Stone Soup by Jon J. Muth

Stone soup certainly sounds strange, and maybe not all that appetizing, until you realize it's just the start to open the door of curiosity and draw out the villagers. One by one as they join in and are willing to share, the soup gets better and better until there is a feast fit for the entire town and they realize they are much richer together than hoarding their own small bits all to themselves.
