We get to know a lot more about Leon and his family in this volume, and even meet a childhood friend. Unfortunately, this friend doesn't seem to be a fan of Roselia, and adds more than a little chaos to Roselia's already turbulent emotions and realizations. Leon, on the other hand, seems just as attentive as always when it comes to Roselia. Despite the extra challenges with their missions, things do seem to be working out, and Roselia is once again able to use her abilities for something beneficial. They may have picked up a rather dangerous opponent with their new leads though. It will be curious to see if their allies back in the palace have learned anything of use that aligns with their own findings. Unfortunately, it could be awhile before we find out as I'm unable to find a release date for the next volume at this time.

Oh my, is Leon as oblivious as Roselia, or is he really just that set on his poison training? Some awareness seems to be sparking towards the end, at least on Leon's side, though Roselia herself seems to struggle with his casual nature and lack of understanding just what her visits are telling the staff. Meanwhile, word of her accomplishments have traveled back home, and at least one individual is less than pleased. At least her younger sister doesn't seem to have any ill will, aside from the damage already done. Now what is more likely to happen first - Leon's dawning realizations or Roselia finding this new poison they're after.

It's not exactly an expected ending, but it fits well with the rest of the story. Shin Yu doesn't seem concerned at all about living a different life out in the country, so long as Ren Fa is with him. The bit about the curse is also interesting, though the fortuneteller really is beyond creepy. It's a good thing Shin Yu seems to trust Ren Fa and notices the effort she puts into his meals and helping him recover. Their trip overseas is especially sweet and finding her father well. It never even seems to cross Ren Fa's mind to stay, much to Shin Yu's relief. The ending does indeed feel like an end, but also remains open enough that there could be a continuation of some sort in the future if the series does well and the author was so inclined.

Ren Fa seems determined to fix things herself before her new family can suffer for her perceived mistakes, but she may end up destroying everything in the process. Shin Yu doesn't seem to believe her, which could be good or bad depending on how this news at the end came to pass in the timing of everything. Was it Shin Yu's last attempt to stop her from going to the inner palace, or is something else amiss given the turmoil the country was already in as they observed from the marketplace and the carriage rides.

Ren Fa may not know much about the way of the nobles especially, but she is slowly able to find her place in her new family and seems to get just the right amount of guidance from her new home to make her way. She even attends a tea party with the empress and the consorts, though the last thing she expected was to come face to face with Ie Hong Liu after she was refused not once, but twice, to join her new household. While it's clear Ie is less than pleased to see Ren Fa and there are a few bumps in the road with how clear her features are as an outsider, her tea and dish are well received. She even inadvertently seems to have made friends with the princess, Ron Shian. There seems to be something on the horizon though.

Lady Lily hardly seems to leave the palace these days outside of her outings with the prince or her friends. She takes a visiting princess monopolizing Prince William's time for her visit as her chance to sneak out and do whatever she likes without complaint. Except it seems like this princess may not be here for the reasons originally intended, and Lily may come face to face with yet more discoveries and realizations when it comes to her feelings for her fiancé. Surprisingly, Prince William seems to be putting his foot down on the matter at the exactly wrong time to potentially spin everything out of control sooner, though we won't know just how much damage is done until the next volume. Who is visiting Prince William's office? Did Lily actually send the letter from the bonus chapter? Hopefully the pair can get back on the same page quickly before too much damage is done.

Prince William is desperate to turn Lily's point of view around, and plays the part of the devoted fiancé perfectly. Except to him, it's not a play. Even those closest to him quickly realize the problem when they discover how he first selected Lily and the lack of any real discussion regarding their feelings since then. Lucky for William, Lily has slowly been coming to her own realizations and is surrounded by those who are willing to give her good advice for the sake of her own happiness without their own wishes clouding things, though they're also more than willing to keep her by their own sides if Lily does part ways with the prince.

With the sole exception of Prince Jose, it seems like everyone has decided this is a match made in heaven and they couldn't be happier with William's choice in Lady Lily. It seems like Lily doesn't realize just how different she is, especially compared to the other noble ladies. Add to that her determination to not make anyone else look bad due to her own perceived short comings, and it's not so surprising that she easily wins the hearts of so many.

Tinalia is still treated poorly, but the few around her who have gotten to know her seem to warm up to her and understand she truly is a good woman. Keith himself doesn't appear to be aware of how badly Tinalia has been treated, but when he learns of the tea parties at least, he takes matters into his own hands. It seems that perhaps he does remember Tinalia as well, he just doesn't realize that she is the same little girl who cared for him during the war. It will be interesting to see if he ever realizes this, and what will come of the others handling her non-existent allowance at this point, especially given the emphasis on his care for the people, cutting off excess funding, and uprooting embezzlement in the palace. He even has some leverage with the changing situation in the royal family thanks to Tinalia's observations and determination to share her suspicions, even though she had no reason to think anyone would believe her.

This is okay as far as BL stories go, but the title is more than a little confusing when compared to the story itself. It also is never confirmed, but it seems like Kishi may be the very same "girl" that Sudou is upset over losing his perfect street to. It's clear neither one of them were looking for this type of relationship, and it started under more than questionable means, but the ending is rather cute with how Kishi's family seem to favor Sudou, except for maybe Kishi's older brother, but even he can't interfere against Kishi's own wishes.

The more Winter learns, the more he seems to realize he may not know Violet as well as he thought. He's made several realizations and opened up a lot in since the beginning of the story. Violet also wants to get to know Winter better, especially when she realizes how little they know about each other. With both of them uncertain but trying to mend fences, returning to Winter's childhood home threatens to set their progress back. Violet is still the only one who knows how to trigger the body swap, though understandably is more hesitant now that there is a glimmer of hope for the future. Meanwhile, Winter still only sees it as a useful ability they can use at will. If their latest plan to intentionally swap positions does indeed work, it will be interesting to see what realizations come of the experience. Given Winter's anger when he discovers slights and damage done to Violet that he was unaware of, it's doubtful he'll be too happy if or when he discovers how they're switching places. While it makes sense that Violet would want to keep the secret, it also seems to be a rather dangerous one.

Things are heating up and getting interesting, which could make later volumes even more engaging as well. Arnald has realized that his previous assumptions clearly did not paint an accurate picture of Byletta, and he's set off to learn as much about her as he can. Arnald's conversation with his commanding officer is also hilarious and leads to further humor as he seems so focused on Byletta. Byletta herself seems more than a little confused and maybe even concerned given her inquiries if everything is okay and frequent ruminations that she doesn't understand Arnald at all. Arnald may regret being so willing to make that bet with Byletta unless they can both agree to change the terms.

This is a bit of a different twist on the usual not wanting an arranged marriage trope. Byletta is the daughter of a viscount, is well trained in swordsmanship, and is a rather sharp businesswoman. When her father sets her up to be married, her husband, Arnald, has gone off to war. Sensing greater freedom and seeing things in her husband's family home that she is determined to fix, she chooses to stay at least until he returns while growing her own business. When the war ends 8 years later, her one and only letter to her husband is requesting a divorce. Arnald doesn't seem attached to Byletta herself, but he's clearly not amused by her rejection and seems to believe rumors when it comes to her personality and actions. After setting his own terms for their divorce, he discovers maybe his assumptions based on his supposed research aren't all correct. He has a month to figure out the truth before their wager comes to an end.

For his reluctance with the initial plan, it seems Giles is surprisingly adept at playing his role in this game of theirs. There are already small tells on both sides that it could end up a case of protesting too much and inadvertently finding something better than they imagined, which would be somewhat expected with this type of set up, but would also be adorable the way these two characters compliment each other while playing their roles so well and still being rather unique in their own charms. Fiona may have inadvertently gained another protector along the way.

Fiona is a bit of a free spirit, especially for her family holding at least a low ranking position in politics and social circles. She would much rather continue working and travel the world than settle down as is expected of a young woman her age, and she plans on doing just that until she overhears her father planning to announce her engagement to her childhood friend. While this match might seem ideal to others, it looks like her little sister might harbor feelings even she is not aware of for their mutual friend, and the match would ruin Fiona's ideal future. The last thing she expected in escaping a party for a moment to herself was to overhear Giles, the Ice Scion, is also trying to escape being trapped in an arranged marriage. As luck would have it, she not only overhears his own problems, but he doesn't seem to have the same instinctual withdrawal from her as he does from other women, and she ends up with the perfect reason to meet with him later, not that either of them realize that until she comes to call. Nor could they have expected that her keen eye and unique knowledge would come in so handy during her call.

This has the promise to be a great story, but is a bit slow on the building. Bianca clearly remembers the scorn and judgment of her past life, leading up to a miserable and lonely end. Now waking up in her past 18-year-old body, she's determined to do things differently. While she does have a few ideas with merit, it seems she may still be missing a big piece of the puzzle to find her happy ending. Meanwhile, her husband and all of their attendants are baffled by the sudden change in her behavior, while her husband is equally concerned for her care. It will be interesting to see how things play out and if more than just one fate can be changed for the better along the way, not that Bianca is thinking about that consciously at this stage, but it seems to be where things are headed given the changes already taking place with her handmaid, the knights, and various other people around her.

This has the promise to be a great story, but is a bit slow on the building. Bianca clearly remembers the scorn and judgment of her past life, leading up to a miserable and lonely end. Now waking up in her past 18-year-old body, she's determined to do things differently. While she does have a few ideas with merit, it seems she may still be missing a big piece of the puzzle to find her happy ending. Meanwhile, her husband and all of their attendants are baffled by the sudden change in her behavior, while her husband is equally concerned for her care. It will be interesting to see how things play out and if more than just one fate can be changed for the better along the way, not that Bianca is thinking about that consciously at this stage, but it seems to be where things are headed given the changes already taking place with her handmaid, the knights, and various other people around her.

Even Uka seems to be thinking about things and wanting to be better for him, but he genuinely likes her just as she is. Uka is at the same time uncertain as she questions her own femininity and what Kai really likes about her, while also being more certain and bold as she has moments where she stands up for what she wants and solidifies her own place with her friends, refusing to be replaced even as she supports others like Nano.

We finally make it to the big highlight of the first arc, but it's not finished yet and looks like it will be awhile before the next volume comes to the U.S. As with the other volumes, it's easier to see the character's emotions in this drawn format, and still follows the original light novel closely. This does mean that the story is very familiar for readers who have already read the novels, but the consistency is also nice and the details are wonderful. Coming back to this series is always a comfortable experience that is a quick read and engaging with a well balanced amount of emotion and action without tipping the scales. Leia and Prince Eric's disgust and quick thinking during the party are even more apparent when seeing them in action here, as well as just how far Jill and the Duke have fallen.

Arthur's actions make even more sense to Alice now, which is to his favor given their relationship. Gray is even surprising when they run into each other at the party. It's clear he's not exactly happy about how things played out, but he remained respectful for a change, and even played the part of the knight, though his ire directed at Arthur may be a bit misaligned. Chloe also is a bit of a surprise, though someone would have needed to get in the way for the story to continue without a hitch. I thought this might be the end as I couldn't find any information on a fourth volume, but it seems the story is ongoing at this point.

Alice is a gentle and timid girl, who thinks her lot in life is to follow her family's example and obey traditions to marry Gray, the son of a higher-ranking family that her family historical is indebted to. Alice would rather not accept this fate though as she fears it will be a loveless match and doesn't want a life under Gray's thumb. This is of very little surprise as the story unfolds and we see firsthand how they tend to interact together. It also proves that Gray is an idiot, though not without his own faults and misconceptions.
As luck would have it, Alice's desperate bid to replace her fate with a different engagement falls on none other than Arthur Grindelbard. As the son of a duke, he's perhaps one of the few options that out-ranks Gray's proposal. Arthur seems to have his own secret agenda, but everyone does seem to adore Alice. She's a bit naive and too innocent at times, but genuinely does seem to mean well. If anything, it makes her more real that she's not perfect and realizes at least some of her own flaws while striving to do and be better. Hopefully that ambition won't be misplaced.

Though there is only one season in the anime, it covers a lot of the same ground as the manga, so fans of the original books will still recognize the series. The manga has since gone on beyond the point of this season, but they round out the main story well where we focus on Adachi and Kurosawa. We do see the foundation of Tsuge's relationship with Minato as well, though not as in depth in some ways as in the manga. The art is consistent as well, which is a big plus in the anime. There are even small details, like how Adachi's eyes are covered more in the beginning and when he's uncertain of himself, but as he grows comfortable in his relationship with Kurosawa, both of his eyes show consistently and clearly. It's a small detail, but is an interesting potential outward sign of his emotional state at the same time.

The bodyguards are already a bit much, but then the recordings in the car and the spy unit just take the cake. I may not know as much about the series as my children given I've only watched the anime and haven't read the books yet, but my daughter loves spoilers and adores this series, so it still felt familiar with just enough mixed in of the unknown to still be enjoyable. The movie picks up directly where the tv series left off, so fans who haven't finished the original media yet may feel out of sorts as they are dropped directly back into the action of the Infinity Castle. As with the rest of the series, there are plenty of fight scenes and more than a fair amount of blood interwoven with man stories. We get more backstory of several characters, including Shinobu, Akaza, Doma, and Zenitsu. Those that are lucky inside the castle are either working in groups as the lower ranks trying to deal with the weaker demons so the Hashira can focus their energy on the upper moons and Muzan, or have paired up with another slayer. Tanjiro fortunately finds Giyu at his back while their old master guards his sister to keep her out of Muzan's grasp. We meet more of the Kagaya's children who had not previously been seen in the series, as well as a revisit from some of the retired Hashira to guard those who are not fighting in the castle directly. The crows are a bit of hilarity mixed in to all of the seriousness as well, between their flight to map out the castle and the rather loud announcements of various slayer's status. It's not entirely clear how the crows managed to get it, though it seems it may have something to do with Yushiro's demon blood art and the plan he and Tamayo laid out with Kagaya. It's understandable given the amount of content that this arc is broken up into 3 movies, though hopefully the following 2 will not be delayed given the resounding success and current fandom that could be capitalized on if they keep up the momentum.

Surprisingly, they both have a bit of a jealous streak, too. What are the odds this could really be a match made in heaven.

It seems there is at least one person determined to prove Viola isn't a good match for Phil, yet the more that comes to light, the more it becomes clear that they actually cared for each other all along, they just weren't on the same page. Vivi comes in handy once again, as does Zeke, despite also being one of the causes for rumors. Fortunately, Zeke and Phil are also good friends, so he doesn't seem to get jealous or worried over Viola spending time with her cousin like with other men. Curious to see if the light novels go any further in detail than this ending, though this would admittedly also be a good place for this story to end given the foundation for how it started and the title. Took awhile, and more than a few misunderstandings, but it looks like Viola may have had her perfect prince all along.

There are many highlights in the story, but the hotel scene is especially sweet, while still remaining innocent.

There are more than a few awkward situations as Viola tries to figure out what game Phil is playing here, but she can't fool everyone. Her cousin, Zeke, seems an unlikely ally, though possibly only because he gets just as much enjoyment from being on the inside of this hilarious game the pair are playing together. Just what is the truth in all of this, and if Phil does truly feel this way, why was he always so distant previously?

We leave off on a bit of a cliffhanger with Lord Bernard and strange happenings with Prince Leonhart's abilities. This is a rather new pickle to work out, especially given how tightly guarded their secret truly is.

Well, that escalated quickly. Prince Zayd went from just being a little creepy to being outright dangerous. While Cordelia ma not like the increased attention, Prince Leonhart seems perfectly happy with this turn of events, though at least some initial sadness when it becomes clear just how far Zayd has gone and how much he now hates Leonhart. With some well placed allies and unique abilities along with Cordelia's quick mind, they're able to find a rather unique way out of a tight fix and turn the tides for the better. With the exception of perhaps Cordelia's mother, it seems in most regards things are looking up, with those who would be the most trouble decisively dealt with or no longer a risk. It's also heartening to see Cordelia has some other relatives that are kind and know of her plight, even if they weren't around for much of the story, and her father at least can be made to see sense.

On the surface, this seems similar to other popular series right now where one sibling is looked over or framed in some way to make the other seem better, and the one who is cast off finds themselves in an unlikely match. Cordelia may be the older sister, but her family dotes on her younger sister, Priscilla, who continually takes everything of Cordelia's that catches her eye, be it toys, dresses, or even fiancés. After four broken engagements, Cordelia feels done with the whole ordeal and focuses on her family's estate that she's been running in her father's stead. With this in mind, the last thing she expects is to catch the eye of Prince Leonhart, let alone learn his secret with the legendary lion. On the surface, this seems similar to other popular series right now where one sibling is looked over or framed in some way to make the other seem better, and the one who is cast off finds themselves in an unlikely match. Cordelia may be the older sister, but her family dotes on her younger sister, Priscilla, who continually takes everything of Cordelia's that catches her eye, be it toys, dresses, or even fiancés. After four broken engagements, Cordelia feels done with the whole ordeal and focuses on her family's estate that she's been running in her father's stead. With this in mind, the last thing she expects is to catch the eye of Prince Leonhart, let alone learn his secret with the legendary lion. Despite Cordelia's confusion, the prince seems determined to win her over, no longer how long it takes. Good thing too given he's already saved her twice just in this short span.

The Dragon Knight's Beloved 9 by Ritsu Aozaki

It's been awhile since the last volume came out, so I was pleasantly surprised to find this on the shelf at the bookstore. This series is comfortable, sweet, and easy to fall into. Melissa continues to grow into her role as Hubert's fiancé, but sometimes needs a reminder it's not just the dragons that need her attention, it's also Hubert himself. Blue is as attached to Melissa as ever, so it's not surprising that they keep that in mind with their planning and travel. Litia seems like an interesting place, though it's hard to get a read on their new mistress. Is she really just afraid of dragons or is there something else going on there?

Between the events with Linhua's uncle and the late emperor's funeral, there seems to be more than enough to keep everyone busy. It's rather adorable how Zhiyou's mind works and he's starting to identify ways to make people happier going forward, starting with those closest to him. We even get some more background into Linhua's father as events unfold, not that Souren or Xiuying seem inclined to let him off the hook any time soon. Linhua gets awfully flustered around Souren still, especially considering their relationship and how open Souren is with her, especially when they have some time together without the prying eyes of others, though Xiuying is very protective and seems to be watching them like a hawk.

It's also hilarious to see Zhiyou interact with Linhua's younger siblings. Even though it seems everything was planned in advance, Zhiyou doesn't seem too pleased by Linhua staying home rather than being in the palace. Souren seems to be of the same mindset, though being older and more used to playing roles expected of him, manages not to appear as overtly concerned. Perhaps it's warranted though given the events on the way home and Souren's understandable panic. Linhua gets to meet another of the women who serve Souren under special circumstances. It's interesting how each of the people close to him that Linhua meets end up taking a liking to her. Just who exactly is this mysterious puppet master behind the scenes though, and will the link to the Mo family be uncovered?

Both Rashta and this Duke Ergi seem like trouble, though a different sort than Rashta's previous master. There's some small hope with the Empress' birthday and Sovieshu's claims of peace, yet he still seems to prefer Rashta's company back at the palace. Sovieshu also continues to insist on disinterest if Navier takes a lover, but is strangely obsessed with her "type" ever time he sees her interact with another man. Lots of mixed messages in that relationship. The situation with the magic ring seems like it should also be even more suspicious than it plays out. In the meantime, it's curious how Navier notices all of these details about Queen, yet hasn't actually hit upon the truth yet. Just what exactly is Heinrey after? If nothing else, he seems rather determined to stay on good terms with Navier.

When Sovieshu brings home a stray beautiful girl from a hunting trip, he seems smitten, doting on Rashta and ignoring his Empress in favor of his new mistress. There's a lot to unpack in this first volume, and it's a little disjointed as it jumps from character to character. For some reason, Olivia seems to remind at least two werewolves of someone names Julia that seems to have met an unfortunate end. Something about Olivia also seems to calm some of the side effects of the medication Damien has been taking to suppress his werewolf nature. Damien wants to know how she can help him, and Olivia is desperate to find help for her daughter's failing health. Lucky for Damien, he's the CEO of the top pharmaceutical company that is known for their investigations into treating rare and unknown illnesses. Why are they both seeing these things out of their control and what does this unnatural tie truly mean? What is this Silas and priest up to as well? Seems they are also werewolves, but may be enemies at the same time. Not much clarity, but a lot of set up for a lot of drama.

In the meantime, Anna has been busy turning the academy on its' ear and now seems to have won over the school in her favor, even above Iris' previous spotlight. With Kenneth now returning and Iris realizing Anna may be an even bigger threat and rival than she assumed, it will be interesting to see how the Eclipse family retaliates. Though Iris may at least think that her feelings are more true than her siblings, and that allows her a different fate, it seems she also is aware that she is just a pawn in her father's games and there is ultimately very little she has control of as events unfold. Anna, for her part, seems equally annoyed and angry by his games as she is interested in the strategy behind his moves. While her new school is a social nightmare, it seems she's made some interesting friends along the way, in thanks truthfully to Prince Kenneth's own alliances and puppeteering behind the scenes. He does indifference very well in public, but when it is just Kenneth and Anna, it's clear that he does indeed find her interesting if nothing else. Seems he has more than a few ulterior motives and doesn't see himself as already engaged, though those around him take it as a foregone conclusion at this rate.

This a sequel to the other two stories in this series. Both of the established couples have their turn in the spotlight here, but it seems we may have a new third couple, and one of the pair is Kurasama's younger brother. There is something up with his co-star though, and it seems whatever is triggering him may also affect Takaba. While Kurasama doesn't seem too pleased to be forced into close contact with his sibling, he's still doing his job well and encouraging Takaba as he's been assigned to work with the production crew. Seems the tables may have turned a bit, and Takaba is the one losing control.

We finally get more information about Sasabe and his new mate, including the one-sided competition against Utou. There's more than a little bit of heartbreak and stress in this volume, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel. While it is not ideal by any stretch and most seem to find it as a punishment, it seems there is a way to remove the mate mark and effects, which gives Sasabe hope that maybe he can have his happily ever after in the end. Things move rather quickly from there once this new pair are on the same page and decide they want their future together.

I originally found this under a different title online and had read the first two volumes back in 2018. With the different title in the official English release, it was unfamiliar at first, but then seemed more and more familiar as the story progressed. This was the first volume that was entirely new, which left a bit of a gap from where it had left off years back to this volume. The characters are familiar though and the story picks up quickly. Unfortunately, the story doesn't seem to get much better from the first volume under the Beta title, with Sasabe and Utou still seeming to be torn. Even Kurasama seems to have some regrets, feeling as if his previous role in the company plays a part in how Sasabe is treated and viewed as an omega now that he's off the market. Sasabe himself seems to be more than a little jealous at least of the appearance of safety and security that Kurasama's relationship gives him, though it's unclear just how much of the company history he's familiar with. Each character has their own struggle in the end, and this arc doesn't seem to be too kind to them.

Poor Kanade isn't getting much of a break from his panic, but there are several breakthroughs in this volume. Kanade and Mashiro end up visiting their hometown for the summer, both to see their families (separately) and to go to a school reunion. Seems there may have been some reason for Kanade's worry over Mashiro meeting his family, but not entirely either as he still has some solid support there, too. Mashiro has his own share of surprises from his mother as well, though they aren't as high impact as Kanade's. For all that the trip down memory lane seemed rather sad and disheartening at first, it seems visiting home might not be all that bad after all.

I read this one for my daughter who loved this book and finds some peace in a sort of easy-going acceptance where people don't fit "normal" expectations in society. Morimoto has always done what her parents expected of her and tried to excel to meet those expectations, except that she really has no interest in anyone's insistence she should get married. Hana is Morimoto's friend from school, who even now still calls her "senpai" and once confessed her feelings for Morimoto. Despite her misgivings, Morimoto goes along with Hana's plan of getting a certificate and pretending to be married to stop her parent's invasive persistence. This covers just about every awkward situation and trope you can think of in this scenario, including Morimoto ultimately questioning why she was so against a relationship with Hana in the first place. The story is done in a cute way, but don't expect to entirely escape the cringe either in this genre.

Kanade and Mashiro get put to the test between work scenarios that could go very wrong and Mashiro's own mother showing up out of the blue at his apartment and insisting they'll go back to living together in Tokyo. Despite his mother's claims of acceptance, it's clear she has her own expectations of how Mashiro's life should go and it all focuses around her wants, leaving little to no room for Kanade, let alone for Mashiro himself. There's a significant growth in their relationship as a result of these challenges as they learn to communicate what they want and start deciding on things together. Turns out what seems fun and leaves them yearning for more might be something worth fighting for.

Kanade and Mashiro get put to the test between work scenarios that could go very wrong and Mashiro's own mother showing up out of the blue at his apartment and insisting they'll go back to living together in Tokyo. Despite his mother's claims of acceptance, it's clear she has her own expectations of how Mashiro's life should go and it all focuses around her wants, leaving little to no room for Kanade, let alone for Mashiro himself. There's a significant growth in their relationship as a result of these challenges as they learn to communicate what they want and start deciding on things together. Turns out what seems fun and leaves them yearning for more might be something worth fighting for.

Kanade has given up on love after being rejected back in school and losing touch with his best friend and crush. Add in knowing he's gay, and he doesn't feel like he can be bothered with even pretending to be interested in girls that confess to him. Unknowingly, in doing so and trying to protect himself, he's causing the exact same scenario that he claims hurt him so much that it wasn't worth the heartbreak again. This realization comes after Mashiro comes crashing back into his life claiming he'll prove they should stay together. The claims are all well and good, but there are more than a few uncertainties and mixed messages before the two. It's rather adorable how much their friends rally behind these two; they really just need to stay on the same page of what they both want and are slowly taking steps towards that goal.

For those who are familiar with vampire lore, they may recognize the name Alucard. In this version, Al is raised by Kaname, a priest, and both assume he is a vampire, though there a few oddities to Alucard's life, like being able to hold Kaname's rosary without injury. Al's nature may be the only reason Kaname admits to going along with their arrangement at the start, but truthfully both have strong feelings for the other. There's more than the fair share of NSFW content and suggestive content when another vampire comes across the pair and threatens to steal Kaname away. At the core though, this is a slightly different take to a rather traditional vampire story with a sweetness underneath given the way these two grow together.

Rangetsou is both determined and desperate to change fate, leading to some rather significant changes in her appearance and how her powers are functioning in battle, which were already impressive to begin with. It seems perhaps the original conclusions that fate can't be changed entirely may not be as true as thought given the reference to the change. Tenyou also managed to find the threat from the inside, though the question remains if it's too little too late. At least it seems the current emperor understands more than one aspect of Tenyou's ideals and goals to aid their people and lands. Now if they can truly turn the tides, perhaps they can earn some of the peace they wanted to begin with. Even Sogetsu seems to be serious for a change, not necessarily for himself, but for the sake of the future Rangetsou is fighting for.

Neneko is a really innocent character with a very overdone "sexy" body type that Omi can't resist. He's not entirely wrong when he wonders how Neneko has survived for this long as a spy given her innocent nature and inexperience. Her name also closely resembles "Neko" (cat) and it's difficult to tell from the artwork if she has catlike ears or her hair is done up in a way to look like ears, making the name seem to fit both from her attitude and her appearance. More than once, her mouth is drawn to look more like a kitten smiling than a person. Omi, on the other hand, typically comes across as a puppy or a very dark protective shadow. Now there's this new thread to untangle with the information that Omi apparently has some personal experience working for the same organization. What made him leave though, and why is Neneko the "only one" who can deal with him?

Kyouhei is a country bumpkin in the big city for the first time, but he'll take great offense to that being pointed out to him while at the same time also judging the "city slickers." His new neighbor, Takara, seems to be a polar opposite - popular, outgoing, a playboy, and definitely a city slicker. Regardless of their differences, these two are pulled together consistently and can't stop thinking about each other. When Kyouhei's friend from the country comes to visit, things come to a head and Takara decides he needs to act now, in part before he loses his chance, and also to protect Kyouhei yet again. It's understandable given their first meeting why Kyouhei doesn't entirely believe Takara is serious, but his actions do seem to follow his words once he makes up his mind.
