Unlike the first book, this one dives straight in, though it ends up splitting POVs a lot as Justin, Mae and Tess are not always together for a change. Mae is definitely better off with Freya than Loki, though it's easy to see how she'd feel a little disillusioned at the moment. Justin has done a neat job of diving in full force with Odin despite swearing it would never happen. Worst if all is the separation of our dynamic duo. They'very been strongest together and their ties are more obvious than ever, yet Mae is now stationed in the borderlands without Justin. That's a fine mess making her even more vulnerable to outside influence. The focus on Profirio despite his "death" now makes a lot more sense. Unfortunately, he appears to be the type of character you wish had stayed dead. Now we just need confirmation of Lucian's and Profirio's affiliations to know who the big names are in center stage.

The beginning of this book was harder to get into. Mae and Justin are obviously drawn to each other, which makes their constant aggravation and being forced to work together somewhat painful. Mae has managed to escape, but Justin is do immersed in these new powers that it seems like he really is fighting the inevitable, and hurting both of them in the process. I guess it's something to be said that he's managed to only agree to learning and not outright service even after everything that has happened, but it seems like some major hair splitting. Hopefully the next leg of their journey won't be as painful now that both Morrigan and Odin are in the open so to speak. However, that doesn't seem to mean another power won't try to claim Mae. Hopefully it won't be as problematic. Kind of surprising Odin isn't making an outright bid for her as that could help him real in Justin along the way.
