Pokemon: Let's Go, Eevee (Nintendo Switch)

Admittedly, I ended up playing this more for the pokemon transfer storage and the mystery boxes for Pokemon Go to get Meltan to spawn. Initially, the set up was interesting, and could someday see wanting to play through more of the story as I do enjoy some of the challenges and collecting the various pokemon, especially when one of the long time favorites pops up on screen. The overall style fits well with my preferred RPG style game as well as combining with a story and characters that I'm familiar with that make it more fun to pick up once in awhile when time allows and would rather game than read.

Luca

Luca (2021)

The story is cute, but sometimes the language is difficult to follow, especially with the Italian thrown into the mix. It's fairly low key and in some ways reminiscent of The Little Mermaid with a sea creature who wants to know about humans and live among them. There are some interesting lessons on family, trust, acceptance, and bravery among other things in the story. Not the most engaging of Disney films, and very low on the musical scores, but still cute.

Encanto

The story is cute, and the music is catchy, as with most Disney films. It is good to see the family coming together in the end and everyone happy, though there are still loose ends left hanging, especially when it comes to Mirabel and her "power." Sure, she saved the family and the family door now shows a picture of the family thanks to her, but does she actually have a family gift like the rest of the Madrigals now, or is she still different from the rest of her family now? Though it could also be said that the house was original Abuela's, and now is more Mirabel's thanks to these changes, and it does not seem Abuela had any other gift aside from the "miracle".

The Mandalorian

I'm a little behind on finally watching this series, however, found it thoroughly enjoyable. A little strange seeing some of the old characters back again, and it made it difficult to place where in the story this series takes place exactly until near the end of Season 2. I find it interesting how expressive Mando manages to be even with the helmet on, and how he evolves to really being a father figure for Grogu - though it's interesting everyone continues to use "The Child" even after learning his name. It will be interesting to see how things continue to evolve in Season 3, as well as the tie in to the new Book of Boba Fett series coming up.

Hawkeye

We get another tie-in to more common Spider-Man storylines here with the King Pin brought into the mix. There are a few other notable leads to other characters in the Marvel universe, and even some fun poked at the earlier comic costume designs (purple, big H for Hawkeye, flashy mask and all). Clint is his usual down to earth self who does not want attention drawn to himself. There's still an obvious internal struggle going on regarding Black Widow's death even before her sister arrives back on the scene, which may be expected from anyone who did see the more recent Black Widow film. The Roger's musical is.... interesting.... and also have to wonder why the name when it's obviously about all of the Avengers (even including Ant-Man who was not actually at the depicted battle of New York).... Sure are a lot of Ant-Man leads ins though. Because of the up-coming Ant-Man & the Wasp: Quantumania release, or something else?

Heartland

This has been on my to-watch list for ages after my mom first mentioned it to me, likely due to my well-known love of horses. Never seemed to have time for it though between work, family, and everything else. Finally had some time to start it while on Thanksgiving holiday and finished it during winter break.... or as close to finished as possible as it seems to still be airing. The story follows the life of Amy Fleming and her family through many highs and lows, all realistic and well portrayed. It is also well filmed for various angles including from the saddle, from a horse's perspective, and even from the ground. All in all, it combines for a real life drama including a very healthy dose of horse sense that is thoroughly enjoyable.

Christmas in the Heartland

Somewhat reminiscent of The Parent Trap, where two characters swap lives for a period of time. In this case, there is no ulterior motive to get their families back together, though it seems they may just have that same effect by the end of the story. Neither is particularly thrilled about being sent "home" to relatives they don't really know for the holidays when they meet on a plane and realize they're heading to the same place for the same reason.... only they like the sound of the other person's holiday much better than their own. Some chaos always joins the mix with a switch up like this, and while the resolution may not be perfect, it seems the majority end up with more than they could ever have hoped for.

White Christmas

This is one of the old classic Christmas movies that has really aged well for its time. The story still is well done, especially for the time period in which it is supposed to take place, as well as the music still being engaging and fitting for the rest of the story. There are more than a few mix ups and misunderstandings in the mix of the entire thing, but in the end of course, it all works out for a wonderful Christmas.

This is similar to Love & Pies and Merge Mansion, where it combines merge play and game tasks, though there does not seem to be much in an overall storyline that is being followed in this case. They do, however, have some holiday events like Merge Mansion does, in that they have their own space and separate element designs and tasks to earn the rewards rather than just being an addition to the main play like in Love & Pies. Not the best of the graphics seen for merge games, but a good low key game that requires a touch of patience if you want to keep it at the free level in the range of freemium games out to play.

Similar to Love & Pies, this game combines merge game play with completing tasks to move through a story line for the main game play. It looks like fairly soon into game play, there are levels where the only way to get the materials needed to build are to purchase limited time game packs when they show up and happen to have the elements available. However, these game packs look to only be available by purchase with real money and not through any coin or gem currency that can be earned in game. Due to this, it makes it very difficult even at a slower pace to be able to play through, even though it has some of the better merge/RPG graphics and the holiday challenges are interesting (haven't had both time and energy to fully complete a holiday event yet, but they've been fun). With this new roadblock though, it is unlikely this game will stay on the playing roster.

Love & Pies

This is an interesting take on a merge style game combined with a bit of RPG style story line as you play through the redesign of the shop along the way while finishing challenges for the merge items. The play through is rather direct as many of the story pieces are interactions with other characters, while others do allow for a choice out of 3 options for the next stage of building and designing the new store. Sometimes there are special events that run as well, though unless playing constantly, unlikely to earn many of the prizes if playing completely free as there is a limited amount of gems, coins, and energy that can be earned each day, as well as how many rewards can be claimed out of the items that are combined to provide new elements for merging to complete tasks.

Zen Match

In some ways this is similar to match 3 games, but only in that you do need to find 3 of a kind to clear that part of the deck. There are a limited number of slots on the board to find the matches though, similar to how there are a limited number of letters the player deck can hold for Scrabble, though there isn't a discard pile. There are a limited number of design rooms to color in the game, so it's quick to work through them if playing consistently. The daily puzzles are timed challenges though, which add up through the month for a new plant of some sort for the gallery, which is a bit of daily fun and usually not so difficult it requires buying power ups or scramble coins to help complete the levels.

Ava's Manor

If there is one game this is most similar to, it is probably a similar design Word Villas, though only in that it takes the design and story elements of a more RPG style game and combines it with another game to earn the points and materials needed to continue to story. In this game, it is various forms of solitaire or other card variants of the game. While this is a nice change of pace from the more common match 3 types of games, the levels very quickly get to the point where you need power ups to complete them, and if you don't have enough coins from previous levels, you may end up stuck unless you are willing to buy power ups and materials. Would be fantastic if there were easier ways to earn the power ups and assistance needed, especially for the timed events for the holidays.

Even though ads would tell that this has more of an RPG style to the merge game play, in reality it is very much like Evermerge, Mergical, and other similar merge style games where you hatch creatures to work on buildings and gathering materials to unlock other areas in the game. The design is cute, but it's very repetitive with very little story, progress, or anything new revealed regularly to keep interest in the game.

Overall, this is the same as Liquid Sort Puzzle, though slightly different in the forced timing and selection for each of the vials to move the water colors from one location to another and solve the set. As with the other game, not overly thrilling or engaging, so is not one to stay around for long.

While not another match-3 game, this is another rather simple game that provides for some easy game play and distraction. Similar games have come up as mini-games in Time Princess, though with more challenges as they often require maneuvering several characters and elements rather than just getting all of the gems into the chest. Overall, not the most engaging.

The game play itself is rather simple. If by some chance you do run out of tubes, there are options to buy more either with real funds or by watching ads for game revenue. The ads, while slowing down the game play, do allow options to keep the game more on the free side than trying to force costs like the many freemium games on the market currently. A little repetitious eventually once you'd completed a few levels, which can add to some boredom. This does mean that it's a good pick for something more mindless as a time filler or distraction when wanted without needing to worry about resources and timing.

Despite ads showing this as a more interactive RPG style game, it's actually yet another match-3 game, which is highly disappointing. It leans very heavily on running out of required supplies to try and force you to buy items to finish levels instead of being able to play through the game normally so there's isn't much "free" in the "freemium" model.

One of the better recent Marvel movie additions, the story and characters both have depth while still including a lot of action and some excellent special effects. The best friend/sidekick can be a little aggravating at times, but she also has an odd balancing effect with a touch of comic relief to all of the rest of the insanity going on in the story. Add in the tie in to Doctor Strange, and can't help but wonder when we'll next see at least one, if not both, of these stars back on the Marvel roster.

Marvel Cinematic Universe 24: Black Widow

By far this is probably one of the worst Marvel movies completed to date. It had all the action, sure, and a lot of potential with Natasha's backstory, however, it seems like it was just jammed with as much action as possible and who cared if the filming actually met production standards. When actors are suddenly in entirely different locations from one clip to the next without supposedly moving in the camera span and/or the laws of gravity seem to be defied without use of any special tech or abilities, it leaves some questions as to how everything was signed off on at the end of the deal. It does seem like there is a lot of potential between Natasha and her sister, but it seems we won't see more of that given the end scenes [spoiler] jump to after her death.

Immortal Diaries

Game play is more similar to Time Princess where there are certain dress up requirements for story chapters and events. There is also a dating element making it similar to Choices at the same time. As a relatively newer game, apparently the story has not been completed however. Currently you can read up to chapter 12 and then you'll end up in a cycle of argument levels that don't really progress the story, but do still earn experience to upgrade your character along with sometimes earning new clothing items along the way. The contest shop does need a refresh for new items, though. Eventually, those rose gems just keep piling up and there's nothing to use them on while still trying to earn gems, fashion statues, and other tickets for the rose mall.

Time Princess

Time Princess is basically a dress up game that progresses through different fictional stories. While earning materials and coins to complete the outfits for the current story and progress through the tale, tickets can also be earned to purchase additional stories as well. Certain chapters will eventually require certain clothing pieces to pass them however, which can create a blocker if only doing free-to-play while you wait to earn the materials.

The pictures are a lot of fun and the coloring function works really well. There are a few pictures every now and then that will have really tiny pieces that are difficult to find even if the screen is zoomed in significantly. There are hint options to help with these situations though, so it isn't a dead end. The largest downside in the game play is the recent change when the ads aren't only when the picture is completed, but also now forced for hints mid-game. Previously, the ad watch for hints was optional entirely through coloring, so it wasn't a forced interruption.

Really like the idea of coloring pictures to earn coins for the designs and story progression rather than the usual match 3 games that are so common. The actual coloring function is very tiny and frustrating, however. Unsure if playing on a bigger screen would be helpful with the canvas size or still just as aggravating given how the coloring function seems to lag.

Technically not really a game, but a photo editing app. There may be some frustration with the editing or if the app decides the picture you want to edit can't be used, but the idea itself is a fun one and it has a cute variety of effects to play with.

The game play itself is enjoyable, however, every individual level gets blocked by more ads, then another ad for boosters, etc. to the point where playing the next level doesn't seem so enjoyable anymore. There is no way to earn coins other than in game play or paying, so it doesn't take much playing to reach a dead end for the day if you are only doing free-to-play.

Another game that while fun in theory, ends up being blocked constantly by ads, making it frustrating. The game requires a certain amount of currency to be earned to play another level, and more than likely, payment or a large number of ads will be required to acquire that currency as you won't earn enough just from completing the previous challenges.

In theory, this is a fun way to have a daily crossword available without worrying about a bunch of paper and pens. Realistically, it's an ad bomb that will drive you crazy if you ever want any of the hints or clues to complete the crosswords. Makes what would be a fun and enjoyable game rather aggravating long term so it doesn't get clicked on much if at all.

These stories are getting predictable, yet I still hate leaving a series unfinished, so I keep coming back. Qhuinn had a hard start to begin with, and a lot of that is revisited in this story. Perhaps what is most surprising of all is that one or both of the girls didn't end up being Luchas' daughters, though the timeline would not have fit. Z also proves once again how far he's come since his own work started and how it's an ongoing journey both when his own nightmares come back up and how he steps in to help Qhuinn and Blay. For the initial chaos with the storm and the panic about being snowed in, it doesn't seem to have slowed the Brotherhood down any since that first initial day, with the rest brushed off as being in the week when Qhuinn basically checks out on everything. Seems like some missed opportunities and scenes in that gap.

It took awhile to get into this story. Devina really made me dislike the Fallen Angel series, so her addition into the main series here was not a good thing. Her character feels too convenient and shallow, lacking any real depth. Syn had good development, if not for perhaps being even more spectacularly blind to the world around him than most of the other Brothers when they met their shellans (seems to be a trend). Seem to be coming out of the woodwork with old souls and distant relatives. Fortunate in this case given the way everything comes together in the end.

The story very closely follows one of the TV series episodes, along with the pictures for the book. It's familiar, but also very simple in how it's written, making it enjoyable for small children. Add in that my kids love the DreamWorks Dragon series, and you have a mix for instant fun. Not a long read, but that's usually a good thing for smaller children.

The story has a bit of a slow burn, so it seems more natural. A bit of a destiny cliché perhaps, but it's well done so it comes off as sweet and almost more of a side story than a driving force behind how everything happened (even though that early encounter ended up having some fairly large significance overall). For a moment, it looked like this was going to end on a rather depressing note, so the true ending (and the epilogues) were a nice relief.

Takato flies to Spain in an attempt to learn Flamenco, only he apparently forgets to consider this is where Junta grows up. This time it's Takato that has a rival to beat back. Junta's family, especially his grandfather, are rather sly in their little slips and directions to help the boys along. In the end, this is largely a side story, but it also shows a lot of emotional growth on Takato's part. We also see where Junta bets his bull barreling take what he wants personality from.

Takato is finally ready to start living with Junta and seems to be accepting their relationship at least when he's alone - he's still very vocal with his disapproval when Junta keeps forcing things his way. At least that is until a photographer gets some shots of them together. A little photography blackmail later and a lot of misguided attempts at protecting each other and making themselves miserable along the way, and it seems like there may be light at the end of the tunnel for these two.

There are still some obvious problems going on, especially when it comes to Junta outright kidnapping Takato and Sasaki either really being clueless or intentionally turning a blind eye to the behavior. The end of the chapter is rather bittersweet as Junta appears to be basically blaming Takato for what (thankfully) didn't actually happen with his new co-star. Takato is either really falling for Junta at this point or is otherwise reached the point where he's basically accepted this strange relationship and dynamics they have - to the point where he's visibly upset at the thought of it all going away or changing.

I've actually started to read this several times and ended up putting it down, not because of the story or the art necessarily, but that the anime at least through this first volume very closely follows the same story, so it feels very repetitive and predictable. Junta is an oddity where he appears very angelic, lending to the illusion he would also be innocent. He's anything but that with how forceful he is claiming Takato... and it really can't be called anything but that with how he goes about getting his way.

Incidentally Living Together

While in a lot of ways this is a fairly traditional BL manhwa, it also deals with a lot of the darker sides of mental health disorders, which is not as common. Really, Junwoo and Wooyeon luck out rather significantly the way everything plays out for them. It could have ended up a lot worse, especially when Hanbit basically washes his hands of both of them and leaves them to sort out the mess. There's a lot of repetition, especially in the early chapters. Both Junwoo and Wooyeon also have different avoidance techniques that they use rather liberally when they don't want to deal with things or acknowledge that maybe they were wrong or there was another way to work through it. The ending is happy, but almost as a forced afterthought. In some ways, Junwoo's earlier revelation the morning Wooyeon is to leave perhaps is the best highlight of all. Wouldn't have tied up loose ends with Hanbit maybe, but he'd basically been out of the picture mostly since the beginning anyway.

SK8 the Infinity

Reki, a high school sophomore and skater, is addicted to "S," a highly secret and dangerous downhill skateboarding race that takes place in an abandoned mine. The skaters are especially wild about the "beefs," or heated battles that erupt in the races. Reki takes Langa, a transfer student returning to Japan after studying abroad, to the mine where the races are held. Langa, who has no skateboarding experience, finds himself pulled into the world of "S". - IMDB

Reki and Langa are very relatable characters and it's easy to get invested in their story. Langa is also a bit of an oddity as he adapts his snowboarding experience to skateboarding, lending to incredible jumps and positions that earn him the title of Snow. There will be some hard lessons along the way, but in the end, "skating is fun" and something they can do anywhere - best of all when they are together.

Masato and Asahi have finally made their peace, though it would seem getting Asahi's office space ready for them to live in may be a bit more daunting of a task than originally estimated, especially as Masato is very weak when it comes to bugs. The past will come up yet again with a chance encounter featuring Asahi's ex-wife, though this appears to offer some further closer (with a side of jealousy from Masato) rather than any additional drama as the earlier stories entailed. Overall, the story has a lot of ups and downs rather than a straight line to a happy ending, which in truth is far more realistic of a journey.

Just when it seems like things are working out for Masato and Asahi, it appears Masato's past as a heartbreaker has indeed come back to haunt him. As usual, Masato acts like he thinks he's doing it for the other party's sake, but he's still running away. Certainly not the easiest rock and hard place to be stuck between, but also understandable why Naru is even more disappointed in him in this case. For all of the earlier bravado and commitment, there is an awful lot of moping when it turns out Masato's past actions aren't so secret or separate from his currently reality as he may wish they were.

I've tried twice to start this series now and haven't been able to make it past the third episode so far. The story feels very forced and agonizing, especially when compared to other series like Yuri!!! On Ice. Doesn't help itself with the comparisons any either when both are about figure skating, and both decide to feature a silver skater as the "unbeatable star" at the head of the pack. Kensei is both full of himself at the start of the series, but then appears to keep his better-than-you attitude even as he seems to have given up. The combination is even more grating than Yurio's arrogance and teenage attitude in Yuri!!! On Ice. It's hard not to draw comparisons, but compared or on it's own, so far it leaves a lot to be desired. I do still want to finish it, but have a feeling it's going to be a very long and bumpy road if that day ever comes.

For all that Masato and Asahi can't seem to stand each other and their polar opposite habits, perhaps theirs is a rather obvious case of opposites attract. Asahi's ability to understand and put Masato at ease seems to have sealed his fate and made Masato turn on all his charms.... though not sure how charming it is to basically be forced into a relationship, especially as Masato still acknowledges that Asahi is straight and he's trying to change his mind.

Masato longs for love, but due to his own past heartbreak, ends up breaking other couples up rather than letting them or himself find any happiness. At least that is until he needs a place to stay and his friend Naru offers his other apartment.... with a catch. Masato will be sharing it with Naru's other friend (who happens to be straight and in many ways also still recovering from his own divorce while Masto is gay). Even if they can't stand each other, it seems Asahi has a way of understanding Masato and his emotions that no one else has managed to this point.

Wow, we get a lot of back story between Bran and Leah here even though it's more about Leah's past and Anna getting caught up in everything again. Turns out music can be both dangerous and a safety depending on how you use it. The ending also is rather cryptic and unsettling, hinting that Coyote himself is related to the Singer, and by that token, Mercy would be as well. He also references many walkers, which leads to wondering if all are tied back to the Singer in the same way or if they truly are their own separate creatures with some similarities in how their lines continue? As usual, things mostly work out in the end, with a lot of questions and potential left hanging to lead into the next installment - from either side of this series. Even Samuel's brief reappearance leans towards more questions and hints and more adventure (or trouble depending on how you look at it) down the road.

The New Mutants

The New Mutants (2020)

Can't say this was the best of the X-Men franchise films, especially considering how many times the production was delayed or redone. There's no back story, so unless you know these characters from the original comics, good luck trying to recognize anyone. For example, at no point is there any reference where you might pick up that Illyana is the younger sister of Colossus from the X-Men. She also comes across a lot more mixed up and caustic than in the older comics. Don't recall a love interest between Rahne or Dani either, and it feels like a bit of an after thought just to force some sort of close tie in for why they'd trust each other, even after it becomes obvious Dani is the source of all these nightmares coming to life. There's also no resolution to the movie. They're free of the "cage" now, but is the nearest town really as far as Dr. Reyes claims? Do they stay together? Try to find the remnants of their families for those who have survivors? Overall, leaves a lot left to be desired.

K's Secret

The art is beautiful, but the story leaves some questionable ideas when it comes to consent and rape culture. Doyoon may be a half vampire, but he sure seems to have several people obsessed with him. Kangwoo is largely about doing what he wants, when he wants it, even when that effects other people. Even when he takes the gamble with Nux's blood, it's fueled by his desire to keep Doyoon with him more than anything else, similar to Jooyoung. Even Seo and Nux have unhealthy obsessions, though they seem to be focused on Jooyoung rather than Doyoon, and only care about the half vampire in relation to using him as a bartering piece with Jooyoung.

Blood Bank

One is not your average human, and once the story really starts moving, there are several clues as to why that is long before it actually comes out in the story. For someone who seems to argue with themselves so much over running away and trying to stop, they end up choosing a rather significant role in saving the peace and finding a new way forward between both humans and vampires. The story is still left a little open ended though with the climate issues brought out at least among some of the vampires, yet Shell doesn't seem to mind the increased discomfort or danger for his own version of a happy ending. The last few chapters may be faster paced and pack a lot of information and learning, but it makes up rather significantly for the early awkwardness and demanding as the initial meeting and relationship begin between Shell and One.

The story starts off a little rough with Aya constantly referencing his "predisposition" and getting into trouble with other classmates. Eventually it makes sense what he's talking about, but until then he just seems like a trouble magnet. Turns out, maybe this particular attention is a good things. The story itself has potential, however, the text is rather disjointed and there are a lot of repetitive panels it seems when it comes to all the fighting and chasing scenes. It's also very short, so it's left feeling like a cliffhanger at the end.

It looks like this will be a spin on a time travel tale, only this time the main character knows how the story is supposed to end. The question will be if they try to change it along the way or not. It's still very early days for this story, so it's hard to say how much potential it has just yet. Right off the bat, it could swing either way eventually, but it still in a gray area where it's repetitive and not exactly catching just yet.

The series is cute and has some really funny moments, though it's also a bit out there. It's hard to believe that for as brash as Manager Kang supposedly is, he's actually so meek when he's with Sunwoo, mostly just going along with things and rarely standing his ground. It's not so surprising, then, that he has a bad history with Mr. Cha. Sunwoo is another study in opposites where he's apparently such a screw up at work, but somehow keeps hitting all the right notes once they get over the first bit of awkwardness and into the real relationship.

Ji-won is very naïve while also being oddly forward at the same time. It's not much surprise then that Hyun doesn't seem to know what to do about him. Oddly though, he seems to grow on him to the point that it would almost seem strange for the two not to continue to gravitate towards each other. The series is still on-going, so expect some fireworks with Kangjoon, especially if his secret ever comes out. Honestly wasn't too much of a surprise given his reactions to Ji-won and the way he's constantly feeding him while not eating anything himself.

This series is still on-going, so it's a little strange to mark it as "read", but until there is a new update, it is current and there aren't any other listings than the one for the series. The story itself is cute if not basically a BL adaptation of the tried and true vampire romance. The characters each have their own quirks that make them entertaining, as well as how they react to each other. There are times when some of the naivety in certain characters can be a little bewildering or exasperating, but overall the story has a good flow and is enjoyable.

Ryouma has been traveling for filming for 2 weeks following Izumi's initial declaration at the end of the TV series, so of course when he gets back to Tokyo, he wants some time with Izumi. Izumi lets his nerves get the better of him and ends up insisting on his brother and Rei joining them on their date. Once again, communication is a downfall, though they eventually figure things out. Rei pulls a rather interesting line between guardian, educator, and in some cases, enabler, when it comes to Izumi and his growth.

Izumi comes from a family of entertainers, so it's expected he'd be in the business somewhere as well, especially after being pulled into commercials with his parents as a very young child. Unknown to him, that sparks another interest that will change his life when a sequel to that very commercial is proposed.... and his own addiction to Lala-Lulu will be his downfall. Izumi has a lot of learning and discovering to do in this series, and while sometimes it's both hilarious and painful, it's also enjoyable the way it's portrayed.

While the TV series is mostly about Mafuyu and Ritsuka, the movie focuses more on Akihiko and Haruki. The events do directly follow the TV series, so it's best to watch that first to have a better foundation for what the characters are talking about and what is happening, though there are some references and short flashbacks to help fill in some of the gaps. Unsure if there may ever be more in the anime realm for this series, and the manga would be missing the actual music you can hear, but it may still be worth diving into the series to see what else may be in store for these characters.

This has been on my to-watch list for awhile. I'm glad I finally watched it, but it was so enjoyable with the music and relatable characters that I'm now stuck wanting more. The TV series focuses mostly on Mafuyu, and his growth as he learns about music and learns to move on from the trauma in his past. A large part of that growth comes from his growing relationship with Ritsuka, who he latches onto rather early on.

"It's stuck deep inside me and I can't get it out of my head. Mafuyu's voice is an insane and dangerous weapon." That day, Ritsuka Uenoyama started to feel that playing the guitar and playing basketball, both of which he liked very much, were becoming boring. He then encounters Mafuyu Sato, who's holding onto a broken guitar, and decides to fix it. The moment Uenoyama finishes fixing the guitar, Mafuyu becomes completely attached to him. However, after hearing Mafuyu sing it leaves a deep impression on him. - IMDB

The story has potential to start off with, but the characters are very inconsistent, making it fall short in the end. 

In a city known as No.6, an elite student named Shion saves a young boy called Rat, who happens to be an escapee from the local prison. After being reunited with Rat years later, the two begin to uncover the dirty secrets of the 'ideal city' No.6 while discovering more about themselves and their love for each other along the way. - IMDB

Really though, it's hard to tell if Shion actually loves Rat or is more attached to Safu, who it seems to be assumed he'll end up with through most of his life. Safu and Rat both have their own unique ties to Shion in turn, making it a rather awkward triangle as Shion learns some harsh truths about the real world. 

Baby, Punk Kid

The art is nice, but the story lacks a lot of detail and coherency. The text is choppy and disjointed, and the characters rarely seem to be pleased with anything. With the exception of when Harim is dragging Seo around on their makeshift dates (though they don't call them that originally), everything is belittling, fighting, and corporate troubles. Seo finds a way to make things work, but it is basically stated that it only works because he is an Alpha rather than a Beta or an Omega, which just makes the rest of the struggles and the overall equality even worse.

Honestly, this lost points going into oddity areas when it introduced the main character as a Bl@ster fighter - because of course we must use special symbols for street fighting names rather than normal letters. Akira has a very lackluster attitude that makes him a prime target for the military's plans, and leaves him mostly at the whim of everything happening around him. It's until nearly the end when things begin to make more sense with Shiki and Nicole's back stories that he really takes an interest in being an active part of his own story. Even after learning some hard lessons, he seems fairly keen to go back for more, even though Igura means death for most.

Apparently being a "monkey" is a bad thing and it's considered stronger and more higher class to be a "zooman". Catch being there are instincts and pheromones that go along with these species, making certain matches more appealing and/or advantageous. Odd way to set up a society of match making, especially for the bears' story. The ending seems to hint at the pairs that are focused on coming together for a general happily ever after type conclusion even if some obviously have farther to go coming together than others. Unsure if that's truly how the story ends or not since OVA in general are much shorter and don't usually provide the full picture.

Dee is more than a little desperate to get Ryo to himself for a vacation. It backfires in every way possible when their work follows them on vacation... then their co-workers.... even putting Ryo's own life on the line. In the end, there is no resolution as far as their relationship goes, but they do gain a new Commissioner at work - one that Dee is mostly likely rather unpleased with.

As an OVA, this is only 2 episodes, so it's very short. It has the feel of a slowly built relationship over time, but also slightly forced as the friends apparently have mixed ideas of how to protect each other, but also can't stand to be apart at the same time. Could have potential, but is still left hanging for how short it is as an OVA.

Hybrid Child

This is originally by the same author as Junjou Romantica, and it does show in the art style, especially if you look at the original manga for both series. The first 2 episodes focus on different Hybrids and their owners. The last 2 episodes are basically about how the Hybrid Child was created and the first one was made literally in the image of the creator's lost friend. It ties in the other families as well with the back story if you recognize the characters, but it doesn't give much in the way of how the Hybrids continue to grow with their families. With how many were in the house in the first episode, might think there were a lot more out there somewhere. But if the prototype stays with Kuroda, and the first model is with Kotaro, would that imply that the second model is Yuzu with Seya to round out the family trio? It does also question that if the families are supposed to be the same 3, does that mean Kotaro is somehow related to Tsukishima, or is his legacy solely in the completion of the Hybrid Children and Kotaro just happened to be stubborn and entitled enough to keep Hazuki when he finds him?

Honestly, it took me awhile to realize that "AV" was referring to "Adult Video" in the series lingo where I'm used to "audio visual" from work. Besides that, the overall story is sadly lacking and the conclusion is non-existent. It's left hanging rather awkwardly, which almost makes me want to dig into the manga for an answer, but not sure I really want to know that badly either. Iwaki is nearly impossible to really get a read on, while Katou comes across as this odd mix of overly confident and childish at the same time. Not the most endearing mix.

Also known by the title Hitorijime My Hero. This is fairly mild as far as BL series go. At least Asaya and Kensuke are the same age, though Masahiro is also in their class, while Kousuke (Kensuke's older brother) is one of the teachers at their school. The student/teacher trope is a little too common it seams. Masahiro nearly implodes and falls back into bad places a few times, but fortunately his secondary family with these friends of his keeps his head above the water. Unfortunately, his mother is seen extremely little, and what is seen of her is nothing to be impressed by. Turns out, maybe one doesn't have to be a hero to save someone else.... and maybe it's still okay to have your own personal someone that you consider your hero.

The story is still just as messed up as the Remake version. The only difference is that it's a bit more fast paced and doesn't leave it hanging on the same note. Riki does admit to Guy where he's been the last 3 years, severing his ties with Bison.... or so he thinks until Guy goes a little crazy over everything. It seems Kirie also earns his rewards for his obsession despite Riki's warnings to steer clear. Iason, for all that he's rather twisted, does apparently care about Riki, and somewhere along the line despite hating what he became, Riki cares about Iason as well. Guy also pays a hard price for that realization.

Riki seems to learn a hard lesson in being grateful for what he has as he chases what is portrayed as the "high life" of a Pet to the Blondies of Eos. Come to find out, it's a glorified cage that he's non-to-pleased with. This remake leaves everything hanging as Riki is struggling to come to terms with his memories as a Pet while being back in the Slums. Iason, the Blondie who had previously owned and released Riki, had also indicated in an earlier episode that he intended to get Riki back after a year of freedom, and this appears to end at roughly the half year mark. Oddly, the workers who apparently take care of the Pets for the Blondies are referred to as Furniture. The terminology is beyond strange and the few things that can be sorted out seem very skewed as far as a healthy society view or action.

Honestly, I couldn't even finish the first episode of this for how blatantly it sexualized everything and was so degrading. Can't remember where the recommendation came from to watch it, but unlikely to ever finish the first episode, let alone the rest of the series.

WandaVision

This takes place after the events of Endgame when everyone is returned from the "blip". If you don't pay attention, you might not catch the references to Captain Marvel, especially as she's only really had one major film in the series so far and small cameos otherwise. Wanda has never really been very sure of herself, especially when it comes to her power. After everything she's survived, it's a small wonder she clings to her little bubble of peace as hard as she does, even though her denial is ultimately hurting a lot of other people around her. As usual, once faced with undeniable truth of her reality, her assessment and actions change. There are a lot of laughs in this series though for all that it stems from such emotional pain, as it's formatted like an old sitcom. Older fans may recognize the old spandex costumes for the Scarlet Witch, Vision, and Quicksilver in the Halloween episode. Ultimately though, Wanda has to come to some hard realizations and learn to own her power a bit more, finally earning her title as the Scarlet Witch (and a fairly fantastic modern rendition of her traditional costume to go with it).

The Falcon & the Winter Soldier

This picks up just after Endgame when Captain America has chosen a different life and passed his shield onto Sam, aka The Falcon. He has some hard choices ahead of him, and ends up butting heads with Bucky (previously the Winter Soldier) about as often as they end up working together. They make an odd team, with the lingering ghost of Steve lingering between them. Takes awhile to sort things out, especially with a new Super Soldier serum in the mix and a "new Captain America" who does not live up to the name.... until the successor Steve meant to take up his mantel is ready to take on the world in his own way.

While the game play is somewhat accurate, it has to do more with the timing of delivery food items or cleaning rooms and general check in. There does not seem to be a difference in the rooms, at least not in the early game, as far as where someone should or should not be checked in. The only change is just when items are upgraded for service and cost that can be earned in that level for the next upgrade. Gives it some difference than the common puzzle games but also keeps it different at the same time. Not too terribly engaging though, so don't expect to stick with it long term.

Perhaps one of the better perks to this app is that it's the same as the game that comes pre-installed in any Windows computer. If you log in on both platforms, it saves your game scores and challenge counts across devices, which is a nice bonus. Also means you have access on any devices, at home or on the go, to the same card games at any time.

This is basically just your classic Mahjong game adapted for touch screen play. There are still some adds, but usually not as bad as some of the other freemium games out there. Several different puzzle forms and sizes to play through, which gives a nice variety to a fairly standard matching game.

This is another game that varies from what is advertised significantly. The ads would have you believe that the mini-games make up the game play. However, these mini-games are only available at random after several standard blast levels are beaten, similar to other games like Project Makeover or Homescapes. Unlike these other blast games, though, you are earning coins not just to be able to buy power ups, but also to buy the actual fish and decorations you want in your aquarium. Not so much the earning stars to complete a task and select an option type style.

This is another one that is similar to Block: Hexa Puzzles where you have a shape you have to be able to solve the puzzle for. Not all of them are animals or item shapes like the images show though. Some will resemble smiley faces or other random things (if you can make sense of the alternating color blocks to identify the image). There is also not a really great way to navigate back to the menu or switch puzzle tracks once you select one of the games.

This is similar in many ways to Block: Hexa Puzzles if you're playing the challenge course. There's always some sort of obstacle combined with not running out of room on the board to beat each level. Adds variety to the puzzles, but can also be frustrating if all you want is a good puzzle and it throws the harder challenges at you instead.

Eventually, even if it's enjoyable, the novelty somewhat wears off and it's just a way to pass a minute of boredom.

It would honestly be a lot more engaging to stick to the XP level battles instead.

The ads for this game are very misleading, and the actual game play is a lot more similar to other connect three or blast type games such as Homescapes or Frozen: Free Fall. The options are very limited (0-3 per option) and the levels are not very friendly unless you want to pay for boosters to wade through the story line. Not the most engaging of this type of design game I've come across so far.

While this models the standard Tetris, the default appears to be a timed game that ends rather abruptly. The screen is also not the most responsive for the standard mode, so don't be surprised if the blocks don't lock where you thought you were trying to put them. Can make the game a little aggravating. Probably would work better on consoles with actually controllers attached rather than touch screen.

This was both predictable and also very strange when it comes to sequels. Almost tried to mix in an old school comic type of story line with the freeze frame text. Everything is narrated additionally with diaries and journals, especially from Guy and Eep. The Bettermans are very easy to hate despite trying to come off as overly friendly, which is not helped even by their name. Their entire setup is basically too ideal and superficial, which is why it falls apart so easily. Of course it wouldn't be your usual family friendly movie if it didn't end up with some sort of happy ending, just with a lot of strange twists along the way.

Joe is a bit selfish and narrow minded in his pursuit to make his own dream come true. He's rather obsessive about it actually. Fortunately, his quest will put a lot of other experiences in his path and force him to see (in some ways literally) through another's eyes. It's perhaps the best thing that could happen to him as he goes on the run with 22 before ultimately being the only one who can save them. The story may not be all that thrilling or the most engaging, but there are a lot of little real life gems thrown in if you're paying attention.

This one is intense. There is a lot of alluding to past events, especially in Eve's history and even the case file with Homeland. If you haven't read the series in order, or happened to miss those books, you might not catch some of the references. The good times are a lot more subtle overall in this book, though we do get a fairly big dose of good early in the book with Eve's extended friends and family. We also see Roarke staying heavily involved going straight from the Cobbe case in the last book to this one. It's a really good thing Roarke decided to go into safe housing and rehab, because those facilities are going to be getting put through their paces at capacity after this last take down, and Roarke's proven he has an eye for the best.

There's a little bit of a magic and a whole lot of trust in this Disney story. Raya had to learn hard and fast why she shouldn't trust everyone, even someone who claims to be a friend. Sisu, the last dragon who isn't stone after the last battle with the Druun, has to teach her why it's so important to still trust other people even after that if they want to save the world. Not an easy task between the Druun turning everyone into stone and the different lands all vying for the last power of the crystal to keep their little pockets of the world as safe as possible. Raya ends up collecting a rather odd group of friends in her quest to restore the world and save her father. Lucky for her, those are exactly the kind of bonds needed when it comes to learning to trust again, and maybe even having a chance for restoring the separate lands into one - her father's long ago dream before the Druun once again ran free.

Diana has to make some hard choices as she comes up against what her purpose in life really is and how her desires weigh into the cost not just for herself, but for the rest of the world, too. She'll have to convince not just Maxwell Lord and Cheetah, who help set everything in motion, but the rest of the world to put everything back to rights. Don't stop watching when the credits roll though, or you'll miss another easter egg from the Amazons. Though this comes out later in the series following the release order, it actually fits much earlier in the series if you're watching chronologically.

This one really brought the whole family together, all the way back to Ireland. Eve's newest case runs them up against an old self-proclaimed rival of Roarke's who wants the sole claim to Patrick Roarke's name and legacy. Problem being, he can't have that so long as Roarke himself still lives. It becomes pretty obvious real quick just how much a part of the NYPSD family Roarke has become when he finds just how far Eve's entire team is, including EDD and Captain Whitney himself, to back up their family and protect both him, and his real Ireland roots. It's almost sad Cobbe would delude himself into thinking he's the better man and could ever truly stand a chance against Roarke and Eve and the family that has has their backs.

A little slow to get going, but once you get to know Ethan and Selenka a bit, you can't help but hope everything works out. Ethan's final designation is a bit of a surprise, but also makes sense when you think about all the small things he picks up on when meeting Selenka's pack for the first time, let alone how seamlessly he fits in. Most Arrows, while respected for being "dominant" are a lot more socially awkward. Definitely some parallels with Ethan and Memory and their histories.

Riiko finally makes up her mind only to have a host of problems due to Night's earlier malfunction and the Kronos company. It seems like they finally will have their happily ever after (which is still a little strange with Night being a figure), but not. Night's talk with Soshi makes a lot more sense, as well as why Riiko can't find his ring in the end. Rather bittersweet after a very messy ride.

For being a secret, a lot of people sure seem to be figuring out the truth about Night. Their "retrieval program" is anything but subtle, too. Riiko is finally figuring things out, with Soshi continually leading her to admitting everything. For not liking Night, he still does try to protect him, though likely really just for Riiko's sake. Can't say Kronos is all that impressive though. If anything, they just seem to cause more problems.

This new guy coming into the picture and declaring himself Riiko's lover and his methods of convincing her are beyond questionable. The big fight between the figurines is kind of funny, but would also imagine very stressful with everything getting broken (including the actual figurines). Soshi figuring everything out is kind of a relief and kind of horrible all at the same time given the "terms" (even if they keep changing) of Riiko's contract.  Miniature Night is adorable, but he's right when he summarizes Soshi's new plan as putting him at a disadvantage with his new size while he waits for his usual body to be repaired.

Not entirely sure how kidnapping is supposed to be romantic. Honestly, the art is cute, but the story leaves a whole lot of questions that can be rather unnerving when you think about them. Really can't blame Soshi for being so suspicious the way things keep unraveling. He does have the real benefit of truly being human, too. Night may mean well, and is like an over-eager puppy in a lot of ways, but he's still a machine at the end of the day.

Things get even more complicated when Night wants to follow Riiko to school, except Riiko is terrified of anyone finding out he's her boyfriend. Soshi knows though, and he doesn't exactly seem all too thrilled about it. Night's new school fanclub would go crazy over it, too, which is certainly not helping matters. Meanwhile, Night is a natural and completely oblivious flirt when it comes to interacting with the other students. He stands out a bit too much.

I have vague memories of watching this with my mom as a child. Kind of surprised she'd be okay with all of the adult themes, death, blood, etc, though it is in a rather tame and contained manner for the most part. The series focuses more on the hospital staff rather than the patients they see and medical conditions they encounter like House. For the most part, after all the other high intensity or action series we follow, this feels a little flat.

I first read this sometime back in college and remember thinking it was cute if not a little strange. Riiko is very naïve, so much so that one might question why she's left home alone with a living allowance in the first place, and apparently the neighbor boys, who are also living on their own, are asked to check in on her. She's painfully awkward and seems to just stumble through everything as it comes, resulting in a rather hilarious situation where she "owns" her boyfriend (who is actually a machine and not really human). Not that you'd know it by looking at him other than some strange behaviors... like constantly wanting to take his clothes off.

Earth is dying and people are evacuating to "New Earth". Noah stows away onboard as a junior mechanic, hoping to start a new life with Hayley and the baby they're expecting... assuming the admiral doesn't kill him for knocking up his daughter first. Turns out, that's not the worst thing they'll have to survive. When crew members start turning up dead, they discover Noah wasn't the only stowaway, and this one is set on using the entire ship as a weapon. Clay sends Noah and Hayley off in an escape shuttle, hoping they make it to New Earth... except it appears the aliens are already there, too. There is no real ending to this movie, since they escape one life or death fight just to be thrown headfirst into another one. That's not to forget they've got a baby on the way, and just how do you expect to keep an infant quiet if you're trying to sneak by killer aliens to survive?

I'm probably not watching these in the right order, so it feels a bit piecemeal. Most of these episodes tell the backstories of the different kings and how their clans form. Towards the end, things get a little confusing trying to figure out what is real and what is part of a dream world. The very last episode is just the characters playing around and having fun pretending they are competing idol groups rather than deadly kings. Some characters are more interesting than others, but on a whole it's a bit hard to track all the different groups and what is actually going on.

The idea of it is interesting, but in reality unless you want to pay for bonuses, you'll spend more time watching ads to try and clear the board than you will actually finding any matches. Especially if you want any of the bombs since those take 2 adds to even get 1 bonus. Ends up being too aggravating and will end up being uninstalled shortly after trying.

Don't start with this one out of this series; you'll end up rather confused if you do. It does show first hand when a "king" wakes up and how the clansmen recognize that awakening, but the rest is a rather odd jumble of confusion. Sector 4 is portrayed as a type of police force at first, but then apparently serves the blue king who killed another king? They're trying to find the silver king, but get the new red king instead? Why is the silver king missing? Why was the other king killed and who was he? Why does it seem like there's a lot of history between some of these swordsmen, and yet also feels like they're talking in riddles? Definitely a series I think you need to start from the beginning to have any hope of unraveling. Otherwise it's interesting in an observing something different with decent art sort of way, but difficult to appreciate any real storyline.

Honestly unless you're doing one of the special award challenges where the cars are so small you might accidently hit the wrong one trying to move them, they're rather easy so long as you pay attention to the openings and any pedestrian's walking patterns. The building quest is also very linear and uninteresting. It decent as far as something mindless to kill some time, but not anything too thrilling or challenging.

This is a cute story and the art is well done. Has a little bit of a fairy tale twist, including a jealous would-be ex. There are highs and lows, as with any story, and it can get a little dark at times, but the ending is sweet. It took far too long, but eventually, they all figure everything out.

This piece is both heartwarming and a little sad. Further proof of just how human angels can still be with their emotions. For all that Illium may be one of the most powerful beings in the city, and his colors may be rather distinctive, he still has a very pure heart in many ways and connects with the humans around him on a much deeper level than many of the other immortals we see. Small wonder then, how easily he's able to play with Elena and get her to smile, becoming a fast friend even when she's still terrified of most of the others.

This is just beyond adorable and helps to highlight kids can and should be kids, regardless of if they are changeling or psy in this series. Marlee and Ben are the best of friends, and it's adorable how they stick together. We even get to see a bit of Jude's softer side that is often harder to spot with his Arrow background.

Kaleb is in many ways still very socially awkward. However, he then turns around and does something that proves why Sahara loves him so much and that yes, he is a decent person even if he is scary powerful and sometimes rather dark. Kaleb may still be figuring out what it means to have friends, and even extended family in this case, but he seems to be doing fairly well all things considered.

This is a sweet little piece that takes us back to the beginning of the Psy-Changeling series with Tamsyn and Nathan, showing how they grew not just from coming together as a couple, but to when they were both ready to expand their little family and ultimately had the twins. It's a quick read released for free via the author's newsletter, but it's still enjoyable and will bring out a smile.

The race is cute, but Zara's little private pep talks don't seem to be helping her any. Does make one wonder just how fast she is though or how far back Tanner was holding Star in that race to keep her from spooking with Zara's wildcat scent. The cliff hanger on this one is huge. Good thing a Part 3 has already been promised, though who knows when it will arrive.

The first bit is a little light banter and ribbing between friends. Then we get to the start of the "farm experience" complete with cow patties and I couldn't stop laughing. How many times have I seen similar expressions on my city friend's faces when they want to go riding and inevitable find a manure pile in the pasture? It's a real thing - happens all the time - and anyone who spends even a smidge of time on a farm that's more used to it hopefully finds the humor in it so it doesn't drive them batty. Tanner sure seems to be amused so far. Looking forward to the next installment.
