Christopher Robin

Christopher Robin (2018)

Christopher Robin is all grown up and has moved on with his life. That doesn't mean that the Hundred Acre Woods or it's residents have changed all that much however. Childhood clashes with present when Pooh Bear shows up in Christopher Robin's new home. Starting off on a new adventure leading to rediscovering his own childhood as well as some re-evaluation of his own future, Christopher and his new family and up on a bit of a wild ride chasing these "stuffed animals" through the city. For a live action adaptation that doesn't fall in the original timeline, it's done rather well, true to all the original characters, and rather cute to watch. Being live action however, there are many small adjustments made to the characters and how the Hundred Acre Woods connects to the the rest of the city that are more unique to this story. Not much in the overall tale other than sort of a superficial family plot. Things pick up so to speak, when the animals meet Christopher Robin's daughter for the firs time.

We found this at a resale shop the other day. Wish it had the rest of the series with it as Winnie the Pooh is a favorite in our house and it is a cute way to teach a valuable lesson. This particular story, I'm Really Sorry, is perfect as it is my daughter's common phrase when she knows she did something wrong or is in trouble. It's a cute way to help teach her why it's important to say sorry and just what that phrase really means.

This was a new set of books given to the kids by family members for Christmas. A fitting theme choice as the nursery was originally decorated in Winnie the Pooh and the kids love the cuddly bear. The stories are longer than the "learning to read" sentence books without being too long as the books themselves are only around 10 pages each. The text itself is big and easy to read, making it ideal for small children to read on their own when they get to that stage. A cute collection for a children's library.

This was a hand-me-down that was bought at a library sale years ago. Goes along with the Senses and Feelings Pooh books as far as style, size and printing go. Christopher Robin has lost his alphabet blocks. This simple child's book turns a block hunt into a fun rhyme as the characters look for the blocks in alphabetical order. A nice variation to the typical ABC song and dance found in most books of this type.

Roo and Lumpy go a little overboard with their first Halloween together. Doesn't help that Tigger appears to be driven to make it as spooky as possible and Piglet is still scared himself. Of course Pooh and his insatiable tummy have to sneak into the candy before it's time. Good thing Ms. Kanga was still thinking straight when she got her Halloween preparations done. This group of friends really can work themselves up and go overboard all too quickly. Still, a cute movie that's more humorous than frightening for the holiday - good fit for families.

Winnie the Pooh is an old children's classic. These short films are good entertainment for a short break or an interrupted afternoon when you don't want to be stationary through an entire movie. Their confusion and  mispronunciations border on both cute and aggravating to the older audience. Probably just amusing to small children who are just learning the words themselves - though not very helpful in teaching them the correct word forms.

Naturally, Pooh gets everyone so focused on what they can give everyone else, that they forget their own Christmas lists, especially his own (though he's probably the easiest to think of gifts for with his insatiable hunger for honey). A cute little winter picture on the meaning of giving, the true heart of Christmas.

Another very basic Pooh Bear movie. This time, Christopher Robin has to go to school. Once again, Owl and Rabbit cannot correctly decipher his note, resulting in the troupe going on an "adventure" to find him. In the end, they find a few hidden qualities of their own and ensure that their friend has no plans of ever leaving them.

Sometimes it's the little things that are most important. While it is a good message and thought for both Piglet and his friends to realize how important "the little guy" is, the movie itself is largely reflections on previous events that have happened to the group in which Piglet played a larger role than they had previously realized. Would be nice for a movie to have all new material and not rehash older stories, though I suppose there is some draw to familiarity for the older audiences.

It's amazing what you can learn from children sometimes. Turns out neither the Heffalumps or the more well known residents of the Hundred Acre Woods are to frightening. In reality, they are each a family just concerned about each other and a little frightened of what is unknown. The similarities are made especially striking at the end when both mothers are reunited with their children.

When I think of the classic Winnie the Pooh films that I grew up with, this is what I think of. Heffalumps and Woozles was one of the main nightmare songs I could recall as a child. I also remember thinking how silly it was that Piglet would get caught in the rain like that and Eyore would give Owl a house that turned out to be Piglet's.... or that Piglet would let him. Of course this time around, what struck me first was the fact that the first story sets up nearly the exact story that is in my daughter's large Pooh board book. Overall, this still feels like more of a collection of short stories than a cohesive movie, but it's fond memories and enjoyable for children; that hasn't changed a bit.

When Pooh says he has a "rumbling in his tummy," he isn't kidding. Once again, Eyore is sad over something (his missing tail), Owl is grandstanding (he really can't read half as well as he claims if this adventure is anything to go by), and Tigger is making a mess of things. Most of the adventure involves two aspects: 1) finding Eyore a new tail and 2) "saving" Christopher Robin from the "backson" (Owl's misrepresentation of "back soon"). It is cute film with classic characters and surely would be more entertaining to a younger audience. The sheer disarray isn't as appealing to an older audience.

Cute Christmas book for children, but sadly lacking in any real story development. Makes it feel like it's left hanging for adult readers. Kids seem to enjoy it however, and it makes for a good fun first easy Christmas book.

This is another simple baby board book that brings back basics with some fun Disney characters. Winnie the Pooh and the gang are used in various situations to highlight the meaning of opposites. Extremely simple, my daughter is already recognizing some of the concepts. She's been pulling this one out all day trying to absorb it.

Tigger has some hard lessons to learn about just what family is. Pooh bear and his friends mean well, but end up making a mess of things as they try to cheer Tigger up and give him the family he seems to want. Good thing Christopher Robin shows up at the end and helps iron everything out.

Similar to the Senses book, this is another simple yet descriptive and fun learning book for small children. This is especially true if they like Disney and/or animals. As a bonus, it comes in a board book, so it's much more sturdy for little hands and teeth. Mercy has yet to put it down this morning.

Disney's Winnie the Pooh: Senses by Rachel Smith

This series is rather simple yet also good for small learning children. It describes the location of each sense (two ears, one nose, one tongue, etc) and how that sense works in a fun way that is true to the traditional Disney characters from the series. Seeing as Winnie the Pooh as been a going theme for her nursery, toys and books since the moment we found out we were expecting, this fits right in with many of her goodies.
