Nick is trying to decide where he wants to go to university and what to study for his future while Charlie is still at their old school for another year. Charlie has his own challenges though as he steps into a bit of a spotlight to be the drummer for his friend's band at an outdoor concert and is encouraged to apply for head boy at school. The boys relationship continues to grow closer than ever, though now they have the looming knowledge of being long distance during the school year. Charlie is just as supportive of Nick as Nick is of Charlie, but it's clear neither one of them like the idea of being that far apart for so long.

Charlie's mental health reaches a critical point, forcing some hard changes in his life and their relationship. If anything, Nick really does have is heart in the right place and is trying to help. His mom seems to be really understanding and helpful, while Nick's mom was surprisingly judgmental for a bit there. Of course it's not entirely smooth sailing either as Nick's brother seems to enjoy trying to throw a wrench into everything at the worst possible moment. The side stories at the end are cute, but of course the most pressing question is how Nick's dad reacts to the big reveal, especially given the forced interference to bring it up before Nick was ready to say anything even though everyone else aside from his brother seemed to be supportive.

Wow, talk about a rollercoaster. Nick is handling everything surprisingly well. Aside from his brother, and hid dad apparently not having any time for him, everyone seems to be taking things well overall, too. Sure, there's some gossip, which is unavoidable with teens, but even Harry comes around (a bit late, but at least he's starting to try). Seems Charlie may not even be aware himself of just how deep some of his trauma runs. Doesn't look like Nick is going to let that go if he can find information to help though.

Nick has been doing a lot of studying and soul searching leading to some really hard decisions and some that maybe weren't so hard. It isn't always easy, especially with a group of established friends and knowing you're going against the grain to cut someone out or decide you are now one of the people they are known for mocking and bullying. Takes a certain type of bravery and conviction at minimum. Thankfully, Charlie's family, though they don't all know specifically about the boys, are supportive of Charlie. Now it looks like Nick's family will be equally supportive as well and aren't judging him for being himself. If only every family were that understanding and accepting.

Solid start to the series and can definitely see why it's getting a lot of attention right now. It's slow burn and very mild, but covers a lot of ground with misconceptions and how people do or don't identify with different sexualities as this pair agonize over their own feelings and what they do or don't want out of the relationship. It's rather sweet how they gravitate towards each other and are always helping each other, too. Even knowing their coming from different past experiences and things may or may not work out, though there could be some added angst and potential heartbreak at the end of this one leading into the next installment depending on how it picks up.
