The Pigeon Needs a Bath by Mo Willems

All of that fuss over taking a bath, and it turns out maybe it's a bit of fun after all. These books are written as if you are actually having a conversation with the pigeon, assuming what the reader's responses would be. It's a small bit of humor, but the constant ranting and raving can be a tad wearing.

The Duckling Gets a Cookie!? by Mo Willems

The duckling is very clever using their manner to not only get what they want (in this case a cookie), but willing to share to appease the pigeon and maybe play on their manners and kindness to get the kind of cookie they prefer instead. At least the pigeon calmed down and is happy again. The pigeon likes to rant a lot.

The whole premise of the book is that the reader is told not to let the pigeon drive the bus, so the pigeon is frustrated that they aren't allowed. The entire book is a series of begging, cajoling, and getting frustrated that they aren't allowed to drive the bus. There isn't really a "story" beyond that.

Don't Let the Pigeon Stay Up Late! by Mo Willems

Relatable for any parent as there always comes a time when the kids want "just 5 more minutes" before they have to go to bed. Just like with kids though, pigeons need sleep, and that becomes clearer the longer they try to stay up and not sleep. Eventually though, everyone needs sleep. Early bedtime sounds great!

The Pigeon Finds a Hot Dog! by Mo Willems

This is a very basic children's book about sharing, though it doesn't actually use that word anywhere in the story. Instead, it highlights the pigeon being greedy and possessive until the end when the birds are seen sharing. If you're wanting to teach the concept, it's a simple easy reader, but younger children who don't already know the meaning of the word may need an explanation included to be able to apply it correctly and understand that is what the goal of the story.
