It's been a long time since I read this series. Honestly, I'd forgotten about it until I noticed the title on my to-read list. I wouldn't say it's as engaging as some of Cabot's other series that I've really enjoyed, but it is still a good read. The twist on mythology is different than anything else I've come across so far. There are definitely a lot of moving pieces and a lot of twists to this story as it unravels. It doesn't really feel like it ended, though I suppose a somewhat peaceful break in events with things looking up is as good a way to end a series as any.

The Mediator 7: Remembrance by Meg Cabot

I remember first reading this series back in high school and loving it. It's nice to come back to it as an adult with the characters also having grown up to... or not. Suze still portrays a lot of childishness and temper qualities that got her in trouble in the original series - including her penchant for lying when it comes to one Paul Slater. Really, did she not learn anything back in high school? Jesse nearly goes off the deep end a bit too between the photographer and Paul's constant propositioning. In the end, everything goes as it should and Jesse proves that he has more remaining from his ghost days than he ever let on before. The triplets were a bit out of left field, but they certainly gave Suze the leverage she needed over Paul. Hopefully that's yet another secret that doesn't blow up in her face. Things certainly will stay interesting with this couple.

I remember first finding and loving this series near the end of High School. Coming back to it with this short novella was a lot of fun. Jesse and Suze are still cute and funny, while Suze's favorite "stalker" is still as creepy as ever. The title turns out to have a bit of a double meaning between Suze's latest ghost problem and her personal relationship. Of course the more personal turn is something readers have been longing for since the original series was first published, and even more-so since the more recent additions. The teaser for the next book leaves a lot of possibilities and turmoil out on the table as well. Obviously things can never be easy for our favorite pair. Hopefully they've both learned something after surviving college and establishing careers. Guess we'll have to wait and see how things turn out between them, the house/curse, and Paul.

This was a cute piece of fluff between Jesse and Susannah. Of course, it wouldn't be complete without another ghost showing up in the middle of everything. It's been a long time since I read this series, but I remember thoroughly enjoying it back then. Makes me want to pull the books back out again for a re-read.

Sequel to the self-titled first book of the series, Abandon. There's a lot of deception and beating around the bush in this one. Slightly amusing how Kayla thinks they're all vampires towards the end, especially given the plethora of vampire series out lately and the fact that Cabot's other most recent series, Insatiable, is based on vampires. Also interesting the loose weaving of the underworld mythology, especially after having just read the Goddess Summoning series by P.C. Cast, which is much more focused and saturated with the myths. Definitely more the young adult genre here as pretty much everything is watered down compared to it's similar counterparts, or at least any that come to mind that I've browsed so far.

The first few chapters had me feeling very skeptical of this book as it jumped back and forth from past to present as it filled in the blanks and fleshed the story out. By the time most of the pieces were in place however, I would have to admit to somewhat grudgingly cheering for John against the Furies. A very big cliff hanger at the end, it's somewhat of a relief to already know this is the first installment of a trilogy. Admittedly at this point I am very much looking forward to the next book before deciding how much I end up loving or hating the series.

Overall I have to say I was rather disappointed with this series. I really liked Lucian/Meena, so the fact that he has to die at the end and she conveniently goes trotting off with Alaric as if nothing was wrong and it's destiny or something really felt cheap. Here Meena is fighting both sides of a war herself trying to redeem Lucian so they can be together and she gives up like he's yesterday's news? I'm sorry, but people don't get over real heartbreak just like that. Lucian had a lot of potential as well, so the fact that he's kept around and interesting just to martyr him is more than disappointing. So while it was still a decent read, I can't say I love the series like I have some of Cabot's other works.
