The Punisher (2004)

I actually do like this one better than it's sequel. You not only get to know the original Frank Castle, but see first hand what happens to transform him into the Punisher. Still plenty dark and plenty of blood flying. It is nice to see the unexpected connection and help from his first time neighbors as he re-learns how to live and what his new meaning will be without his family.

Frank Castle is after the mob. Having an inside source on the crime intelligence makes his job easier. He certainly lives up to his name, the Punisher. This movie is very dark, partially because of all the shooting, but also because it largely takes place at night. Similar to the Batman films, it is dark by it's very nature alone without adding the weaponry or language to it. Not my favorite of the comic adaptations, but not a total disaster either. There's only so much you can do with a vigilante and a couple of guns.
