Pout-Pout Fish: Christmas Spirit

Pout-Pout Fish: Christmas Spirit by Deborah Diesen

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

As the name might imply, the pout-pout fish is usually rather gloomy. He doesn't want to be though, and goes in search of his own Christmas Spirit. In the process of trying to find it, he brings his friends together and helps some others who needed a does of Christmas Spirit as well. A rather simple story to highlight the intended theme of giving for the holiday season, even if it's something as deceptively simple as a little holiday spirit and cheer.

You Can Make a Friend, Pout-Pout Fish!

You Can Make a Friend, Pout-Pout Fish! by Deborah Diesen

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This is a short and simple early reader book focusing on the pout-pout fish. Instead of his usually pouting though, this story is about how Mr. Fish chooses not to pout and instead goes out of his way to be kind and make new friends, so his first day of school ends better than it started.

The Pout-Pout Fish Goes to School

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This was one my daughter wanted to put back but I insisted on picking up at only $1 resale. I'd heard good things about the book, especially for at the start of the school year. My daughter, and oldest child, is in preschool now but will start kindergarten next year, which I expect to be an entirely different kettle of fish. This, along with The Kissing Hand will be our big reads getting ready for the new school years. Good lessons in both that are very applicable and spot on given they are written specifically about school for young children.
