Black Dagger Legacy 4: Blood Truth by J.R. Ward
My rating: 2 of 5 stars
It was a rough start to get off the ground with this one, but there are a lot of full circles in the story this time around. We get a bit more of Syn's story as well, though he's not the main focus overall. Wrath even gets more page time than usual with the more uncommon investigation into deaths not as a result of the war. The relationship highlight is a old tried and true recipe for this series though with the pair meeting, some stupidity and miscommunication, and eventually your happy ending. Still have a few more characters to work through in the current line up though, let alone if more are added along the way.

Black Dagger Legacy 3: Blood Fury

It's expected in this series to see a main new pair, though that started to deviate with stories like The King and The Beast. This one gives us two stories and really should be read in order of release even if Legacy is sort of a side story to the main series. Everything that happens in Legacy, at least so far, as built on and continued the story from the main Brotherhood saga. Unfortunately, I stuck to the main series first and read The Thief. There wasn't anything huge that stuck out, but a few things happened or mentioned here and there that make a lot more sense after reading Blood Fury, especially with Rhun. This is arguably both Peyton/Novo's and Saxton/Rhun's story at the same time. We also get a short snippet featuring George because.... "that dog." I'd say Saxton response to finding Rhun seems out of character, except that it's been detailed very much as in character for his species, even if he's not normally a fighter. Definitely eases things up on the home front, especially with Blaylocke. Overall, I enjoyed the story, and Peyton certainly keeps things entertaining with his wise cracks, but I wouldn't say it was a favorite either.

Black Dagger Legacy 2: Blood Vow

This series seems a little more mild than the original while still being in the same vein. The real pairing here is Elise and Axe with a huge side dose of Bitty's story when her uncle, Rhun, comes looking for her. Rhage and Mary don't have an easy time of things, but it would seem everything works out for the best. Peyton even seems to be wising up a bit, which could be very good for Novo depending on how things work out there. At least might cut some of the tension with Paradise of nothing else.

Black Dagger Legacy 1: Blood Kiss

From the description of the series, I expected the books to focus more on the actual Brotherhood, kind of like The King went back to Wrath and Beth even though it brought in a lot of info about Wrath's parents too. Instead, it focuses on other relationships within the training center while the Brothers teach, inevitably bringing out more of their day-to-day lives beyond just hearings and fighting. If this book is really "about" anyone, it's Paradise. It will be interesting to see how this series dove tails (or doesn't) with the original series that is still on-going, especially since all of these characters are still very prominent there as well. It might start to feel like you're missing big gaps of info if you only read one of the two series overall.
