The Abandoned Empress 9

The Abandoned Empress 9 by Ina

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This may be the best part of the story so far with so many revelations and things coming together. Also glad to see this is not the last of the series so hopefully we will get to see at least some of the story progressing past these new vows and truths. It very well could have ended at this point, though it would be nice to see some happiness after all of this chaos. If it wasn't enough that Tia constantly seems to be a target, it seems Ruve is as well. Even Jieun turns out to not be entirely what was expected as we learn more about what happened to her before coming back in time, though it's doubtful she ever would have really believed Tia's claims that their paths have changed had she not been with Carsien when Tia was attacked. The only one we don't really seem to know about at this point is Allen, though he's rumored to have at least visited his family home a few times now, so he's still alive.

The Abandoned Empress 8

The Abandoned Empress 8 by Ina

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Well, Tia finally got her wish as far as annulling the marriage contract, but it seems she and the prince are even more drawn to each other than in the past. Some new answers as well with her past life miscarriage and illness with the poison, though it's still questionable exactly who all was behind it. Just what was Jiuen hinting at that might have taken place after Tia returned to the past, and just how did Jiuen herself return to the past as well? She made it sound almost as if she had chosen to return, which would be rather curious all in all. Meanwhile, it appears no one knows where Allen is exactly, and Carsien is perhaps the most loyal of all, though the prince is giving him a run for his money in his actions towards Tia so far in this life. It seems a lot may have changed rather significantly with the two of them understanding each other's feelings more this time around and the prince not growing to resent Tia continually. Even the temple seems to be on Tia's side as much as they are able to be, or at least the one priest who keeps visiting the palace is, which sounds like was the difference between her surviving this most recent poisoning attack or dying around the same time as the emperor.

The Abandoned Empress 7

The Abandoned Empress 7 by Ina

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Tia seems to be getting along with everyone more than ever, especially finding great comfort in her better relationship with her father. At the same time, she finally had to draw the line with Allen which may have resulted in him leaving the kingdom for good after his own plotting put her life at risk and nearly blinded Carsein. The wheels of fate continue to turn and now it appears she is accepting that perhaps she could not change fate as much as she wished just as she was beginning to have hope that the changes were not only affecting her and perhaps the prince had changed as well. Despite her fears, it does seem as though the both the Emperor and the crown prince both still favor her, though she is blind to this with the Jiuen's arrival. If anything, the prince seems to have difficulty convincing Tia that he is sincere and does genuinely care for her this time around, though whose to say what Jiuen's arrival may or may not force in the way of changing things given the prophecy and politics at play.

Tia struggles with her decisions as she still believes the decision she's made will save her from her previous fate, yet it's clear that things are not the same as they were before. She has many more friends and allies in her quest this time around, and the prince is clearly concerned about her, both politically and personally. It will be interesting as it all plays out to see if this other girl appearing from another world still happens and truly does win favor or if everyone's devotion will remain to Tia with this new world and the positions and true respect she's slowly carved out for herself.

That idea backfired. They nearly had the emperor agreeing to let Tia go and then she saves the the day with the fire. The prince also seems to be torn here and warming up to her far more in the previous life they led together, though is it enough to stop the chain of events when the other girl arrives in their world? Lots of mixed signals, though Tia seems perfectly happy to be friendly with everyone and prefer to be tied to none of them. Not that the boys all agree as it seems everyone is taking an interest in her - for better or for worse.

The Abandoned Empress 4

Well now, Tia certainly seems to have more admirers than she thinks, and there is definitely something up with Allendis and his obsession with Tia it would seem. Perhaps her father knows more than he is letting on with the way he is blocking their letters. Tia seems to be too tired after her apprenticeship to really pay it much mind however. The prince also seems to have developed some new attachment to her, laying it on rather think with the "my fiancée" talk and seemingly genuinely confused and concerned that Tia is so afraid of him. More people are learning Tia's secret as well, which could end up making things easier for her or making them much harder if they don't believe her.

Tia hasn't given up, as evident by her enlisting even those assigned to guard her in her new training. Rather interesting and confusing encounters with the prince as well. Hard to tell if he's softening or if something else is at play here as he seems both worried about her health and yet somehow also still controlling and demeaning when discussing her position with the court. Somewhat expected and yet also disappointed with Allendis this time as well. At least Tia finally told someone, but perhaps not the correct person, and unlikely running away will truthfully solve anything.

Tia is left to her own devices when both her father and Allendis are called away due to the disputes throughout the kingdom. Awkward encounters continue to pile up with the prince as well, as Tia continues to try and race against her own fate. Her fragile health also makes itself known again, though she seems rather determined not to let it dictate her life and still do what she feels she must. Perhaps going to the palace wasn't the smartest move in such condition, but it seems those who are aware of her ailment are mostly considerate and understanding.

A good portion of this book is a long flashback on Tia's life up until the beginning of the book when she is executed.... only to wake up back as a 10-year-old with the opportunity to redo a good portion of her life. It would seem that may be as easy as she hoped given the directive from "God" and her own potential claim to the throne now if she actually wanted such a thing. Interesting that if anything, the Prince seems jealous of her and resentful of the attention she receives more than anything once we can see their younger interactions. Allendis is another mystery. He seems like a nice boy, though who honestly proposes on their first meeting when both parties are children?! Seems to be a lot of mistrust there though, and who knows the reason given everything else that happened previously. Hopefully this sword training will go well for both of them.
