As the title suggests, this is a collection of short stories from Ninjago. This is a very basic introduction into the world and story of Spinjitzu, and aligns very closesly with the early animated features for the story as well. If you have a child who is familiar with the LEGO sets and/or the animated features for this series, they may enjoy this book, especially if they are still in the early reader phase. The Lego Batman Movie

The Lego Batman Movie (2017)

I remember the first Lego movie felt like watching crack (and the second one from Frozen wasn't much better). Just like the others, the humor here is over the top and redundant. Batman especially is overly antagonistic and often downright cruel while supposedly being oblivious to his carelessness and self-centered personality. Not exactly endearing in any sense. Yes, the original Batman was a loner and had security issues of his own leading to the creation of the "masked vigilante." He did, however, appear to have more empathy and concern for Gotham than this rendition portrayed. An interesting watch, but definitely not something I'd necessarily want to watch again in the near future.

Like most Lego movies, the animation is odd to say the least. I know it's because everything is designed to look like real Lego pieces come to life, but that doesn't make it seem any less strange. The previews for this TV special/movie touted that it brought back the original voice actors. However, it appears they went cheap with the production as it's short, has no new music to speak of, constantly drops one liners from the original movie (could say they were trying to be clever, but it just comes off as if they have no originality), and feels like a never ending bit of filler. It's amusing, in a watching-a-train-wreck sort of way.

This has to be one of the most random animated comedy movies I have seen in awhile. I realize they are all genuine Lego sets, which is why they can all be tossed in there at random, but the name drops (Batman, Superman, Han Solo, Chewbacca, Green Lantern, Gandalf, etc), seem so haphazard and unnecessary that it's more like they are there just to show they have them than because the characters really pay a vital role. On the other hand, I now have Everything Is Awesome stuck in my head thanks to this movie. What an odd and yet apparently catchy song to run the show by.
