The Star Seekers 6 by HYBE

The ending is a bit anticlimactic, which is why the slightly lower rating than the rest of the series. Though more casualties are paid, the boys are able to learn enough to at least put up a fight against the Dragon of the End, though it's really Viken who discovers the key at the last minute. Even with all of the preparations and discussions in advance, Soule is desperate enough to take the last step he's been warned against. While the boys seem to have succeeded, there were enough warnings about possible choices, especially for Soule summoning the singer, that it's hard to believe it's truly a "happily ever after." What about the costs they were warned about? How long until they take effect if they will or did their change in tactics somehow nullify that cost so it is no longer required? There's also no word on how either the Dragon Slayers or Dragon Sect react to events, though this was everything that they were invested in for so long. It's a bit strange that groups who were so fanatical about the Dragon's arrival completely miss it. It's sweet that they boys continue to stick together and honestly have tried to do their best all along, but there are so many gaps at the end that it's hard to really see it as an end.

The Star Seekers 5

The Dragon Sect is showing their true colors, and it's more than a little frightening. The boys now know the effects of the potions as well, which is concerning. Just when things are looking up with the Dragon Slayer Clan and Lote, the cat steps in again. Not sure what is up exactly with the cat or who her "master" is, but clearly is more trouble and seems to be the catalyst for Soule's most recent vision. Lote has reinforcements, but it's unclear if they've arrived in time or not. Some small consolation that Soule was able to at least eventually tell that the one goading them and attacking is not actually his mother - a small relief given the still tense relationship from past events and trying to mend those bridges. We know who DK is working for now, though working for seems a little extreme given his limit to "eyes and ears" and his careful maneuvers to not influence the boys directly if it can be avoided. Beyond that, seems to be a lot of chaos we'll be starting the next volume in the middle of.

Things are coming to a head now after 3 attacks from the Dragon Slayer Clan with the boys interfering in their plans. The boys have a few answers, but are still missing a lot of the pieces to the puzzle. At least they now understand some part of what Soule is seeing and are able to attempt to plan in advance. Unfortunately, with that missing information, there's still a lot at risk. Still a lot of questions regarding the effects of using this black water and slightly concerned over the boy's new reliance on these potions. DK doesn't seem to know exactly what to make of everything either other than going along with the boy's wishes and trying to protect them as much as he is able to. Banya seems to have calmed down significantly after losing his place as the head of the Dragon Slayers, too, though that doesn't seem to curb just how dangerous his power may be. We see a lot more about other people that are not idols using powers now as well, though most seem to be part of these main groups and very few seem to be part of other smaller groups who have "less information" according to the Dragon Group. The boys don't appear to understand the significance of the Dragon of The End just yet either, which is referred to frequently as the event both of these main groups are watching for, though for very different reasons. Hopefully, they haven't bitten off more than they can chew with their desire to still perform this time despite knowing there would be another attack.

Star One are considered a second tier performance group just because they don't have any magic.... until they do. Now all of the boys except Eugene have manifested their magic, and at much older ages than has ever been seen before. Soule is the first to manifest, and rather spectacularly on live stage fending off an attack, but that just seems to open the flood gates of expectations and more intense training. It's a fast 180 from their agency basically waiting out their contract to drop them to now promoting them as fast and as hard as they can. DK's training is unusual to say the least as well, though at least some of the information he shares appears to be useful. Can't help but feel that there's something going on with the cat, too, though will have to wait and see what exactly. It's interesting as well that the only emphasis on magic appears to be for idols, with no mention of it for other people going about their daily lives. There must be some though, considering there are ones like DK who claims to be a magic trainer. That's not going into this mysterious group that appears to be targeting the boys either and thinks that they have some special role to play.

Dark Moon: The Blood Altar 7

Dardan may have been dealt with in a rather surprising manor, and the teens may have returned to their school life, but that doesn't mean all answers are there. There is also still a lot of animosity between the vampires and werewolves due to their blood rather than just their competitive schools, which isn't surprising given the way they grew up, but is still rather hilarious given the way everyone still fawns over Sooha. Even wolves that have never met her before are making things a tad awkward with all the devotion. At least everyone seems okay with Sooha and Heli, not that anyone seems to be leaving them any time alone since they're always flocking around Sooha. With that being said, who is this new girl that shows up at the end and what does she mean by Sooha taking her place? She looks like the past version of Selen especially with her eye color, but how could everything at the blood altar take place and everyone be drawn to Sooha if she was not actually the princess? Opens a rather large can of worms without any sign of a resolution as this is the last volume in the series.

There's never a dull moment, with constant fights and discoveries as they figure out where the Blood Altar is and recover more of their memories. While the wolves don't have the same memories, Khan at least seems to be piecing some things together with his own visit, just as Sooha and Heli especially seem to be seeing the most of their past memories overall. Dardan continues to be a major thorn and obstacle to everyone's safety, though for as many times as it has seemed like he's had the upper hand, he hasn't actually been able to kill any of the main group yet. Heli has a good point as well, wondering why the symbol on his hand is glowing even after supposedly losing his powers. Given how dire things are, hopefully freeing the wolves will bring the reinforcements needed, especially since Khan should be somewhere in that mix. A little surprised that he wasn't on the altar with Sooha, Dardan, and Marge though we briefly saw him on the altar previously - just where did Khan disappear to?

Oh boy, the cats are all out of the bag now, though it's hard to tell if Sooha only recognizes Heli and his group or if she also recognizes the werewolves in this last encounter. Is Heli's story also correct about the lunar eclipse and werewolf lore? If so, Sooha may have an even more ardent admirer on her hands. How is Chris back from the dead as well? As happy as Sooha is to see him originally, there seems to be something very wrong with this character and his new appearance. Also hints that he may have something to do with the boys, not that they seem to be aware themselves with their history at the orphanage. It's still not clear exactly how or why Sooha is different from other humans, or why all of her new friends are so drawn to her, but from the boy's observations, it seems clear whatever she has is something strong. She seems to have at least calmed down with Heli despite the original panic, though it is yet to be seen how the rest of this encounter will unfold. Lots of cliffhangers to pick up hopefully in the next volume.

I've been eyeing this series for awhile and finally had a chance to pick up the books today. Nearly finished this first volume in the time we were waiting in line at the store, it was that entertaining. Sooha grows up as a bit of an outcast, considered a vampire by the townsfolk though in truth she's a human with an unusual skill. With the loss of her one friend due what appears to be a vampire attack, Sooha firmly believes vampires are the worst creatures out there and hates them with a passion. The last thing she expects when transferring to a new school because of its strict screening for vampires is to find herself with not one friend, but several, all who seem to be a little unusual just like her. The boys are well aware of her hatred for vampires, but this doesn't seem to concern them at the moment. Even the few that originally think they should keep their distance from Sooha quickly end up acting like puppies with her, eager to please and spend time with her. What is it that is making her this oddity to her new friends, and what will it mean for their relationships as they learn more about each other? It will be interesting to find out, especially with the many diverse personalities, powers, and interactions we have here.
