Finally finished the trilogy as a whole. Cat can't seem to get a break. Glad she survived a tornado on top of everything else. Add in a Mexican detective hot on Cat's trail and Jimmy Franks still gunny for Wilson; it's a miracle these two get any peace. For awhile there, it looked like Cat was going to lose everything once again, but that certainly wouldn't be the happy ending all the readers wanted. After all, she's already down 4 out of 9 lives. One of those has to have a happier ending sooner or later.

Had to re-read this as I finally got around to reading the other two books, so it made sense to go in order this time around and refresh my memory. This was just as captivating the second time around as it was the first. Wilson and Cat are an interesting combination, though much of this book sees the two of them apart on separate jobs rather than working together. The draw between them is blatant however, and it is very fortunate for Cat that she could call Wilson at the end of her task. Definitely starting to see the softer side of Cat in this one, especially once we meet baby Maria. Who knew the tough as nails bounty hunter could be so maternal? It's definitely not easy for these two between Cat's mission and the Franks brothers out for revenge.

Some errors in this book, just like the last. In the first book it's the contradictions on Wilson's age. This time around, the books end references Jimmy Houston still hunting Wilson. However, it is Jimmy & Houston Franks that are the brothers stalking him. Even then, Houston doesn't have half the drive to go after Wilson that Jimmy does.

It's been awhile since I've read one of Sharon Sala's books, though I remember loving Cut Throat and thinking I really needed to read the rest of the Cat Dupree series at the time. Cat is different in the fact that she's not all good or all bad, but she is definitely tough and has reason to be. You can't help but feel bad for her as her story unravels while she hunts for her best friend's killer. I do think she takes it a little too far claiming that Mimi was her only "family" left though as it's obvious she's closer to Art and some of her father's old friends than she'd like to admit. That doesn't even bring Wilson into the picture - she's going to find it's a lot harder to get rid of him than tracking down these bail skippers.
