Finally got around to watching this during a redeye flight to Florida when I couldn't sleep. The CGI is well done and the characters are still interesting. We don't see as much of Jake, though he's still one of the main characters, as this largely focuses on his children and how they adapt to their way of the life as they are a bit different from the other Na'vi and their family is now being hunted by other avatars. Some adapt easier than others to their new way of life as they struggle to find a new place and settle in to try and keep their family safe. It's not so easy to stay safe though when their enemy is rather relentless and has some idea at least of where they could possibly go for help.

One of the few science fictions movies in the more recent movie trends that I enjoy again and again. This film takes a unique view on "aliens" and the role of the military as it introduces an entire new world and species to the genre and begs the question just what the golden rule is all about (treat others as you wish to be treated). Jake Sully may have figured it out with some help from Neytiri, but the Colonel failed in taking that lesson to his grave.

In a distant future, humanity discovers the planet 'Alpha Centauri B-4', and for those scientists and astronauts who've traversed the gulf between neighboring suns and arrived on its alien soil know it as 'Pandora'. A world filled with an incredible diversity of beautiful and deadly ammonia-breathing lifeforms. Its also a world that harbors treasures and resources almost beyond price. But just as the original Pandora's Box wrought devastation on those who would use it for their own gain, so too this world may destroy not just the Pandorans home, but ours as well.

Avatar is the story of a wounded ex-marine, thrust unwillingly into an effort to settle and exploit an exotic planet rich in bio-diversity, who eventually crosses over to lead the indigenous race in a battle for survival.
