Liddy ends up in another unexpected situation, but it seems like her rose may have more benefits than even they realized when Freed manages to show up just in time. It's not too surprising then, that the last thing the two want is to be separated, even though they're mostly willing to go with the status quo. It seems Freed does have some idea about Cain and the protection he may be providing for Liddy, though Cain does not yet want to leave his shadows and conveniently is too far away when things happen at the start of this volume. It seems there may be an even larger plot to steal Liddy away, not that she has any desire or intention to leave Freed.

Liddy still can't seem to find the words or admit to herself, but it's clear as day to everyone else when she talks about Freed, let alone when the two of them are together. It's probably lucky Freed doesn't seem to know she spent the afternoon with Will when she didn't have lessons given how jealous he is, but he also does seem to genuinely want her to be happy, even if that is with another guy. Prince Maximillian and his father seem to be trouble, and possibly this other assassin, though he seems to be more interested in Cain thinking the two of them are similar than anything else. It seems Liddy may need to figure out how to introduce Cain and Freed sooner rather than later if she's to hope they can share information. It might also be a relief that she has that extra protection, even though Freed is likely to get jealous all over again.

There may be some confusion if you pick up this part of the story before reading the original I'll Never Be Your Crowned Princess series, though we start off with a pretty good summary at the start to catch readers up to speed. We meet more of the royal family at the celebration in this volume and find some of them may be trouble as well as managing to illustrate some of the potential problems and risks associated with the royal bloodline that makes the royal flower so important. We inadvertently get another resounding endorsement for the prince's strength as well when Liddy learns Cain can't follow them into his room when he's with her. It's for the best given how flustered she was thinking he was watching earlier, but it could pose some risk, especially with more assassins lurking about. Seems trouble may be on its way to the castle.

There are a few moments where it seems like Liddy may be starting to realize she's growing attached to Prince Freed if nothing else, but all in all, she's still firmly in denial when it comes to her own emotions. Her actions really do paint a rather touching picture to those around her though, especially when they see the two of them together, which seems to please the prince immensely. He's already proven a bit possessive and jealous when he learns of Will being childhood friends with Liddy, even though he himself is also good friends with both Will and his brother, so it will be interesting to see how he reacts to Cain. Liddy seems to be good at getting herself into some rather unusual circumstances, though at least it seems she's also learning how to stand and accept her new position given the way she handles things in the market.

While Liddy seems to have come to terms with her engagement if nothing else, it's still rather hilarious to watch her reactions to Prince Freed. Even those around her seem to take her new stance as being unaware of her own feelings for her fiancé, much to the disappointment of at least one individual. Unsure at this point if Will is a convenient side character or may have a larger role further on as it seems he has a rather high position in the court, but he's been distant from Liddy for a while and she's clearly never seen him as more than her "big brother" even if they aren't related. It's hard to read the queen as well, though the king at least seems over the moon with the new developments and meeting Liddy officially. Of course, it seems no interaction is complete with Liddy and Freed without some rather explicit content directions given how their relationship started and why the crown prince was so worried to begin with - the complete opposite of Liddy's worries, though he's done his best to put those to rest rather firmly.

Liddy is determined not to marry royalty, though she's never actually met her fiancé, the crown prince. While she thinks she's found the perfect solution to end her engagement, it seems she may have managed to not only meet her prince but make him even more determined to follow through with their engagement, to the point she now wears a magical symbol that proves they've been together and she's his crown princess. For someone who has two lifetimes of memories to pull on as Liddy also remembers her life as an adult in Japan before waking in this world, she thought she had all the answers, but may instead have managed to only back herself further into a corner.
