No matter how close to the wedding we seem to get, there is something new that happens, though the date itself isn't delayed. Fortunately it turns out Renato is safe and sound, though there's still more than enough excitement with the other unintentional rescue and then the last scene. For all that Mimi just wants a little time with her prince, things never seem to go according to plan. Her strength comes in handy more than once in saving the day, though it gets her into some trouble unintentionally. Given how free Mimi tends to be, can't imagine this new edict going over very well, though it may or may not bring some peace of mind to Prince Renato at least temporarily.

This volume covers from the departer of Mia and her group of visitors up to the first part of the "wedding week," which kicks off with Aida's wedding and is meant to end with Mimi and Prince Renato's. Mimi's family is back on the scene as well, leading to more than a few hilarious encounters ans Mimi and Renato desperately want a few moments alone as a couple before their rather public grand debut, but it seems this is more and more unlikely, especially when Prince Renato goes missing. Originally, it looked like this could potentially be the final installment of the series if it covered both of the anticipated weddings, but it seems there is more drama yet to play out. If they can find a solid lead though, it's more than a little likely Mimi, and maybe her family with her, will be off to save the day, and the others will be hard pressed to hold them back or keep up.

This volume was a little more confusing as there were some missing pages from the version of volume 7 I read previously, so I'll have to backtrack to fill in some of the story. Mimi seems to be much the same with her positivity and strength, not that it seems to be making this visiting delegation back down until the very end. A little surprising that the sorcerer would end up working for the princess instead of Mimi with the way she seems to be drawing people in and changing things, but perhaps this will work for the best given the odd friendships she's managed to forge. At least it seems her relationship with her prince and position with the court is seen in a rather positive and light - much to the surprise of their visitors when they see how much support and praise Mia garners at the ball. There seems to be something about this armor and an outing in town though that will have to look back at volume 7 to fill in the details.

Finding the complete volume made a big difference here in understanding a few references in volume 8, including the suit of armor and even the sorcerer staying with the princess when the delegation finally left. Of course Renato recognizes Mimi no matter what she's wearing, not that Mimi seems to clue into that fact and seems convinced she got away with some big secret. Their visitors on the other hand seem to be rather bull headed and selfish, though they stress the good of the kingdom several times. It's little surprise then, that Renato and his brother seem to be a little more blunt than politics typically allow when they meet with these delegates. The cookies are also a hilarious little detail, and also make more sense with the references in the future, too. More than a few moments when you think it's only possible because it's Mimi.

There are far more questions than answers here, but the naivete and determination Mimi usually strikes out with shine through, even if it often makes her a tad too exuberant. It is good to see if nothing else her relationships with Prince Renato and the others are very solid, to the point that between that and her own lack of understanding, even when issues could arise with the Sandelz empire during this visit. Princess Ancelline especially seems like she could be problematic, along with these unknown attackers. It seems like something may also be a key point around this sorcerer, though it's clear this is a sore subject for Aida. Still, even with all this confusion and things not going according to plan, Prince Renato seems unshakable in his faith when it comes to Mimi and vice versa. Rather envious truly, including the hilarious shenanigans Mimi cooks up just to try and do her part to make Prince Renato happy.

Prince Renato finally gets to meet Mimi's family, though it's unclear if anything could truly prepare him for this encounter. Fortunately, Renato is nearly as popular with Mimi's family as she is with his, though likewise, it's not something they'll believe themselves to start with. This Gabriele on the other hand, may not be like all of the others. Hopefully, things won't go too awry with the visit from the Sandelz empire, though we leave the story with a bit of a bombshell from Prince Renato of all the characters to have some added shock value.

It seems Prince Ireneo may be a bit of a handful in his own way, though Mimi may still beat him in the end. Still, even as she struggles to be a good lady for Prince Renato, she continues to blunder her way through things in the strangest and most endearing manner. At least it seems the most important parts of the event go well, even if the rest may not end up anything like expected. Of course, it's not a volume of Always a Catch without touching scenes between Prince Renato and Mimi somewhere in the mix. Even Raimondo seems to be thawing more than he pretends to the rest of the public.

The hilarious entertainment continues as Mimi sets off to return to the capital, with a slight detour to see how the chief's daughter is faring. Once again, she dives into something full force and may not actually have all the pieces together. Luckily, she has more than a few new friends and admirers to help out when things get dicey. We even have some rather sweet moments with Prince Renato when he rejoins the main storyline, though it seems his aid may also be aiding in blocking some of their romance while also keeping watch over the duo.

We get to see more of Mimi's unique family and interactions in this volume as she returns home to visit them following her engagement. It's clear that while her family may be a bit eccentric, they all love each other dearly and are a tight-knit family. We even get to see Mimi's adorable little brother that she's so taken with. Readers may even recognize what her "hairpin" actually is, though they use different descriptions so far in the story. Of course, Prince Renato is not too happy with Mimi being so far away from him, even if she does inadvertently give him a great reason to follow when she sends the villagers to the palace for aid.

I wasn't sure what to think going into this, but it's so different while still driving the romantic interests that the story is hilarious. Mimi should be a proper lady in everyone else's eyes as the daughter of a duke, except her family is rather unique. Combine her strength with her habit of saying what she's thinking and her unique point of view on things (if a bit naive and off the mark at times) and it makes for some rather hilarious situations and interactions. Things start off rocky when Prince Renato declares their engagement is annulled in front of a crowd, except he's not engaged to Mimi at this point, but to her cousin Aida. It seems everyone who meets her can't help falling for her innocent charm, even when they come across as possibly even hating her. That's a useful ability, even if she has no clue why everyone else might be so taken with her.
