Philia is up against the crown prince in her desire to save her sister Mia as the monster strike is imminent and they learn the barrier can only be expanded where there is enough power to anchor it, but there is no such anchor in Girtonia. Fortunately, Prince Osvalt remains on Philia's side as always and is happy to dive into battle with her. In the meantime, Mia has set the stage for Prince Julius' downfall with the aid of Prince Ferdinand, and even the king enters the stage. The king looks far younger in this rendition than expected, especially given his illness. Like Prince Osvalt's attention to Philia, Prince Ferdinand also excels at reading Mia and understanding what is at stake. Comparatively speaking, this volume still leaves us around the first light novel as Philia has yet to learn the extent of events that Mia has uncovered in their homeland.

His Sensual Whisper: The Voice That Sets Me On Fire 2 by Pyoko Asahina

Mizuho and Hibino end up working on a project together that takes them to the office where Hibino had previously transferred back from. At first, it looks like some jealous sparks may fly, and they do both have their moments, but it seems people are catching on that the two are together, even at work, and they do work very well together. Hibino is surprisingly not only committed, which he proves unexpectedly when he goes out for drinks with his coworker, but is thinking much further into the future, even though girls demanding such things from him before is what he had claimed he disliked about relationships. We even get to meet Mizuho's cousin and her parents in this episode after their work trip, which gives us some insights into the couple other than just when they're going at it like rabbits (though there's plenty of that as well). There are hints of more new things to come in the future, so this doesn't feel like an ending just yet, and is a relief to see there's a third installment planned later in the year.

Dardan may have been dealt with in a rather surprising manor, and the teens may have returned to their school life, but that doesn't mean all answers are there. There is also still a lot of animosity between the vampires and werewolves due to their blood rather than just their competitive schools, which isn't surprising given the way they grew up, but is still rather hilarious given the way everyone still fawns over Sooha. Even wolves that have never met her before are making things a tad awkward with all the devotion. At least everyone seems okay with Sooha and Heli, not that anyone seems to be leaving them any time alone since they're always flocking around Sooha. With that being said, who is this new girl that shows up at the end and what does she mean by Sooha taking her place? She looks like the past version of Selen especially with her eye color, but how could everything at the blood altar take place and everyone be drawn to Sooha if she was not actually the princess? Opens a rather large can of worms without any sign of a resolution as this is the last volume in the series.

There's never a dull moment, with constant fights and discoveries as they figure out where the Blood Altar is and recover more of their memories. While the wolves don't have the same memories, Khan at least seems to be piecing some things together with his own visit, just as Sooha and Heli especially seem to be seeing the most of their past memories overall. Dardan continues to be a major thorn and obstacle to everyone's safety, though for as many times as it has seemed like he's had the upper hand, he hasn't actually been able to kill any of the main group yet. Heli has a good point as well, wondering why the symbol on his hand is glowing even after supposedly losing his powers. Given how dire things are, hopefully freeing the wolves will bring the reinforcements needed, especially since Khan should be somewhere in that mix. A little surprised that he wasn't on the altar with Sooha, Dardan, and Marge though we briefly saw him on the altar previously - just where did Khan disappear to?

It's not surprising that these new wolves who have been held captive and never met Sooha are more than a little sceptical when it comes to her abilities and Heli's claims regarding their past. When they're in danger though, they prove to be rather good allies and not so concerned with bloodline as just their survival. It's too bad that those who know Heli's group better and are more familiar with Sooha haven't spoken up more, especially as Khan is meant to be their leader, to pull the groups together. There is far more danger when the groups are split, as evident by this latest attack and what they are up against. Dardan also seems to be getting desperate with his latest attack and his musings about how to stop Sooha and claim all of her power before she can give it to her knights. They have the sword, and they're learning more along the way, but that won't be enough if they can't make it in time to stop Dardan.

We get a lot more information on the past with several flashbacks in this volume. Heli especially seems to have a rather significant role to play, similar to Khan on the werewolf side. There is also some indication that perhaps the two races were not always enemies as they now believe, though this "first vampire" seems to be up to no good on both sides. It will be interesting when Sooha wakens if she remembers anything, be it from the past or current events that are taking place and she seems to be aiding in. Dardan seems to be under the impression that she's remembering the past, which would make some sense as it's hard to believe he wouldn't do something if he was aware she was somehow helping Heli and his brothers. Hopefully the two groups will meet up soon and be able to work together rather than fighting each other, especially while they share a common goal in saving Sooha and stopping Dardan.

It's unclear why this character looks so much like Chris, but perhaps it is some consolation he is not who they originally thought he was, especially for Sooha, though there are still more questions than answers. A lot is revealed about both the boys and Sooha, though Sooha herself does not know any of this information yet, nor do the werewolves, though it looks like they may be fighting the same battle after all. While Sooha's connection to the boys is clearer, it remains unclear why the wolves also seem to be so drawn to her, perhaps even mores o given her connection appears to be to the vampire side of their rivalry. Hopefully the boys will be able to find Sooha in time, and are strong enough to protect her. The last fight may not have gone well at the start, but it sounds like the "seals" are still degrading and not entirely gone yet, meaning that the boys are not yet at full power.

Oh boy, the cats are all out of the bag now, though it's hard to tell if Sooha only recognizes Heli and his group or if she also recognizes the werewolves in this last encounter. Is Heli's story also correct about the lunar eclipse and werewolf lore? If so, Sooha may have an even more ardent admirer on her hands. How is Chris back from the dead as well? As happy as Sooha is to see him originally, there seems to be something very wrong with this character and his new appearance. Also hints that he may have something to do with the boys, not that they seem to be aware themselves with their history at the orphanage. It's still not clear exactly how or why Sooha is different from other humans, or why all of her new friends are so drawn to her, but from the boy's observations, it seems clear whatever she has is something strong. She seems to have at least calmed down with Heli despite the original panic, though it is yet to be seen how the rest of this encounter will unfold. Lots of cliffhangers to pick up hopefully in the next volume.

I've been eyeing this series for awhile and finally had a chance to pick up the books today. Nearly finished this first volume in the time we were waiting in line at the store, it was that entertaining. Sooha grows up as a bit of an outcast, considered a vampire by the townsfolk though in truth she's a human with an unusual skill. With the loss of her one friend due what appears to be a vampire attack, Sooha firmly believes vampires are the worst creatures out there and hates them with a passion. The last thing she expects when transferring to a new school because of its strict screening for vampires is to find herself with not one friend, but several, all who seem to be a little unusual just like her. The boys are well aware of her hatred for vampires, but this doesn't seem to concern them at the moment. Even the few that originally think they should keep their distance from Sooha quickly end up acting like puppies with her, eager to please and spend time with her. What is it that is making her this oddity to her new friends, and what will it mean for their relationships as they learn more about each other? It will be interesting to find out, especially with the many diverse personalities, powers, and interactions we have here.

I had thought this series was complete when I learned there is a third volume that hasn't been translated entirely yet. Luckily, I was able to find translations online to be able to follow the story. This volume takes us back to Ilya's homeland and interactions with his family. While it seems like things are much better with his father than his memories portrayed, his brother is a piece of work. On the other hand, Huey seems to warm up rather quickly and doesn't seem nearly as prejudice as the rest of the family once he's put in his place. Instead, he seems to get rather close to Ilya, even keeping touch once things resolve. Their future as a family is glossed over very quickly, but is adorable for what little is seen. Khalid seems to be doing well as king too, which is more evident how he turns this forced divorce missive in his favor and is able to bring Ilya back home.

A Condition Called Love 18 by Megumi Morino

There is a lot of ground covered here, which can make it a little difficult to follow, but fortunately it is mostly in order aside from imaginative overlays when they think about their futures or something similar. It's almost adorably hilarious how possessive Saki still gets of Hotaru. Can't really call him Hanananoi anymore given they eventually share the same name, though it's still rather adorable and subtle how the change takes place. Though there is talk about moving in together before they start college, it's unclear when this step is taken, which could be interesting, but most likely was deemed small potatoes compared to the rest of their future. We even get some additional information on many other characters and how their stories play out than would necessarily be expected. Overall, it's a well done ending to a series of a decent length - not too short or too long.

Slow reading as I've been under the weather, but as enjoyable as ever. There's a pattern in these books, but the pattern varies just enough with the different cases that it never loses it's shine. Add in kicking off the event with a big gala that even has Eve dolled up to the nines, and you get a look at all aspects of this life they've made together, with cameos from many of the close and familiar faces that have joined their circle along the way. Another blast from the past with Roarke's ex showing up as well, but with a lot of good endings, including support from Interpol and Summerset of all of them. For all that Summerset and Eve have this silent joking war of theirs, they've clearly reached an understanding and a balance that works for them, even when Roarke may not always appreciate the both of them trying to protect him in turn. Too many highlights to count, and of course plenty of Eve's off handed observations about the oddities in the English language. All we can say this time around is thank goodness for Thin Shield and a really amazing team - and it's not all just the NYPSD, though of course that's the core of it.

There was potential for the series to actually end here as the boys at least have committed to each other at this point and have remembered enough of their pasts to at least recognize each other. It's clear that there is still some jealousy and a lot of shipping going on, though, and at least one person who doesn't seem able to take a hint when Pharm keeps rejecting him. Dean seems to be more than a little possessive, not that Pharm minds from his own actions. It will be interesting to see what happens in the following volumes and if it's just expanding on their current reality or if we'll see more back flashes and discussion of past events.

Wasn't entirely sure what to think about this one at the start, but it seems to have a good set up. The names are unusual, which makes it difficult sometimes, especially when their nickname may be used right before something referencing what their name means or the actual word itself - like "In" and "in". Confusion aside, it's a bit of a Romeo and Juliet type of tale at the start, with an obvious attraction once Dean and Pharm meet in their next life. Neither one seems entirely sure why they are drawn to each other or what it means, only that there has been something or someone they have been looking for all along, and they seem drawn to each other. Now that the boys have officially met and exchanged contact information, it will be interesting to see how things develop, especially as Dean seems very keen to keep in contact with Pharm now that the previous distance has been broken at least once.

This is nearly a classical case of opposites attracting. Kumazawa doesn't meet his new neighbor until he's been living there for six months, listening to him streaming the entire time. The last thing he expected when he finally breaks down and asks him to keep down the volume is an obvious physical attraction with Koichi. Koichi has only been with women before, and his streaming videos are all about being a hot guy and how to get a girl - not exactly anything that fits in with this sudden attraction to his new neighbor. Koichi is overly friendly and more than a little determined to learn just what makes Kumazawa so "good." It's hilarious how Koichi's co-workers define their relationship at the end, yet it seems that neither of the boys are all that interested in labels themselves so long as they are both on the same page. Originally thought to be a one shot, it was surprising to see that there is a sequel coming out next month. Not entirely sure where they'll go with it, so will have to wait and see what is in store.

This is a very quick read that, on the surface, doesn't seem to have a lot in the way of moving the story along, but it does reveal a good deal of Theo's plans for the Eclipse family and cements what Prince Kenneth must do in order to stop them. Anna is left in the dark at the moment, but seems to have her own ideas as far as playing along with things to gather information. Hopefully, she can reunite with her own allies sooner rather than later, especially as Theo seems quick to dismiss her as having any involvement in current matters.

It appears this is not the last novel of the series as new events are far from complete. This Princess Beatrice seems both simple and complicated at the same time, easily coming to the strangest conclusions that are far from the truth and choosing very questionable actions in her desperation to meet her family's demands. Even more than the crown prince, it seems this "Lord Prophet" may be who they should be the most concerned about, and what he has in store for Keith, rather than anything else. It also remains to be seen if Beatrice interacting with Claire's memories could indeed change the events of their past, though hopefully this will be resolved before they reach their current lifetime. Despite this looming threat and the exams they can't risk failing, the entire group seems oddly laid back and excited to be able to get a glimpse of what took place in Claire's first life with them all - especially Vik. I haven't been able to find any information regarding the release of the next installment in the series, so hopefully it won't be too long of a wait for continuity.

It is interesting how Prince Gilbert's situation is similar and yet different from Claire's, especially as it seems his story repeated separately from Claire's own experience up until their storylines actually converged. This is also the first time that we actually see any true understanding of the game world from Charlotte despite her frequent ravings that she's the "main character". Events with Prince Gilbert were more than a little concerning, though make some sense from the game's point of view. His actions clearly clashed with the current reality and expectations, though fortunately with Claire's own experience, Vik and his retinue are far more equipped to understand and act on Gilbert's story than others who might be more likely to dismiss his ramblings. It is fortunate that things work out as they do. While the story does have a definite end at this point, there are also some lingering possibilities that might be explored, which would make sense as there is currently at least one more volume after this one in the novel series. Hopefully we'll see more of Claire's happy future come to a reality and far less concerns or troubles than the previous versions of the story have entailed.

Just when it looks like the story may be wrapping up, we have new lessons to prepare for and a new romance character making an appearance. There is a slight warning of this when Claire returns to the modern world once again, but it seems more similar to her first dream visit rather than like the times when her power drained, making it even more confusing. This new character seems to have some knowledge potentially of events given his acceptance of Charlotte as the "main character" and his unusual interest in Claire. Hopefully this won't be too problematic, especially after the bombshells at the last ball take place. At least Nicola seems to be a much better match with current relations being what they are, as well as the building friendship between Noston and Paffuto. We learn a bit more about Claire's grandmother as well, though her visions and interference in the story still seem to be unknown a lot of the time and leaves questions remaining as to what she actually saw. Ideally, there won't be as much of a wait for Claire and Vik, especially now that it seems the entire royal family is onboard with Vik's plans.

As hoped, this takes us just past current events in the manga. We also get a lot more insight on Vik's side of events, and even Dion shares the spotlight a bit, which adds more dimension to the rest of the story. Prince Asbert makes an appearance as well following the meeting with Aunt Anne, which leaves about as many questions as answers regarding the situation with Charlotte. It looks like Aunt Anne is preemptively making a move herself with the drinks at the ball, though it's yet to be seen how things will play out now that Charlotte's powers have awakened. It will be curious as well to see if everyone remains as clear from her influence as they currently are, and what it will mean with Nicola transfering to the Noston academy. At least it appears that everyone with any idea of how things are playing out in Paffuto seem supportive of Claire and Vik, though it's somewhat muted by the forced delays. Claire does have a point, as always, though hopefully it won't add any additional strains now that things are slowly working out. It will be curious to see if they must wait until the tornado and/or the next ball following as in the past or if another opportunity will arise. It seems Vik and Keith are keeping him apprised of things, so it is unlikely to be a surprise at least. If he is as amenable and supportive as he was the first time around, there should not be any difficulties. Can't help but feel something will happen with Charlotte, but hopefully it will not result in as much of a tragedy this time around with all of these new ties and plans in motion.

This covers a few of the volumes in the manga, as expected. While there are some descriptions, like the baptisms that make far more sense in this version, there are other details that I must admit are better in the manga. The reason for Claire wanting the save point is a prime example of this. While war is certainly never a good thing, and her concern over Lui is obvious, her decision makes far more sense when Vik is also on the line. Otherwise, a lot of the story is the same, though as always, there are different details available in different versions of the story. We even get a sneak peek into Claire's ideal future and Vik's groups antics before they meet Claire. It is also much clearer that Aunt Anne certainly does have something to do with Charlotte's weakening control over those around them. It would be interesting to see some interaction between Claire and Anne directly, especially if she may have some additional details to the story that Claire has been wondering about.

Well, this is probably the best they could have hoped for in regards to digging out the Meade family's plots while also finding a way to protect Dion given his current allegiance and the genuine resource he's become for the group. The ball is a little surprising between the unexpected tea party with Nicola and Vik's assertions wanting to provide Claire with a dress the next time and his disappointment in not being able to introduce her to the king yet. Lydia provides a lot of insight there, which is hilarious and also leaves us on a rather large cliff hanger as there's this large hint of things working out but a new obstacle in the way while Claire flails over if she's reading things correctly or not. This is a bit disappointing as there's no news on when the next volume will be released, but still highly enjoyable in this volume. There's a significant difference in things as the group establishes their new friendship, and even Vik seems a little put out when Claire initially clings to formality and protocol with him. I may end up picking up the light novel for this series as I really want to see how things unfold, though unsure if that version of the series is complete or not at this stage. Given the amount of content novels typical cover in comparison to their manga counterparts, it seems certain at least the story would proceed further even though there's currently five volumes of the novel compared to the seven for the manga. Seeing all of the emotions and the artwork is just too good though - need another volume soon!

Oddly, Dion genuinely seems perfectly content with his new situation and outlook on life, which in turn has made him a good resource for information for Claire and Vik and the others. With at least some of their past story now public, it's reassuring to see at least this core group believes them, and even some understanding from Vik as he puts the pieces together. There seems to be some hope for the pair there as well given his musings and comments about similarities to his feelings now, not that Claire seems to catch all of them or understand what he means. It's somewhat clearer towards the end of the volume as Claire is abducted by Dion's sister and Vik has to decide if he'll follow her lead and wait or charge in to rescue her right away - though it's clear what his preference would be, just as he struggled in the original storyline with letting Claire find her wings on her own and wanting to keep her by his side. Fortunately, the two goals aligned before, and most likely will again if the two can get back on the same page. Vik is slowly opening up more often, which makes for interesting comparisons from Claire as she reminds herself that they don't have the same relationship now and wonders what is or isn't acceptable, but Vik keeps reaching out in small ways that are encouraging to readers.

Well, Dion's arrival certainly explains a lot of the changes at least as far as events in Paffuto and the risk to Claire being able to unleash her full potential. We also meet Vik's older brother, who was not a known part of the original story at all as far as we've seen so far. Understandably, the groups interactions are very different this time around, but there are small snippets here and there that bridge some of the gap and may provide some relief with the changing events. It's clear Claire is learning to understand more of her own feelings, though she remains determined to be content with saving those dear to her. The ending of this volume adds a rather unexpected twist in Claire's encounter with Dion and how that plays out.

Claire is surprising more than a few people, but who could have suspected events unfolding the way they are. It is yet to be seen how events will unfold entirely, but Claire's suspicion about the game save point at least appears to have been accurate. The cover makes sense with this move back to the past of the game. Fortunately, Claire retains her memories of events in her prior life, allowing her to make decisions based on current events. Things have changed drastically from how they happened in the past however, including the high regard from her family and ex-fiance, and the much earlier events unfolding in Paffuto. Hopefully there won't be too much trouble with her "trespassing" and this very early meeting, though this may be a better scene in private than meeting in a formal setting where they can't really talk at all.

Things progress rather quickly thanks to events at the ball. Some answers forming as well with the introduction of the Meade family, though fortunately Dion does not appear to be as threatening as everyone feared thanks to Claire's new power levels. It seems everyone is seeing Charlotte's true colors, which has her more than a little upset as she is of the opinion everyone should adore her and give her what she wants. The return to Noston is a bit of a surprise, though it also makes sense with the timing of events. Vik has very little patience for those he sees as disregarding Claire and responsible for the perceived pain she must have gone through prior to their meeting. It seems like Claire has a better remaining reputation in her home country than she thought she did, though at least it seems as if those who have run into her so far are respectful of her position with the delegation while clearly curious as to what it means - at least until close to the end.

There's more than a little bit of misconception going around, but it's adorable and hilarious at the same time. Claire has unintentionally garnered the respect and approval Vik needed to choose her through her actions, though that wasn't her intention. She genuinely just wanted to help everyone. It's rather adorable how Vik's advisors and Miss Isabella are rooting for the pair, though they both seem convinced they should settle for friends and being able to support the other in their goals.

This follows a lot of similar tropes with the younger step sibling joining the family later on and wanting everything the rich family has, so she paints the older sibling as the villain who looked down on her and made her life miserable, earning the sympathy of those around her, including her older sister's fiance. When the crown prince plans to break their engagement, Claire doesn't truly mind as she adores her younger sister Charlotte, and thinks she would be a better match for the crown prince given their magic rankings after initiation. Except it appears that Claire's ranking was incorrect at first because she didn't have the correct location for her mother's hometown.

Thanks to the isekai aspect of this series, Claire dreams of life as a college student where her closest friend and roommate is playing the very game that she's living - so which one is the real her? The college interactions do glean some information she was otherwise missing however, such as her mother's hometown, and shedding light on why everything changed so drastically among her family and peers.

Claire doesn't let this get her down though, and immediately sets out on her own. The last thing she would have expected would be meeting a female knight (apparently she's the first to realize so quickly according to the other knights) and the crown prince of a neighboring country (though this revelation comes much later). Vik does seem like a genuinely nice guy, though it's also clear he has some sort of interest in Claire even before her re-initiation. Claire seems perfectly content with her new role as a governess and the chance to go back to school and learn about her new abilities. Granted, we haven't met her charge yet, and it would seem there's at least one girl at school that has her sights set on Vik. That could spell some trouble given Vik's clear fondness for Claire and his determination to look out for her.

The King’s Beast 17 by Rei Tōma

Rangetsou's powers seem to have gone into super mode, and Sogetsu may not be far behind given their method for finally removing his collar. Though one might wonder why go through such danger and pain to remove the collar only to want to put a new one on - hopefully one that is easier to remove going forward. We get a few cute scenes between Rengetsou and Tenyou, especially as it seems Tenyou's brothers have been helping plot how to make it seem more acceptable for the two of them to be together in the future. The tides may have turned, and most of the story seems to be winding down, but Rengetsou seems to have something new on her mind thanks to all of these new stories.
