I have to admit, I'm glad the series is finally over. Apparently I was dead on with the halos Sissy sees indicating the players in the soul game. It also appears Ad was right when he first suggested Jim might be one of the souls, though he appears to have forgotten that when Sissy tells him and Eddie that they have to go after Jim for that very reason. Jim appears to be very lucky that he is so attached to Sissy or he would have lost the game in a very bad way. Obviously Devina breaking her own mirror was not anywhere on the potential original game plan, but it was a rather handy way to end the game overall. Curious if Ad and Eddie will now be showing up in the Black Dagger Brotherhood since it appears they've been sent after Lassiter and that's where he is currently hanging out. Not that the series needs more crossovers; it really doesn't. I'd rather the angels just fade out of the story altogether, though I somehow don't see that happening. Maybe by some stroke of luck it will be a quick cameo to get Lassiter off stage (though he did come in rather handy with the daytime reconnaissance at the Shadow camp in the last book).

This series is just not cutting it for me. Jim has so many issues that he keeps messing up over and over again, it is beyond old. Getting Sissy out was a nice gesture, but at the cost of a win for the overall game that it now looks like he's losing? Not sure that's worth it; especially on top of Nigel's apparent suicide. The saving grace might be Sissy's ability to see the halos if that somehow represents the souls in game play as that would certainly take a lot of the guess work out of the game where previously it was Devina who only knew for sure since the "angels" got very filtered info. The whole thing with G.B. and Duke being brothers and polar opposites is just weird. That introduces a whole host of problems on top of the wrong soul issue. Don't even get started on the whole G.B./Cait/Duke triangle (apparently following G.B./Nicole/Duke). That is a relationship that appears doomed from the start. Rather surprised that at least 2 of them appear to survive for their "happily ever after" as that is not how the story reads it should have ended. I really just don't know what to think of this series most of the time. I want to like it, but I just can't. That makes it rather hard when I know one of these books is next up on my to-read list.

Fallen Angels 4: Rapture

Fallen Angels 4: Rapture by J.R. Ward

I actually enjoyed this the most of the books in this series so far, despite the fact that it's also taken the longest for me to finish it of any of the books - the result of running on baby time, working, and being called out of town for a funeral all throwing wrenches in reading time. Matthias is very similar to Heron on the surface, but underneath he seems to have a much faster reflex when it comes to figuring things out and making decisions - something which Heron is starting to drive me a little crazy with. His latest decision concerning the flags and Sissy is not exactly earning him bonus points, though I notice the outcome of that wager has been left off for the next book. Mel makes a good contrast for Matthias, so their ending is a nice touch, though I wonder if Matthias will make future appearances as the war continues. Dog's revelation makes a lot of sense with how aware and responsive he's been from day one. Some amusement to Heron's discomfort over that little scene. Overall a better, more cohesive story it seemed. Will have to wait for the next book to see if the series keeps improving for me or drops back down again.

I might love Black Dagger Brotherhood, and this story may overlap with it nicely, however I still had a horrible time with this book. I ended up skimming it more than concentrated reading as I normally would do just because it was the only way I actually made any progress on it. Otherwise I'd probably still be within the first four chapters. Veck's story is somewhat predictable and still oddly sweet, which rings true for the romance angle of these books. It's a decent book, for some reason it just didn't click with me like some of her others do.

Very slow getting into the book. About halfway through started to feel like I was really interested in wanting to know the story's conclusion. Not too surprising since I also had a harder time getting in to Covet. Definitely do not care for Devina at all and was a little disappointed but not all that surprised at Matthias's fate. Still admittedly prefer TBDB over FA, but still also good reads. Just enough mix of the action and romance that they don't feel over done.
