Mufasa: The Lion King (2024)
My rating: 3.5 of 5 stars
In some ways, this is similar to The Lion King 1 1/2 as it's formatted in a retelling format, except it's a story we haven't heard before and done in live action instead of animated. Timon and Pumba are also present as part of the story telling entertainment, but the real story is coming from Rafiki. He tells the tale of how Mufasa became the king of the pride lands, going back to his own days as a cub and how he ended up on an adventure of his own leading to meeting Scar (then known as Taka), Sarabi, and Zazu, all of whom will become foundational characters for the rest of the series. It also makes a lot more sense why Scar has always looked so different from the rest of the lions in the pride lands, as well as where the "outlanders" came from, along with why Scar would have a connection to them. It seems this version also merges the series together better as we're introduced to Kion, though his name isn't shared. It sets up rather nicely why Simba and Nala are away for Rafiki to tell Kiara this tale in the first place.

Things take an interesting turn when the past comes back again, forcing Natsuo to face the beginning of his fears with his omega biology as he's asked to help a small child suspected to also be an omega who has not yet presented. It seems in the process of everything, Tomoya and Natsuo have both figured out Yuya is Natsuo's fated mate, however, Tomoya still loves Natsuo, and Natsuo has accepted his new life with both twins, meaning he has no intention of leaving Tomoya even if he meets his own fated mate along the way. The side story at the end makes it seem like Tomoya's injury is forgotten, when it seems like the hospital is the actual end of the volume. Hopefully Iku will also be safe now that he's returned to his brother and the past doesn't repeat.

Machi seems to have a bit of a questionable past in how he supported himself before his daughter came into his life. It seems he had at least some stable upbringing thanks to his grandmother before his mother came back into the picture and they parted ways. It seems to have been a choice of lifestyle that he never held a job before, causing some concern for his two best friends prior to their deaths. Of course none of his old "wallets" have no interest in supporting him with a kid in tow, and Machi refuses to give Kokoa up. Now at his wits end, the last thing he expected was to run into Mihiro, a former classmate, who is determined to do anything he can to help them. Mihiro has his own hidden reasons for wanting to keep Machi close and wishes they could be together even while telling Machi he should value himself more and that he's not interested in that type of relationship because he doesn't want it to be a transaction, but a real relationship. A few encounters from the past seem to make things clear to Machi fairly quickly, leading to what should be some hard discussions, but all seems to be smooth sailing for these boys.

Tachibana sets up contracts to avoid attachment, while Kuzumi leaves a string of one night stands behind him. Both consider themselves tops, except it seems Kuzumi has a thing for proving tops may truly like to bottom for him instead. There are a lot of reasons this pair should not work out, yet they continue to be drawn together in a very twisted and unusual relationship, making others on their playground rather jealous of their new contract.

Morita is fresh out of college starting at his family's company when his fated mate ends up being the employee sent to pick him up. Matsumoto seems to take things in stride and doesn't blame Morita for his instincts, except he's already married, marked, and wearing a wedding ring. That makes things all the more confusing when these two continue to be drawn together in some rather compromising situations. Morita tries to keep his instincts in check, but can't help finding any flaw possible in Matsumoto's mate as instincts tell him he'd be the better alpha. It's a very different twist on the usual omegaverse dynamic, but still has instinct taking the reigns far too often.

This is not Inés first or second life, but her third life. It is interesting that this life seems to have the highest risk of a similar outcome to her first life given her fiancé's activities, but without the derision of the royal family driving her, she seems to be okay with these choices and resolved herself to essentially not caring so long as they can maintain their freedom. Cárcel seems even more confused by this as he faces facts and resigns himself to finally following through with their engagement to be married. Oddly, it seems the tables may have turned slightly where Cárcel is actively interested in Inés and she is attempting to keep her distance while going through the expected paces of their lives. It will be interesting to see how things change as there is a brief scene in the beginning that appears as if they both are invested in the relationship at some point.

Zed, Addison, and their friends still have a central part in this addition, but it's more in the context of passing the torch to the next generation and helping these new monsters mend their bridges, using their own history and friendship as proof that you don't need to be the same species to get along. There are many parallels in the story and, as always, lots of music. Where the original movie portrayed zombies vs humans, this tells the tale of daywalkers vs vampires, though it would seem they are more similar than they were previous led to believe. It also sets the stage for another installment if the series does indeed continue with yet another unusual occurrence at the end of the film. Fans that have followed the series since the beginning will recognize some of the music as well as there are several references and throw backs to past experiences and songs.

I remember Red was a popular costume choice the year this came out, putting this at nearly a year later that I'm finally getting around to watching this. There was some apprehension about the film given the majority of the original cast is barely even mentioned and largely off screen for this film, leaving the story in the hands of a new generation. The majority of the tale is actually in the past as Red and Chloe set off on an unexpected adventure to try and fix the future before it's too late. As with all of the Descendants movies, the narration at the end leaves the story open to continuation should the creators choose to keep it going. There is a bit of an ominous vibe at the end as well with the warning to essentially be careful what you wish for, though at least for the moment, it would appear that there are many more positive options now open to the future.

Just when we thought the chaos with Kyouhei's mother has settled, she shows up at the cultural festival the same day as his new parents. Nanami thought the most stressful part of the day would be her speech, not running around the festival all day. Add in this new perspective from the class president, and we have the makings for some new fireworks. Despite the challenges and chaos though, if one thing seems to remain, it's the certainty that they don't need to worry about each other (even if they still may not like other's around them for various reasons). Even Andou helps out, though he might just be making it look that way as another reason to avoid his own mother at the festival. Some confusion with the cell phone though as there are repeated notes that the password is missing, but we also see them talking on it to coordinate where everyone is during the festival - oops?

Snow White
Snow White (2025)

There are a lot of small changes to the story here, making it both similar and entirely different from the animated version Disney is already well known for. As with many of the other live action versions, there are some changes that are not as popular with the audience overall. The romance woven in the story is much more believable than the classic prince on a white horse sweeping in to save the day, let alone the queen's ending and what happens to the kingdom in the two versions. Dopey and the dwarfs get a larger part of the story as well, adding a bit of charm, despite Grumpy's vocal complaints. Overall, it was worth seeing it at least once for comparison, but wasn't a favorite that is likely to be at the top of a re-watch list.

It's understandable why there was so much hype leading up to this release. The artwork is incredible and the humor continues very well inline with the original movie, making for a very well done sequel. Secrets, reputations, treasures, and more are on the line as the Bad Guys try to prove they are still good while falling into some unlikely scenarios where their old skills come in more than a little useful. Some new friendships may be strained and put to the test, but this crazy group somehow manages to stay together. The ending is a bit of a surprise, though it plays in well with the rest of the series and leaves enough open that this could end where it is or lead into a new branch of adventure depending on the focus chosen. Even with all the secrets coming out, there may be even more hope than there was in the beginning.

While the title and indications are that this is meant to be the end of the MI movie series, the ending is along the same vein of all the other endings where it could continue in the future, though likely with some changes given allegiances that are tested and damages the team takes in the course of the mission. As usual, there is lots of action and seeming impossible situations that must be navigated to try and achieve their goals with the mission before they run out of time. In this case, stakes are higher than ever with earth's destruction and/or a new world war on the verge of breaking out if a different alternative can't be found to stop the Entity and save the world. Any one of the close calls in this film could have gone very wrong, and some certainly did, leaving some unlikely allies and unexpected decisions along the line as trust is tested and time is running out.

That resolved things rather quickly, then followed to jump to the future by leaps and bounds, so it's impossible to tell exactly how much time has passed between some of the parts of the story. Fortunately, Noah doesn't seem phased by Raeliana's history, and if anything, seems more determined to write their own story. Sir Taylor also remains as stoic as ever while still oddly dedicated to Noah and Raeliana, which Noah seems to now enjoy bending to his benefit when Raeliana leaves without him for a period of time, planned or not. It's rather touching with the indication that the two may now be linked through multiple lives to find the happy ever after they made for themselves instead of what was previous planned in the original book. Thankfully, the powers that be seem to like Raeliana and Noah's version of the story, too.

Hunt continues to end up in insane scenarios where missions never go as planned and he must beat death defying odds to achieve MIF's goals. Of course it's not an MI adventure without a girl to protect and enemies coming from multiple directions, including sometimes from within their own ranks. More than one familiar face returns from previous films. It's amazing the number of stunts they manage to come out of in one piece, let alone survive at the end of the day. Unlike many of the other movies, this ends on a clear cliff hanger note, where the mission is not entirely over yet, and it's clear there is still more to come tying directly into the narrative and next steps set out in this film chasing the AI Entity. It's an unusual type of ending, but makes sense especially to those watching it after the last film was released in 2025. It may even have more of a ring at this day and age given the increased AI movements across tech and increasing platforms to support such functions online.

Takahide starts out being insanely jealous of Amano, but how could she expect the series of events him catching her watching would entail. For all of his genius, Amano is truly innocent and naive when it comes to love, not that Takahide is much better with her focus on her academic studies. Somehow, what starts off as a game keeps spiraling and growing. It seems perhaps there's something there after all, especially given the rather touching moments with the school festival. While Amano has decided to take things at Takahide's pace and not push her boundaries anymore, it seems maybe Takahide actually wants to test those boundaries after all.

The progress may be slow, but the story is hilarious. Fiene sees things so differently from others, that it's no wonder she manages to charm so many once they get to know her. The events at the laboratory are also surprising, though perhaps gives her a good in to no longer remain as lonely as her childhood. Mr. Ghost remains an interesting bystander as well, checking on Fiene and trying to encourage her, though it seems she's determined at this point to stay on her path. We're left with a large cliff hanger at the end of this volume as the Ice Mage and the Daybreak Witch come face to face again for the first time since she rescued him (at leas that one of them is aware of). It becomes clearer as time goes on that Fiene's abilities really aren't the norm, just like her unique view on life and the comforts most tend to crave.

She even still refers to her instructor and friend as "Mr. Ghost", though there are a few clues as to who he was in life. Curious that even the ice mage and his teacher don't seem to see him when he follows Fiene around during the reception, though they are renowned magic users on their own. There's a bit of a unique twist here as well given the identity of the Daybreak Witch. It will be interesting to see just how long her secret remains intact or if any other changes take place as this main couple learn about each other and their shared history as they now at least partially walk a path together as a new family, even if currently it is only intended to be for convenience alone.

Hime is still stirring up trouble, and may be able to do even more damage with the coupe than originally anticipated. Fortunately, Anise and Lector seem to have made at least a few allies, including the previous prince, though he seems to have a natural weakness to Hime that could be concerning. Rather than the ex-prince, it seems this general may be the larger threat. Not sure what Lector is up to that will prevent the fireworks from starting, but given past history, even if it's cutting it close, he'll do anything and everything he can to help Anise. It's also rather hilarious to hear Anise openly discuss her previous world with Lector, though it's one thing many isekai series are lacking that may be a relief as she can truly be herself with someone she trusts and cares for.

The CIA seems to cause more trouble than be of any help when it comes to MIF and Hunt's operations, which is not helped at all by suspicions fed into the organization suspecting him as the leader of the very Apostles he has been trying to take down. We see some unexpected characters come back to the main screen, and plenty of tight situations that seem impossible. Even the CIA has to admit MIF has a purpose at the end, especially once they realize just how far Hunt will go to save those he cares for - a heart and purpose that it seems many in these intelligence agencies are lacking.

The CIA seems to cause more trouble than be of any help when it comes to MIF and Hunt's operations, which is not helped at all by suspicions fed into the organization suspecting him as the leader of the very Apostles he has been trying to take down. Bibliophile Princess 1 (Light Novel)

This has been on my TBR pile for awhile now as I enjoyed both the manga and the anime. As is usual with most series that have all 3 of these media formats, much more ground is covered in one light novel than in a manga volume or anime episode. This volume takes us entirely through the engagement concerns that kick off the series through the festival and meeting the Roma. Roughly through volume 3 of the manga if memory serves. Even more of Eli's thoughts and point of views are clearer in this form as the story is told from her viewpoint. The one viewpoint that we don't get as much from, is from Prince Christopher's, though it's still clear in his interactions and words to Eli that he adores her beyond belief.

Marvel Cinematic Universe 36: The Fantastic Four [First Steps]

I was careful to avoid spoilers before watching this, so other than family members informing me that they really enjoyed the movie, I didn't know what to expect going in. I had suspected more of a tie-in with the current MCU universe given the ending of Thunderbolts* with the rocket, but this has an old-time feel while still having advanced technology for the Fantastic Four, which is an interesting combination. Shalla-Bal as the Silver Surfer instead of Norrin Radd is also an interesting choice. Curious if we'll see both Silver Surfers at some point in the future or if this token will be the only nod to this part of the franchise given the previous Silver Surfer film, though it was not nearly as well done in terms of the world building overall. The adaptation of Ben's beard is also hilarious and not something that has been considered in previous film variations. On a whole, this was a lot more true to the same feel as the original comic books, and even kept the origin story much the same, while still moving things along. Johnny is even toned down a bit so while he's still more flighty and a charmer, he's much more focused on his family and doing something rather than just playing all the time, which is a drastically improved attitude for his character, though you'll still get plenty of banter between Johnny and Ben especially. The cameo for Doctor Doom at the ending was also iconic and a fun easter egg for those who look up the uncredited cast of the film. Hopefully it doesn't change for the next full length feature if we see Doom step onto the stage more fully as that would be a fun win for the entire MCU fandom.

I read this all as one novel that seems to go to the end of the story, so I'm unsure where the novel numbers listed on this site coordinate with that release. Regardless, there is a very in-depth world building and Navier, the main character, is a unique portrayal all on her own. What kills the story for me is her multiple beaus and especially her original husband. Sovieshu really does have the perfect life at the start of it all, and his simple infatuation with a servant who manages to use and abuse him and any little bit of power she get her hands on, manages to ruin everything. There is some satisfaction to Rashta's part of the tale, though Glorym situation could be seen for better or worse. It's interesting how deeply events trigger Sovieshu, and a bit curious that he manages to build things back up to at least be civil enough to be so familiar with the twins.
At least Navier seems to find her happily ever after, as the character who most deserves it. With the stories regarding the infertility potential and later births, it is curious if there is any credence to that story or if it was always made up. It seems it could go either way, as the same surprise that gifts Navier her ice could also be responsible for the twins, especially given how attached Navier and Heinrey are in the future, but they don't seem to have any more children.
It seems like perhaps there was some indecision about how to end the story or if it was the right choice as we end up with several alternate endings or "universes" as the mage explains to Sovieshu. It's a bit disturbing as in each version, there seems to be some way that Sovieshu still ends up with a child with someone other than Navier, and we never hear anything of Navier's ending or any children from the main pair. It seems like perhaps Sovieshu should have learned to be happy with what he had, and settled with Glorym instead of agonizing over everything else. At least then he may not have spiraled into such drastic madness, and Navier would still have her happy ending, too.

This series was recommended to us after watching NCIS: Los Angeles, as everyone thoroughly enjoyed the character Hetty. While the actress does have a cameo is this series, it is a very minor role. This is still thoroughly enjoyable and different than many series. Scorpion is a team of brainiacs that don't fit the mold of standard society, except for Paige and Cabe. Cabe acts as their government link, providing intel and coverage to their operations so they don't always end up on the wrong side of the law. Paige helps them find their humanity and emotions in the midst of all the equations and probabilities constantly running through their heads. On the flip side, the team helps Paige understand her son, who is a genius like the rest of the team. Sometimes it seems like they approach things in a rather chaotic and confusing manner, but as always with their intelligence, there is some sort of logic underlaying their calculations and actions. That doesn't guarantee everything always goes as planned, but somehow, they manage to get the job done.

Yelena is a central character in this movie, though she doesn't have an alter ego like the rest of the Thunderbolts or the Avengers. It's clear that she's not satisfied with her current life and still misses her sister. Similar to Natasha, they may have been trained as assassins since childhood, but there's a gentleness and clear heart in these sisters that goes against their training. Similarly, Yelena finds herself in a rather unique family situation, though it's clear sometimes she's so embarrassed by them, she may wish she was back on her own. It sounds like there may be some conflict with their claiming the title as the new Avengers, even though they themselves were not the ones who initially made that declaration. It will be interesting to see how things evolve and if de Fonte will continue to be a concern or if her new public image will keep her inline with the team's own agenda, though that may be difficult to maintain. Most of the team seems to be fairly level headed, except Alexei, who seems unusually obsessed with his past as a super soldier and his new "team." Bob also claims that the power comes with a specific identity and point of view, so he may remain the odd civilian hanging out with the team, or maybe there is more than he knows to his abilities that might allow him to regain some control. It's also relatively easy to tell where we are in the series if you pay attention to the narrative as they discuss both Sam's possession of "the shield" and the Red Hulk from the last movie.

For anyone only following the movies that has not seen The Falcon & The Winter Soldier, this is the first time we see Mackie pick up the shield on the big screen instead of Evans. There's a lot of action packed in and more than a few easter eggs, but if you haven't followed the series so far, watchers may be more than a little lost in the subtext. As an action film, it is engaging, but it doesn't seem to have as much of a story that it's telling. There are a few hints, especially at the end, for anyone paying attention, which makes sense especially following films like The Multiverse of Madness. It would seem the multiverse is here to stay with the popularity and ongoing references, which opens up a lot of possibilities for the series.

Perhaps because this is a TV series rather than just a movie, this is able to go into far more detail than the original adaptation was able to. Even with the additional details and expanded cast, it isn't able to put much of a dent into the original story. Even with a good deal of adaptation in this version as well, there is a lot more that goes into this world building and the number of characters that get far more screentime and information than in other versions. It somehow even manages to make Tatiana seem more vicious than in the original books, though she hides it well to the majority of of those around her. Unfortunately, given the time since this original aired, it seems unlikely to return for the rest of the story, though it does leave off at a very well positioned point in the story with a mix of resolution and cliff hanger. Rose is also a bit different overall, especially as they learn about the effects of spirit, but it works well with this version of the story.

The story is a little difficult to follow, but that seems to be because of how complex it is and these overlapping abilities and stories. Klein Moretti is actually Zhou Mingrui, though he is not entirely clear on how he ended up in this life. He sets off on a rather unusual quest to gain power and solve this mystery as well as many others as a Beyonder. While originally his quest was to return to his original world, he seems to come to appreciate the world he is in and the connections he has made, which makes the ending of this season even more confusing on a whole. It is also interesting how even from the beginning, he seems to be set apart from these other Beyonders in "the grey". It feels like there is a lot more going on here and the story may not be entirely finished, but most likely would need to look to the original source material for those answers and any additional information to the complexities they face in the donghua.

Haruta didn't expect stumbling across a catboy on the street who promptly steals his lunch to turn into raising it, though truthfully it's not really by his choice. There's a lot of screaming and misunderstandings along the way, but it seems like Haruto does adjust to this odd new life. Meanwhile, just about everyone around him is enamored with this catboy in one or both forms, though it's rather hilarious when they are startled or scared by his changes. Overall, it's a good laugh, but lacks a lot of substance and has a serious series of consent issues along with some other illegalities thanks to a certain professor that keeps having to be reigned in.

Elio is an orphan living with his aunt, however all he dreams about is space. Through a series of crazy events, his dream comes true and he find a whole new universe. There are more than a few lessons learned along the way, including finding his first real friend. Turns out, maybe he has some good things back home as well, and so does his friend as they both start out running away for very different reasons. Overall, it's enjoyable, but also not anything amazing or remarkable, especially when held up against other Pixar/Disney big hits.

Natsuo hates being an omega even though they are currently protected even by the government due to their dwindling numbers. The last thing he expects then is to find not just one fated mate, but two as they are twin brothers. While the brothers are clearly close, they don't appear to have any personal relationship other than the relationship they both have together with Natsuo. Even then, it's an unusual relationship to say the least. Natsuo's mother may be the most surprising character in this world building given her original situation in the hospital before she meets the "big brothers". Yuya and his brother Tomoya seem to be very successful alphas and care not just for Natsuo, but his family as well, which sounds like it could be unusual given the status of omega care laws and the lengths they go to even though they all often fall to their own natures (including Natsuo) to try and put him more at ease.

This is just as confusing as the first volume as it seems to try and move things along at a fast pace while also trying to keep the characters stuck in the same mindset and challenges as the first volume. It's unclear at this stage if Sotetsu has really accepted this contract he has with Mozu or if it was just a temporary truce as the results of the circumstances they were in. It seems like there may be a lot more history regarding Sotetsu's mother and possibly why so many in the Blood Market seem to think she's still around - or at least her blood may be.

It's hard to tell at this point if this point of view is helped or made even worse when Mozu takes an interest in Sotetsu, and even joins the Bureau, following Sotetsu around constantly while also simultaneously causing his own brand of trouble trying to get his way. It's clear both of them have drastically different outlooks from their relative positions. With all of the taunting and complaining, this makes the end of this volume even more surprising as it appears to tie the two even closer together for the long term.

Surprisingly, this resurgence of this series is still going strong with this latest addition. Time has moved on enough that dinosaurs are largely back to being forgotten outside of no-travel zones where the majority that still survive live, surroundings the island where the mutations who weren't deemed good enough for public viewing at the parks are housed. It's been long enough now that we have a new cast heading out for research, though anyone familiar with the series won't be expecting all of them to return home. Half of the group intentional head to the restricted zone on a mission to collect DNA from three colossal dinosaurs in the hopes that this DNA will hold the key to needed heart medication for the human race. The other half of the group consists of a small family and a lazy boyfriend caught out at sea. While the group starts off as rather cutthroat and out for their own benefits, it seems there's more than a few good ones mixed in with all that ambition. Of course, it isn't a Jurassic movie without a t-rex, too.

It's a good thing Iris already planned on coming clean to the village head, but that may not be enough to avoid all suspicion as she seems to trip up more and more often falling back on memories of her past now that they've reached the hidden village. Curious if things will go so well with this spiritual spring and the latest fight that has broken out, though at least it seems that Prince Alvin's previous queen may not be the obstacle she may have been - at least if she is truly as enamored of Iris as she seems, just like everyone else.

This Marquis Leicester could have caused a lot of trouble indeed had his plan worked. It's sad for Princess Fiona, as it seems like he is a relative on her mother's side, but also seems to thoroughly shatter his delusions and will to continue his plots. Between this and Iris' aiding Princess Fiona and her advisors in avoiding other disasters, she seems to have won even more favor. Still, for all that everyone she meets seems to adore her and cling to her, Prince Alvin continues to be rebuffed in the most hilarious manners.

It took awhile to get around to watching this, but glad to have finally caught up. In some ways this follows the classic Superman lore a lot, and even introduces Krypto, Supergirl's dog. Supergril also makes a brief cameo, but is nothing like previous series have portrayed her thus far. There is a lot of mixing with the Justice Gang (replacing the previously well known Justice League in the DC fandom). It's rather hilarious recognizing some of the actors in the series, especially Green Lantern, as this is very different casting from previous iterations. There is a fair bit of humor mixed in, but a lot of high impact content, leaving this version with a mix of emotions that overall are enjoyable, but could turn the other way - especially as we seem to see a lot of the "Man of Steel" not being so invincible after all. The addition of the robots are also an oddity, especially against the name "Fortress of Solitude."

It seems there may be more going on that is easy to keep track of with all of this knowledge of different abilities and the battle with the East Star taking place. We learn a lot about Saphir and Louis in this volume, especially in connection with the East Star and Daryl. This leads to further connections with the charm Luciana is under and how she came to find the purple animal that she now recognizes as Conrad. Lakas also has some competition now as Joshua claims Luciana is equally important to him now as she is to Lakas. After seeing Saphir taken away by the East Star, it seems things may be in motion even more than they originally realized as they rush to save their friend while still trying to connect the pieces to protect Luciana and her identity. Surprisingly, the only one not to go along on their rushed quest is the eldest Wisteria brother, though this seems to be more due to an inability of his brothers to wake him than not wanting to be part of the action.

There are more than a few surprises in this book, including a rather big revelation as to why the story may have changes so drastically from the beginning of this arc. Prince Rembrandt still seems to have difficulty understanding certain boundaries, but it's clear this world is just different enough from Shera's memories to be for the best. She goes from terrified and convinced she's barely avoiding pain to a true happily ever after. It seems the entire royal family may luck out, though none of them seem to have the same impeccable timing consistently with a certain rare flower as Rembrandt does.

Lector and Anise are making the best of things as usual, but that doesn't mean they are out of the woods. The ups and downs with the villagers are dizzying to keep track of, and not helped really by the obsession the priest sent with them appears to be harboring. While Lector may appear a little too charming sometimes, it's clear that he truly does adore Anise and she has learned to trust him in return. At least the infirmary seems to be doing well, though it will be interesting to see how things go with whoever replaces the priest given the current state of things at the palace. In all likeliness, there are far more obstacles for them to face in the future, especially if they ever hope to escape Hime's scheming.

This is okay as sequels go and does have a cute ending, but remains just as confusing when it comes to who is who and what school they fight for. On multiple occasions it seems like the truth will finally come out, but when it finally does, things backfire as feared. Fortunately, that's not the end, though it is rather odd that they continue to fight and claim opposite sides of their territory while also still wanting to be together - that's a rather awkward and fine line to try and walk together. It's also rather hilarious how one side seems to know everything in the end, while the other still thinks their leader has a girlfriend. At least they're attempting to be supportive?

How To Train Your Dragon (2025)

This is the live action remake of the original animated movie (though that is also based on a book series). The dragons are especially well done, which is good as Toothless remains a pivotal character in the movie. There are definite highlight moments in the movie, and overall it follows the animated movie very closely, making it more enjoyable for fans of the original series. Some of the line changes don't make much sense or are delivered in a very deadpan tone however, which lessens the acting rating in comparison. Still enjoyable and glad we finally watched it, but it won't outrank the animated series in terms of favorites.

This is the live action version of the original Lilo & Stitch animated movie. There are some rather obvious changes to the story, especially when it comes to interactions between Lilo and Nani. While there were rumblings about the changes from the fan community when it first came out, truthfully they are far more believable and fitting to the storyline than the original version. This wouldn't be possible without Tutu though, who also is a new highlight in this version of the story. All in all, this keeps up a high energy through the entire movie and has a lot of good learnings with highlight scenes mixed in.

Despite this, things quickly turn back to the wedding and spin off from there to a new adventure with a lot of history for Philia. Her new friendships prove more than a little helpful here as well as this tight timeline would never have been possible without Ezra and Mammon. We learn a lot more about Philia's parents and extended family in this volume, even giving some unexpected closure to many of those around her. Mia seems to come into her own as well, though she refuses to take credit for her own deeds and continues to praise her older sister. There are several touching scenes between Philia and Prince Osvalt as well, leading up to their big wedding. It's a fitting conclusion to the series with a lot of rather significant changes as the characters have grown, especially for Philia.

I started this series a long time ago and remember the ghost scene at the beginning setting off some lingering paranoia from Attack on Titan, so I never finished it. Now having seen both seasons, this is a complex and beautifully drawn story with a lot of subtle underlying tones. Xie Lian has ascended to heaven three times, which is unusual in itself. Instead of being banished quickly, he is sent on a mission that it seems no one wants to deal with but needs to be taken care of. He doesn't expect this to also kick off a strange and unusual attachment with one of the four demon kings. If anything, this series left me finally wanting more, which may be just the right draw to finally get through the novels just in time before the comics begin publishing as well.

Kanade and Mashiro continue to have their ups and downs as they navigate living together, but fortunately mostly seem to be up. Kanade's family seems to have warmed up, not that he's talked to his father directly it seems, but he does get a little worked up when Mashiro doesn't come home and stays over with a friend one night. They get to make even more memories together though as Kanade's friends help set him up unintentionally at the start for Mashiro to be his knight in shining armor. Add that to their first trip together, and it's an adorable bit of fluff with just enough of real life conflict to keep it interesting.

I remember starting this series several years ago, but am unable to recall if I ever finished it, and doubtful I had watched the following seasons continuing the story. It has since been recommended multiple times in the original light normal format, and now has a color manhua release as well, lending to the series popularity. With all of this combined, and my daughter's own interest, it seemed time to pick this story back up again. The story itself is a little difficult to follow as it is very complex and pulls many clans together. In reality, the story mostly follows Wei Wuxian as he rediscovers life and the new trials of the cultivation clans. Perhaps reading the novels would give a clearer understanding, especially as the start of season 2 appears to take us back to the beginning of the original series, so it is difficult to tell if it is truly a continuation, a different point of view, or something else entirely at this stage.

Normally, I don't rate seasons separately unless they appear under different titles, however, the change in this story is so drastic that it needs a separate opinion. The art in the original animation was beautifully done, leading to an amusing and unusual courtship between the main characters. This new season picks up directly at the end of the last one, except the art is in a 3D style, and instead of the gentle story we had before, we have random riff offs, character dances, and the most cringe worth heart kisses complete with total NPC bad acting an movements that can make you cry (and not in a good way). Honestly I couldn't make it past the first episode with the sheer volume of cringe, changes in the art, and different character designs. Unsure if it may get better later on, but it's really hard to imagine with just how badly this deviates all around.

This tale seems to be adapted from a live action drama rather than usual printed variety that is common. With little to go off of other than that it was recommended along with several other series that I've thoroughly enjoyed, there wasn't much expectation or knowledge going into this series. The intro itself is hilarious, with upbeat music and silly dances to catch the watcher's eye before the story even unfolds. Qian Yun Xi is considered an outcast among her family, sent to live in the mountains due to her unusual abilities until it is convenient for the family to summon her back in order to take her sister's place in an arranged marriage with Prince Ye Youming. Given Prince Ye is part of the opposite faction as Qian's father, it isn't too surprising then that neither part seem too pleased with this arranged marriage and want nothing to do with each other - to the point they don't even recognize each other when they meet outside the palace. Ye is convinced that his new wife must be a spy for her previous family... that is, if she really is that good of an actress while also somehow being a constant surprise and somewhat childish at the same time. With the exception of Beauty Chu, who grips her position as the favored concubine and headmistress of the Ye Palace with an iron first, it's little wonder the rest of the royal family and those who get to know the new princess are taken by her charm and unique perspective.

This has been a long time coming, but the art is gorgeous. So far, the story seems to follow the written publication fairly well, though of course there are small adjustments for the media source to keep the story flowing and engaging. Anthy truly is adorable, though sometimes a little clueless. While it is clear that Anthy knows her "fate" in the beginning, her previous life and the reason why she can pick up on things so quickly at her young age is glossed over very quickly. If a watcher hadn't read the book, they most likely would think that Anthy just happens to have these dreams that forewarn her and show her the story of how her life is to play out rather than that she had read the story in a previous life. Regardless of that rather dramatic change, the interactions between Anthy and her caretakers are adorable, as are the interactions she has with Claude, even if she is still terrified of making him angry at the cost of her own life.

With this release, we're catch up to the end of volume 7 of the light novels. As with the other books, it's interesting to see the story art form and the expressions from the characters directly rather than just imagining the scenes based on the text. The pace may be a little faster too given the amount of content to fit into a different format rather than in text. Still, it seems evident that everything works out for their benefit and Sei manages to fit right in, though she may not always be as cautious as she should be when it comes to sharing information. Fortunately, she always has a rather happy escort at her side to help protect her and avoid the vendors from discovering that Sei is their Saint. Hopefully it won't be too long before the next volume comes out to continue this story.

Liddy ends up in another unexpected situation, but it seems like her rose may have more benefits than even they realized when Freed manages to show up just in time. It's not too surprising then, that the last thing the two want is to be separated, even though they're mostly willing to go with the status quo. It seems Freed does have some idea about Cain and the protection he may be providing for Liddy, though Cain does not yet want to leave his shadows and conveniently is too far away when things happen at the start of this volume. It seems there may be an even larger plot to steal Liddy away, not that she has any desire or intention to leave Freed.
