The Ayakashi Hunter's Tainted Bride 7 by Midori Yuma

The captains can be rather intimidating, but seem to mean well enough. Not too surprising that when the dust settles, everyone seems to adore Nanao, though it now seems like there's hinting at some purpose or need in her abnormally large amount of spirit power. Everyone seems to be trying to do the right thing aside from Takei and Yako's mother as far as we currently know, though Yako's mother seems to suffer under delusions not entirely dissimilar from Akemi and Shinobu. Why are there so many crazy women in this series? The sane ones at least all seem to agree that it would be nice if Yako and Nanao could enjoy their new happiness together.

Of course things wouldn't be that simple with the orangutan, and now we may have tengu involved while even more people are interested in Nanao, and possibly not in a good way. It started off so peacefully once the attack was dealt with, and we even see Yako's brother finally making some decisions for himself, but that doesn't last for long. Just what will this investigation uncover and what does this spirit power reading mean? Why is Nanao's seal acting up? So many questions and still very few answers, though it seems even Nanao is wishing she could remember more at this point, especially if it would mean she wasn't always so vulnerable.

Shinobu continues to be a challenge, but it seems the rest of her family does not share her opinion, especially after Nanao unexpectedly makes friends with her grandmother. Yako isn't too pleased with her manipulations either, though it seems his brother isn't nearly as bad as he comes across in the previous volume. Now Nanao is in more danger than ever, though this set up could work to her advantage if Yako makes it time given the answer to removing her spirit seal from the doctor's office. Hopefully the next volume will turn the tides back in her favor even more.

Nanao proves she is healing and doing better yet again when we meet Yako's brother and mother, who seem to have very different opinions than Yako and his father do. Even this Shinobu Saionji appears to be trouble of a different variety, though perhaps not that different from Akemi when it comes to entitlement and not caring about other's opinions or points of view. She doesn't seem to care much for ayakashi either, which matches with Yako's mother and brother when they appear, but does not align with the rest of their family, and is a far cry from how well Nanao has fit into the household. Hopefully they will weather this new storm just as well.

The first time I read this, the ebook pages were all out of order, so the story was very disjointed, but it was still possible to piece together the events. Re-reading it in proper order now is much better and flows easily. It's interesting how those who are truly the ones to watch out for can be seen not just in how they speak, but the way they are drawn as they look far more crazed than the normal characters. In contrast, Nanao most often looks bewildered or innocent and gentle. While many questions have been answered and Nanao finally has some support and self confidence, it seems their struggles aren't over yet. Perhaps it's a good thing Yako is so protective, though it's also rather sweet, especially considering the way Nanao was treated previously and given he doesn't try to hold her back or belittle her.

The next volume doesn't disappoint following the first. Akemi seems to have a superiority complex, but it seems at least some others in Nanao's home village have learned a few things since her abrupt departure. For all of the rumors, Yako does seem to care for Nanao and the two of them make a good match. It will take time for old wounds to heal, but the main pairing seem to be well matched and comfortable with each other at least. It will be interesting if we see Yako manage to find the orangutan in the future, but at least the hair pin has now been explained and delt with. Yako may have some more explaining to do with the wedding plans as well.

The Ayakashi Hunter's Tainted Bride 1 by Midori Yuma

A friend of mine recommended this as being similar to My Happy Marriage, but with a much faster pace. Given this is one of my favorite series, of course I was curious and borrowed her first volume during a visit. It was a very quick read and highly enjoyable. The premise is sad with many of the characters facing unique challenges and Nanao's cousin who seems to be far more cruel and cunning than anyone seems to think or be aware of at the moment. Reito seems to be a case of far little far too late, but also of the mind to do something - hopefully not something that backfires horribly on everyone. It truly is amazing that Nanao survived as long as she did in those conditions. Interested to see how things unfold in her new home.
