This one focuses more on Rocket than on Star Lord, though of course he and the rest of the Guardians are there. There's a lot of angst with Gamora and a lot of self discovery in this version. Adam Warlock is introduced and we learn more about all of the Guardians, but most especially, about Rocket. Rocket has always been a bit of an enigma with his lab experiment history and his insistence that he's not a racoon.... up until now. Even Gamora, who can't seem to stand the Guardians aside from her own sister, Nebula, seems to learn a few things in her unexpected adventure with the Guardians and reach some level of understanding with them. It's hard, especially for Quill, to recognize that even though she is Gamora, she is not the Gamora that changed with him in the past.

I guess Guardians of the Galaxy just doesn't do it for me as much when it comes to the Avengers lineup. There are some interesting bits of history, especially for Peter and Rocket, but it just didn't have me wanting the next scene so much. Seemed a little redundant for Peter to finally learn about his heritage and power just to lose it and discover maybe his real family maybe isn't as valuable as his adopted family after all.

Going in to this movie, I wasn't really sure what to expect. There is a lot of humor that is spot on and really enjoyable. Other parts of it leave you wondering what they were thinking using it in the film. Overall the movie is enjoyable though and keeps you entertained. I was surprised at how much I ended up liking Groot by the end of the movie given his rather limited dialogue. Even though Peter Quill is the protagonist, really the most consistent character that was a lot of fun was Rocket (the alien squirrel with an attitude). Interesting twists as the story progresses and a good diversity in the characters. Unsure what I think of the sequel talks, but I suppose it has potential if done right, like most of the Marvel stories given they have so much material to pick from.
