Kira is determined to be independent, especially after the excessive protection forced on her by her father and brother. Despite this, she's drawn very quickly to fellow runner, Ford, after dog-sitting for her brother drags the two into a murder investigation and series of harrowing events. Of course despite taking place mostly over the course of the summer, it wouldn't be complete without her brother's wedding and her own engagement at the end. It's more than obvious that's where the duo is heading, assuming they survive everything that has been happening to Kira since the river. It isn't until the very end that the mystery of the target painted on Kira is ever really solved, leaving a constant question of if she'll ever really be safe again.
