Bourne 5: Jason Bourne (2016)

There is a definite equation in the Bourne movies. Car chase scene, female helping Bourne, flashbacks, lots of guns and hiding. However, it works. This time we get to know not just more about Jason, but also about his father and his part to pay in Treadstone. Heather is hard to pin down. Is she really on the side of the CIA or of Jason Bourne? Right now it looks like she could go either way depending on who she's really trying to play. Luckily, Jason isn't going to just trust anyone he meets. Plenty of set up here for another film down the road. We'll see if it keeps going, and if so, for how long.

Unlike the previous 3 films, this one does not center on Jason Bourne. Running parallel to the events in The Bourne Ultimatum, fans will recognize several scenes and news reports straight out of the previous film. However, the main focus is on Aaron Cross, another agent in search of a replacement for his medication regime as they start offing agents in response to Bourne's threat as he takes down the agency. Still interesting, but much weaker than the previous films in the series. As my husband and I discussed after watching it, it would be very fascinating to pull rouge agents like Aaron and Bourne together in a sequel at some point to put the final nail in the agency's coffin. Unlikely to happen, but it would make for an interesting tie-in with any other spin-offs they plan to do.

This is one series that never gets old. Jason Bourne is finally going to get some real answers and some sort of closure. Not only has Treadstone gone down, but so will Blackbriar if he has anything to say about it. It's not just Bourne on his own this time though. He'll get some unexpected help from CIA agents Pamela Landy and Nicky Parsons, both returning characters from previous films who have up prior up close interaction to determine his character for themselves. No definitive answer on Bourne's fate and still open ended for another sequel if the directors ever decided to pick it up again, this is a great movie either by itself or as the third installment of a series.

Only this time, he'll undercover the real traitors while clearing his own name in the process. The CIA doesn't stand a chance against this one rogue agent.

I love this series. Jason Bourne is unique, complex, and incredible all in one. Honestly a good guy just wanting to do the right thing; he struggles to find out who he was and decide who he will become. Turns out his past isn't all sunshine and roses as the very government he was conditioned to serve is gunning for him. See how real people escape fantastic situations without the ever-popular super powers most series prefer.
