to remind them why he's King and stop the unfair challenges against Kate. A little stupid given he was still on the mend, but at the same time can't help but think "well done."

Even if I didn't want to at the time, I had to take a break from this series because I'd finally read everything currently released for it. Despite thinking at the time that maybe the break was good so I could catch up on some of my other series, I still found myself dragging my feet and ultimately wishing another book would be released for it already. Now that I've devoured this one faster than any other full sized book I've attempted reading since having my daughter, I find myself back in the same position again - I want more! Roarke took a bit of a back seat in this one, though I found the dynamics between Eve and Mira especially interesting as she asked to be, and eventually was, inserted into Eve's dreams as she still struggled through the emotional remains of her Dallas trip. Red Horse was an interesting idea, especially with the current political and religious upheaval between gay rights and the upcoming election. Still, it was well played and fits in well with the rest of the series. Nice to see Eve is rather attached to little Belle at this point as seen both in her dream and she talks to the baby over her 'link. Still find myself wishing at some point we'd see Roarke and Eve with their own family, though I believe I read somewhere the author has said the series will end at that point. Can't help but hope that will change.

In the process, memories resurface and he learns just how much a part of his life K has been from the beginning, even before recruiting him to be one of the Men in Black.

This is an interesting and somewhat confusing question as rouge agent Douglas Hauser learns his life as Quaid is a lie. Then it begs the question - is he really a rouge agent or an undercover spy to aid the government. In the end he must decide which persona to keep and if he'll help the government or the colony. Doesn't help that the woman he thought was his wife also turns out to be an undercover agent and decides to kill him out of jealousy, against orders, when she learns his original identity. Maybe being anonymous was better for him after all.

The Expendables 2

Originally watched the first one just to get the premise for this one as it was advertising it's upcoming release. As with the first one though, it seemed to have little going for it than big name actors playing similar roles they are well known for in action films all together shooting and blowing things up. In this case, they managed to catch my attention so little that at one point I actually fell asleep. That doesn't speak well for an action film, especially when watching it in the middle of the day and not at night when you might doze off anyways. Too bad as the previews did look somewhat interesting.

Bourne 4: The Bourne Legacy

Unlike the previous 3 films, this one does not center on Jason Bourne. Running parallel to the events in The Bourne Ultimatum, fans will recognize several scenes and news reports straight out of the previous film. However, the main focus is on Aaron Cross, another agent in search of a replacement for his medication regime as they start offing agents in response to Bourne's threat as he takes down the agency. Still interesting, but much weaker than the previous films in the series. As my husband and I discussed after watching it, it would be very fascinating to pull rouge agents like Aaron and Bourne together in a sequel at some point to put the final nail in the agency's coffin. Unlikely to happen, but it would make for an interesting tie-in with any other spin-offs they plan to do.

Resident Evil 4: Retribution

I walked in on the last part of this and wasn't impressed enough to want to go back to the beginning. These movies seem repetitive, lacking in any new story line or character development. The daughter was interesting for a moment, but being one of many clones just like her mother, quickly lost appeal as they continued with yet more gunfire, trying to get away from the company, and staying out in no-man's-land to escape the flesh eating "zombies." Can't help but hope they don't make another as all that's really put into is more gore, and that's already old news for this series.

As I recall, this is one of the books my husband recommended I start with in the series, being one of his favorites. I must admit, the earlier books with Elena drew me in more originally. Probably did not help that my reading time was very wide spread as I adjusted my schedule to our newborn's. Eventually I hit about the halfway mark though, was able to squeeze in more solid reading time once in awhile, and really got more involved wanting to know how it all ended. Admittedly it still didn't really feel like an ending to me, though I suppose it was a good point with the completion of Suzanna's ceremony. Also must admit a certain dislike and disappointment in the Coven after the way they treated Paige. Did like Lucas though and would really like to see how their story ends in the future. Hopefully the Cabals don't cause too much trouble for them, though I suppose it sounds a bit inevitable.

Snow White and the Huntsman

Snow White and the Huntsman (2012)

I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked this film, being somewhat skeptical of Stewart's acting ability after her painful hesitancy playing Bella in The Twilight Saga. Also will admit to some surprise that it was the Huntsman holding the closest connection to Snow White rather than William, the Duke's son who it appears she's had a relationship with since her childhood before being captured by the Queen. I would have thought William was the closest to Prince Charming that they were going for in this film, but they bypassed that part altogether. The dwarfs also took a new role, not being miners in the forest that she took refuge with, but taking her to the Duke's homestead and fighting by her side as soldiers. While the poisoned apple is in fact used, Snow White takes a more aggressive stance in this film as she leads the charge to reclaim her father's kingdom. Not exactly your typical damsel in distress.

IMDB is also listing a Snow White and the Huntsman 2 potential in the line up. Not sure what they'd do with that as they also list Ravenna in the characters for it and she's supposedly dead at this point. Could potentially continue with Snow White now ruling as queen and see what challenges she faces bringing the land back together, not to mention the continuing triangle between her, the Huntsman, and William. Unsure exactly what angle they could/would take for a sequel.

Hotel Hell

If you thought Kitchen Nightmares was gross, just wait until you watch this series. Gordon Ramsey tackles on some pretty bad hotels in a similar series. Predictably, he always critiques the dining room menu and looks for changes there. However, he also checks security, hospitality, management, hygiene  decor, and a  host of other things as he attempts to set these places back on track. From bugs to filthy sheets showing disgusting results under blue lights, it's horrifying to think people actually have stayed in these places prior to renovation.

So we actually finished this last month and I totally forgot I had it up on here still... oops. This has long been one of my husband's favorites. I've been meaning to read it for a very long time, but never got around to it until we brought our daughter home and it became the first family bedtime book. Despite dragging my feet to start reading it previously, I was very quickly interested in the story and found myself somewhat disappointed when our little girl fell asleep before our bedtime ritual that would reveal another chapter of the story. Ender surpasses every expectation set before him, doing things no child should ever even be asked to do. His siblings are no less involved with their political games back on Earth. Just goes to show that a bright mind and a little determination can have very drastic results.

Weiss Kreuz

Weiss Kreuz (1998)

Otherwise known by title Knight Hunters in the USA, this is the story of four boys abandoned or presumed dead who form the team Weiss, working for a secret information sect to take down corrupt people the law can't touch. Not the most detailed or consistent as far as art goes, the story continues to twist and turn as it unfolds, leaving you hoping the boys come out on top and find the justice they need so badly.

Rambo

Rambo (2008)

I have very little recollection of the original Rambo films other than brief images of a beefed up soldier being rather gun-happy on screen. In this sequel, years after the original story took place, Rambo is trying to stay hidden in retirement, helping the community he originally helped destroy. That doesn't work out so well as once again he's pulled into conflict. Surprising how well the original actor can still play his old role despite the amount of time having passed between films.

The Expendables

Had to see this after seeing previews for the new Expendables 2 that just came out. Amusing as it stars so many familiar faces and big stars from hit action films over the years. Somewhat of a let down as that appears to be the biggest thing going for it. Big names and blowing things up with a lot of blood flying as this team of elites demolishes the enemy and finishes one impossible assignment after another seems to be all that drives this story. Would be nice to have a little more purpose than the amount of gunfire, though it does fit the Rambo theme with Stallone being the main character.

Legacy

Legacy (1993)

This is a very sentimental piece about the Mormon pioneers and the trek to Zion. Filmed on location, it was interesting to have seen these places myself when on a family trip one summer during High School. It was especially interesting to learn that the mudslide scene, one of the most emotional and well known in the film, was not actually scripted, but in fact was a result of the actors staying in character when bad weather and a realistic accident on screen resulted in a real life struggle to save the wagon and passengers just as would have happened on the trail back then.

Loveless

Loveless (2005)

While this series is nice in that it's different from most and not too long (only 3 discs total), it is awful in that it really doesn't conclude anything so you're left feeling like the story barely begun when it ends. Good thing this is just a brief snip out of the full series published as manga. Still a confusing story there, but at least it goes into more detail and you get more answers a the story unravels.

The Adventures of Milo & Otis

I used to love this show as a kid. Can't remember how many times we must have rented it from the local video shop growing up. Not sure why my brother enjoyed it so much as he's not nearly into animals as much as I am, but the main characters being a cat and dog likely had a large part in my love of the film. Watching it now, it's highly amusing as the narrator changes his own voice to different pitches and speeds to differentiate the animal's tones. Rather different from more recent animal films where each character really does have their own voice and it isn't so much narrated as acted out. Still, brings back a lot of memories.

MirrorMask

This is a very strange movie filled with twists, turns, and odd costumes. Pay attention or it will quickly be very confusing. I can sort of see why it's included in the Jim Henson collection with Dark Crystal and Labyrinth given the puppets and odd mixed world stories, but it sadly is not one of the better films. Somewhat disappointing considering how much I love Labyrinth.

Brave

This seems to be an interesting combination of a story like Pixar's How To Train Your Dragon and a Disney princess story. It falls short as a princess story, but it is well done on Pixar's scale and an entertaining film overall. Rather than focusing on the love story for the princess, it focuses on her relationship with her mother and what she goes through learning the truth of her clan's past as she rediscovers how important family truly is. I doubt it's of any surprise that I like her horse too.

Mirage of Blaze: Rebels of the River Edge

This OVA is a little on the confusing side. Takaya is obviously more in touch with his earlier identity as Kagetora, evidence by the glowing tiger eyes when he gives orders. He is also obviously more capable of controlling and using his powers in different ways. On the other hand, he appears to be the same grade in school with his friends, same age, and same rebellious attitude as from the original series. So time has passed enough that he's connected with his past and learned to control his powers while accepting his position as Kegetora, yet no time has passed in relation to his school or physical appearance. Naoe is still a sore spot as he's gone AWOL in the beginning of the series and happens across Takaya's path by chance, resulting in yet another confusing reunion and more glimpses of their past together. These two just can't seem to get things straight.

Mirage of Blaze

Another very different type of anime. You'll still see some action in the form of exorcisms and unusual powers as the series continues. For the most part though, it's core is more based on the relationship between Naoe and Kagetora as, past lives of the current Naoe and Takaya. A very confusing tale that is left sadly hanging and inconclusive at the end of the anime.

The Hobbit

Done in an older animation style, this was one of my husband's favorites growing up. I can see why between his love of the series and the catchy tunes, which would likely grab any child's attention at least for a while. Overall not my favorite, but still interesting to watch. Looking forward to the live adaptation that is currently being filmed.

My Fair Lady

This musical features very correct English as Professor Higgins takes on the challenge of turning Eliza Doolittle into a proper lady. He just didn't expect to become so attached to his little experiment. Serves him right learning a bit of emotion after all of his indifference from day one.

Marmalade Boy

Not as good as the manga it's based off of, but it's still fun to see the characters come to life and actually act out what is seen in the original story and more. Some of the characters don't exist in the original story, but that doesn't mean this adaptation isn't filled with just as much mixed signals and intrigue as the original. Lower rating due to the slow pace as they really drag it out as much as possible. Can make it get a little old, though overall still cute.

Mission: Impossible

For some reason I remember this movie as being very engaging and exciting when it came out. This time however it barely kept my attention. Sad as I truly do enjoy the series. Also have memories of my mother telling me about the TV series when this came out and I first learned how to play the theme song on the piano thanks to one of her old music books. Either way, Ethan is definitely a character that stands out.
