Pinkalicious: 5-Minute Pinkalicious Stories by Victoria Kann

Personally, I find that the stories teach something along the way, but always add a touch of something unbelievable that would otherwise be very relatable to a child that loses a bit of the charm, though for small kids, that bit of unbelievable is probably magic and far more interesting than if it stayed true to something they could recognize and experience themselves. It was a short phase, but for the time that my daughter loved Pinkalicious, she enjoyed this collection. Stories included are:

Pinkalicious: Emeraldalicious

A twig in the park becomes a magical wand, somehow leading Pinkalicious and her brother to an abandoned and neglected park they had forgotten. In the process of learning how their wishes work and making all sorts of odd manner of items from the litter (that always seems to have just the right piece), they turn the wasteland back into an "emeraldalicious" green park again just in time before the magic breaks. Timing is certainly everything in this fantasy story. It had the kids wishing their own wands would be so effective, but we don't see that kind of magic outside some real hard work and planning.

Pinkalicious: Silverlicious

Another school library book, this one from the Pinkalicious series. This time, Pinkalicious gets a little greedy, wanting something silver and shiny specifically from the tooth fairy. To her frustration, she is visited by just about everyone except the tooth fairy, each bringing various gifts in place of the coveted silver coin. The tooth fairy does eventually show up, teaching a rather important lesson in humility and sharing. Perhaps even more apt as we've entered the stage of lost teeth and tooth fairy visits in our own home.

Aqualicious

The Pinkalicuos books appear to be popular at my daughter's school. This is from the same series, though the title is changes slightly as it focuses on a merminnie (miniature mermaid) that Pinkalicious finds at the beach. Being a bigger story book instead of a learning to read installment, it does flush out the story a bit more. Overall, it's still very simple for small children. My daughter loved it, my son didn't pay any attention to it at all, and I didn't either love or hate it, so I rated it as okay for a children's book.

Pinkalicious: Fairy House

This was a library book from my daughter's school. It's a cute story that turns morning dew into a tale about garden fairies. As an early reader book, it's also very simple. Not my type of story, but my 5-year-old daughter loved it. Hard to tell if that was genuinely for the story or because these books appear to be popular in her class. Either way, at least she enjoyed her library book for the week.

Pinkalicious: Pinkie Promise
My rating: 2 of 5 stars
The title doesn't really come into play until the very end of the book when the friends decide that their friendship is more important than an accidentally broken promise with some paint. Sort of cute, and an important overall message, both with friendship being more important than things and with it being important to keep your promises. Not too thrilling as far as any sort of character development or story however. Just a bit of childish fluff you can apply some lessons to.

Pinkalicious: The Royal Tea Party

This was my daughter's second library book she ever brought home from school. It's a new series, but with the unicorn and all the pink on the cover (pink and purple are her favorite colors), it was easy to see why she would have chosen it. It was a pleasant surprise to find the book also featured a little brother who wanted to help with the tea party. This was a fun parallel as baby brother is always wanting to follow sister around and "help" in our house, too. Similarly, the older sister is not always impressed with her little brother's ideas and tries to sort of keep him out of the way before discovering he really did have some good ideas to help with the party after all. My littlest is still too young to really help outside of specific directions yet, but I imagine it won't be long until he starts offering his own ideas and sister will have to learn how to adjust and accept them, just like the girl in this story.
