Blood Night Market 3 by Chise Ogawa

This is still a very confusing series, but it sounds like it may also be resolved at this point. It turns out the blood market and the blood control bureau's purpose wasn't actually what it was portrayed to be for so long. Even those working with the director thought they were working towards a goal for everyone, when in reality there was only one individual the director was planning for. Even with some of the opponents from the earlier volumes showing up again, they don't make things difficult for Mozu and Sotetsu again, though they very easily could have given the odds. Things don't go according to Mozu's plans either, but it turns out there may be more to the story of these two than just obsession and the tree.

This is just as confusing as the first volume as it seems to try and move things along at a fast pace while also trying to keep the characters stuck in the same mindset and challenges as the first volume. It's unclear at this stage if Sotetsu has really accepted this contract he has with Mozu or if it was just a temporary truce as the results of the circumstances they were in. It seems like there may be a lot more history regarding Sotetsu's mother and possibly why so many in the Blood Market seem to think she's still around - or at least her blood may be.

Not entirely sure what I expected going into this series, but it didn't turn out as expected at all. Sotetsu has a very high moral compass while at the same time essentially hating himself and both wanting and denying any interest in being part of the blood market outside of his role in the Blood Control Bureau. It's hard to tell at this point if this point of view is helped or made even worse when Mozu takes an interest in Sotetsu, and even joins the Bureau, following Sotetsu around constantly while also simultaneously causing his own brand of trouble trying to get his way. It's clear both of them have drastically different outlooks from their relative positions. With all of the taunting and complaining, this makes the end of this volume even more surprising as it appears to tie the two even closer together for the long term.
