I remember seeing this years ago, closer to when it first came out. This was also my before my days of recognizing who Bruce Willis is or being a fan of his work. There's a little bit a fright/creepy factor into this movie as it does involve seeing ghosts essentially how they died. Interesting twist that it's a ghost who teaches the child (referred to as a "medium" by many other series) how to deal with the ghosts. In the process he not only learns to believe that the boy's claims are true, but finally recognizes his own situation for what it is.

While You Were Sleeping

I have fond memories of my mother and I watching this when I was younger. It is a rather twisted yet cute love story as a girl first crushes on one brother, than falls in love with the other while he's in a coma after she's saved his life - a large part of why his family accepts her as one of their own while he's sleeping. In the end, it appears to work out for the best as the family sorts things out, though I can't help but wonder what happened to the first brother as he's barely mentioned in passing after the shotgun wedding is called to a halt.

The Joy Luck Club

Pay attention watching this one or you might get a little confused and is bounces from person to person, present to past, and back again several times over. The overall story is about love, family, sacrifice, and learning the value of yourself and those around you. Overall a heart-wrenching story with a series of ups and downs that really contrast what was, to what is, and what the girls wish it would be. Migrating to the Americas doesn't magically solve all problems after all, though that and a simple swan feather were a good start for this Chinese family.

G.I. Jane

G.I. Jane (1997)

Another stumbled upon favorite in my husband's collection. Supposedly based on a true story, this is an interesting take on a lone woman fighting for her place in the service alongside the usual men who ruled the field previously. Overall well made and very realistic. An enjoyable movie I wouldn't mind watching again and again.

As a result of political games between politicians, a woman gets rolled into US Navy SEALS. She wants to complete the training just as men do, no help, no exceptions, no excuses. Everybody, the senators, the press, the world including the Master Chief, are just waiting for her to fail and drop out, but she has a goal and the termination to complete her training.

Sin City

Sin City (2005)

An adaption of four short story comics revolving around cops, mobs, and prostitutes. The stories play through with various characters only to come back to their final conclusions 8 years later. A little jumbled and not the best film wise. The cinematography is interesting though as it is largely done in black and white with only select people or pieces in color, adding a unique emphasis to certain parts that would otherwise be lost. Another Bruce Willis film for the collection.
